Are you for real? Did you even bother to read the 151 build patch fixes?

Before the tracker stopped displaying some of the stuff they completed for 151, there were several bug fixes, one of which if I recall had to do with the netcode, and another solved the memory leaks. Max has also delivered a fix for the lag/hitreg that has been preventing us from playing. On top of that it looks like Charlie fixed some of the sound issues. You have no grounds to complain.

    Looking good.

In short I am loving the progress. Seeing stuff move from state to state, its pretty clear your not having much time off!

I think(hope) it's fairly likely that the patch will wait for/include that (which is done) and also possibly (hopefully) this:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Max is working on properly synchronizing the time between the client and the server to fix "hit registration" issues<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Since that would make a huge difference in terms of testing.

Oh boy! Looks like we might have some highly playable code to test come the weekend.

Don't get too excited guys, could still be several other registration issues.
  • phoenixbbsphoenixbbs Join Date: 2003-02-10 Member: 13379Members, Constellation, NS2 Playtester, Subnautica Playtester
The timing / lag issue affecting the registration of hits probably won't make a whole lot of difference to me at present - my frame rate is so bad the enemy could be anywhere by the time it next paints the screen :-} (i've seen less than 1 (one) fps to 12fps in normal play)

And just where is the "151 build patch fixes" forum?

There is nothing labelled that in any of the forums titles. There isn't even a Bugs fixed labelled forum FFS.
The nearest I can find is a forum called 'NS2 General Discussion' and no 151 patch fixes in there.

I tried a search in the head forum for '151 build patch fixes' and I get told there is a Search error.
The message was "One or all of your search keywords were below 4 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please go back and increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords."

So no help there then. I hope you guys can see just how frustrating it is for the average NS2 customers as we get no where on this.

Why aren't the developers more pro-active in telling the average user how to get things working?

At the moment I don't see any updates to the program which enables it to play.

So just how am I expected to know when its getting fixed, if indeed it does? When the first alpha release of NS2 came out I put down the extreme lack of feedback to its users was maybe due to naive inexperience.

But I was willing to place my money into the venture and though the developers were once more naive and announced totally outrageous launch times I thought I'd give them some slack.

But despite further updates and the launch date going sailing past - myself and others can't even get into the game at all.

It's getting beyond a joke it really is.

And yet, still no developer has thought fit to get back to me or to reply in this thread. More signs of amateurs?

So can I get a simple non-self satisfied smugness reply from a <b>non-Fanboy</b> telling me when my problem is going to get fixed?

Like I said Fanboy, it doesn't tell me anything about my problem.

Why not a simple thread on a forum that lists when the next release is due out and then when that forum thread is updated by an developer, I and everyone subscribing to that gets an email. Not hard to do at all.

If you want to see which bugs have been submitted, go to getsatisfaction. If you want to see what they're issuing for the next patch, look at the progress page. If you want automated e-mails and release date announcements for every patch, get a clue.

Please dial it down a notch. The fact that you are a paying customer does not give you the right to shout at other paying customers. Nor does the fact that you have an issue entitle you to demand that bug reporting happen exactly the way that you want it.

Progress on each build can be seen on <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/progress" target="_blank">this page</a>. The position of the "next release" bar shows that the next build will be released when the bugs/updates above it have been fixed and tested (as shown by "Accepted" status). As I'm sure you can see, it's not too far off. We can't give more specific timing than that because we can't say how long it will take to fix and text each issue.

I can't immediately see what your problem is, so I can't offer you any guidance on it. However, if you have reported it, then it will be known about. We get a huge volume of e-mail each day so unfortunately it's not possible to reply to each individual e-mail or bug report. However it isn't in our interest to have people unable to play the game, and solving these issues is what this alpha stage is all about.

Please have patience, and remember that the game is still in its alpha stage.

Quatermass - you bought into what we *hope* will turn out to be a fantastic game, but it isn't there yet.

There are stages in development where you do a rough draft of how you want it to hang together, then clean it up and make it pretty step-by-step.

    You knew this when you pre-ordered, but if you'd rather skip the "bad bits" and wait until the full game is released, that's OK by us - just don't complain about it in the meantime :-}

You can contribute and help it get to "complete" quicker by testing it though - see if you can find something others have missed that might not be perfect yet and let them know via the channels mentioned above.

Otherwise it's like complaining about cigarette smoke as you light a cigar, wanting everyone else to give them up so you can enjoy yours more.

I won't even bother addressing that tl;dr rant, because now you are just being obtuse. You are in a thread labeled "NS2 Progress". In the very first post of this thread, Charlie provided you with a link to their progress tracker. Everything listed above Build 151 is coming out in the next patch, including other fixes that are no longer displayed because it only shows the most recent stuff. The patch was announced on the front page to be released sometime this week.

Alternatively, anything not listed there is likely to be scheduled if it has been submitted as a bug to getsatisfaction. If it's not there, submit your problem. You keep talking about your problem, but haven't even said what it is in this thread. I can't play the game either. It doesn't mean I run around on the forum crying like an uninformed child. I know what's going on because I read. Call this fanboyism all you want, I'm not defending UWE here. I'm being <b>logical</b>.

What is the problem you're having?

We created the progress page so you can directly see what we're working on and what we have left to do before we release the patch.

The devs should NOT progress with the development of the next update until every single player is able to play the current version with no bugs or performance issues. One day our great great grand-children will enjoy Beta and we can all be proud that we helped the devs get there.

In news from yet another looney dimension, paying for alpha access and then being sent an alpha version of a game leads to riots among a colony of trolls with entitlement issues.

it's done when it's done. All of the "features" being added are bug fixes. (except fo the turrets, waypoints.etc.etc.) and once the tasks are completed down to the line sayin' build 151 the patch will be released.

OK. Can someone explain how this progress system work. I see "delivered" "started" "accepted" and I see some rows without anything. Rows below "Next release (Build 151)" means completed? I don't get it, sorry. Confusing system.

    Just make it this simple:
    1. green row - completed
    2. blue row - working on issue
    3. white row - issue in queue

    *facepalm*

Max explained it on the first page of this thread. Basically, it starts out with nothing, then it's Started, then Delivered (to testers), then it's Accepted (by testers).

Why not just follow them on <a href="http://twitter.com/NS2" target="_blank">Twitter</a>? Every time something happens (patch release, current work, new features), it's on there. I'm sure you can even find apps that will update you in real time as soon as something gets posted there.

    1. green row - completed

... does it have to be more advanced?

I also told UWE to also use Invision Power Tracker (forum addon/application), which is way better BTW, and we can follow progress easily. They could set up sections for each build etc and give issues rating after severity etc.

I don't get how this is different from the current system.

Green rows with Accepted = done.
White row labeled Delivered = testing.
White row with Started = starting/in progress.
    No label? in queue.

Seemed pretty straight forward to me at first glance.
