Non-Steam Version

Every once in a while, my school has a game day, in which it host a number of games for people to play. One of these games happens to be Half-Life. A friend an I were thinking of asking if we could install NS on a few of the computers (they're running about 25 with HL), but the problem is that the version of Half-Life is non-steam. Is there a way to run the current version of NS without steam?

None steam version = illegal HL install.

Talking about getting this version or about how to get NS to run on it is obviously not allowed here. NS probably can't run on that version either, being built to be steam compatible and all...

So I guess the short answer is no

I'm talking about the oldschool version of HL, that came before Steam. NS was also originally non-Steam, and was moved over later on.

I get your point, though. The current NS is meant for a Steam install, so finding a build that works with non-Steam HL is unlikely. Thanks anyway.

Not sure if Bry still has the old pre-steam versions of NS on here, but ya might want to have a look. They are probably Ns 1.04 or earlier though. That is if they are on there.... Best version in my opinion, but not all that stable and has lot's of bugs as well, was fun to play though with the right people

http://www.bryns.co.uk/downloads/files/ind...ural-selection/ -> if you can get it to load though, yikes it's slow atm!

I think you want ns_install_v1.exe in the natural-selection/install/old_versions/ with the 1.04_fix.zip as well

Have you tried installing the newest version of NS and just tried to see if it could work without steam? I think the installer may look for a steam directory but I'm pretty sure you can just change that directory to the proper folder in Half-Life.

Also, the newest version of NS that was supported on the old Half-Life was v2.0.

Yeah, I'd try this, because I'm pretty sure that the latest version still comes files that only the WON version of Half-Life used.

oh missed the old days before steam.. where you waited hours to days for patch update and downloading em and shear with your friends.

But if you can get an old HL (before steam) then you should see if new ns1 works. if not then you'll need to find a version that do work.

remember haveing CS beta 7 (one of the BEST versions of cs by far. there is one 1.x that was just as good) on steam running under HL.

A few error with keybord and in-game menus (they had to be text-based to work) that worked about 90-95% as you need to edit that part you self.
