I started playing in 1.04, wasn't here for the very first days though.

It's amazing how much has changed.

Holy crap! It's been almost 8 years......EIGHT YEARS!

I started playing the minute it was released. I remember my first game was on NS_Bast (the original where you could siege engine room from base) with huge lag, about 500-800ms and one of the first games i played took like 4-6 hours. It was Epic.

I've never played a game for as long as i've played NS, not even an MMO. It was the best game i've ever played, not just because of the game itself, but the community.

Building from the CC.
Giving the best player(s) JP HMGs and watching them take down hives by themselves.
NS. Eclipse with its old doors at MS. Fighting off onos rushes coming in through the doors.
Super Tower created by gorges.
When Bile bomb was super powerful.
Babblers.
When SC was garbage.

I remember those days.

Anyone remember the OLD ns_hera with the dual resnodes at the Holo room? How about ns_bast with the engine room fights around the rounded corner? Good times... good times!

I wonder if we can find a copy of ns 1.0 and set up a server :D

When did the double res nodes in holo get taken out. I remember them being in and then being removed. Wasn't it a later patched they got removed like 2.0 or 3.0?

I think i've been playing since like 1.0 or 1.01 maybe even 1.03. I remember the patch for 1.04.

Possibly for balance reasons but it was also bugged- sometimes it was hard/impossible to place the second node.

I liked the electric upgrade bug in 2.0 that let you electrify any structure. Electrified CC with banzai base = resistant to skulks and lerks.

Still feel that the best versions were 1.02 (no Motion Tracking or Ping of Death made for an INTENSE Marine game, where they had to actually exterminate at end of round instead of just kicking back.. or was 1.03 the last with that?) and the unreleased NS2.0z that was all about strategically gaining and holding ground, and crotch-punted you and your entire team for being a ramborine. No RT spam, because it took a full minute or two to start producing. No JP/HMG rushes, because the resources were too valuable to risk.

....aaaand then Combat came along. >X(

NS between 2.0 and 3.0 was some of the most fun I ever had in a video game.

Also I was too busy being lagged out by rooms full of sentries on bast to register on the 31st!

Fun times. Was great to see the maps evolve and change as time went on.

I joined back around 1.03, and fell in love with 1.04 (prob my favorite version thanks to the epic matches you could get). I don't remember babblers sadly :(

I can't remember if it was 2002 or not, but I did play one of the earlier releases and didn't have a favourable impression of it. Then I came back in 2004 and thought NS was the shiznits. But a couple years later I stopped playing because most of the servers started playing combat only for some reason which just wasn't fun for me. Now I'm back hoping NS2 lives up to its expectations and is combat mode free! :D

Bry's NS server stuff still have a 1.04 version you can use.

While I won't lament the loss of Ping of Death in NS2 (assuming...), surely every version had MT?

I've definitely been playing since Oct 31st, 2002. I've been here for all the NS moments. EC vs TAU, sYn vs EC, HAM, vets programs, release of CO, the creation of gorge rush (by sYn), 4 mine stack to kill a fade, watched and been in some of the most memorable Competitive matches ever. Oh and.

Should watch: http://www.ensl.org/movies/9 Team Exigent Ascension frag video.

We'll probably be back for NS2 :D

I don't even really recall when I first started playing, but I think it was right when it came out.. xD Played it for a while with a friend until something else (omg my memory's clouded) came by and I had no more time.. But when (in a rare moment of clarity) I remembered NS a year ago and fond memories flooded back. I looked it up and stumbled on the news of a part two being in development! I had no idea! Shame on me.. shame shame shame...

Been checking up on occassion since and last night I registered + ordered the special editition + spread the news to friends, all to support Unknown Worlds. Can't wait to play again! ^^

PS: This is my first post, yaay

I was in from the very start but stopped playing shortly after 2.0 came out and never even checked out versions after that.

Tons of fun! Looking forward to the Alpha on the 26th!

Oh, and if you were in [TG] with me drop me a note!

Nope, it was broken prior to 1.04 (or 1.03.. which was just a whistlestop patch that quickly got bumped to 1.04 IIRC). You could buy it, but it didn't do anything. Made the game MUCH better not to have big glowy 'SHOOT HERE' circles.

I remember babblers. But lerk flight used to suck soooooo bad. Fade blink was unreliable and onoes! were nearly invincible. You couldn't use armory while it was upgrading...
Got stuck millions of times evolving regen/cer in a vent...
I liked telefragging.
Cant wait to play again!

Yep, but they were taken out in playtesting before release, so unless you PT'd pre 1.0 you never got to see them. They were hilarious and hectic. Had some really fun games with them.

Ahh a nostagia thread how i love it.

Proper shotguns, low grav room on hera, FPS linked JPs, proper full fat OC towers... the good old buggy days lol.

Was around for most of it, even the pictures of nancy and the scorpians that hover without flapping. (Is mentioning the scorpians still a bannable offence ? lol)

Aww, good old 1.0 indeed.

I remember clearly joining my very first game, just like 2hours after release. All 14 of us never played before, and all 14 of us didnt read the guide/manual. Took us 1 min to figure out how to spawn as a marine, 5 min to figure the basics of the res system for aliens (build a res tower = more RPS for every alien), 15 minutes for the tech trees and turrets, and 2 hours until the aliens managed to kill the marines, after an awesome battle. :)
