so the actual NS2 rifle behaves a bit differently.

now, what exactly could that mean? to me it sounds like something is there maybe recoil or spread /overheating

EDIT: That is what the blog said

so maybe the rifle gets relaxed after a few drinks and behaves differently who cares . why start a new thread for this? is it such a big deal that it cant go into the 3 others? seriously

Different firing rate, more spread, who knows? Who cares? It's a gun that shoots bullets, it's not exactly full of hidden secrets.

And NS2 version will most likely iterated quite a few times, imo it was probably a disclaimer so no QQ speculation threads popped up about how the new lmg is functioning in that video

The rifle has only 9 bullets then your commander has to give you a new one.

The rifle bursts 3 bullets at a time, the third burst is the final.

The rifle has a built in flash light, that does not work.

lol... just seems like they're implying theirs more to just point and hold click.
  • MuYeahMuYeah Join Date: 2006-12-26 Member: 59261Members
The rifle range gun has 99 bullets in a clip and seemingly no spread.
  • -Diesel--Diesel- Join Date: 2009-09-13 Member: 68769Members
Maybe they mean the animations and bullet count... spread?

I hope the animation gets changed. It looks wiggly in the video. Not like hes shooting a rifle. More like holding jello.

But I think I hear a dev say they were placeholders.

I'm wondering why there's no scope, or other means of aiming, on the rifle.. I have a hope that you have to aim down the sight, ala MW.

    Nanites!

Seriously though, I know many recent games go in hard with the iron sight, but I have a hard time seeing it fit in NS2 with all those leaping skulks and flying lerks. I get the feeling it would tend to get in the way more often than not.

I will only buy the normal version of NS2 if they put in iron sight because the UWE will definitely not have my eternal gratitude in that regard.
  • GaussWaffleGaussWaffle Join Date: 2008-02-22 Member: 63708Members
from the looks of it, they took our any spread code so that gun simply shot in a point, and set the "clip" to the highest number the gun GUI could show, 99.

If the skulks and fades are going to be as fast as they are in NS1...

Ironsights would not work, they would be useless.

By the time you bring the aim up to shoot you'd be dead.

Yeah, but when you want to cap that idling skulk reeeeally far away, they'd help out. In any case, NS Marines have actual UI's and aiming reticules, so no point.

    haha aye.

Wouldnt fit in in my opinion. The marines have a hud, the HUD would probably have the ability to calculate where the bullets will hit for ease of use and kind of eliminate the need for iron sights. Just a stupid thought :P

This isnt red orchestra or something, iron sights work better in a slightly slower paced game setting and one with out aliens :P

I mean I guess it would be kind of cool if they were included as an option but i doubt many people would take advantage.

There's no ironsights and the ammo counter was 99 because it was for the mod.

Didn't you know, COD4 invented aiming down guns. In fact, it invented multiplayer FPS.

I absolutely loved playing CoD with ironsights only, but it certainly isn't NS. NS is something completely different and awesome for very, very different reasons. Combining the two would be like Arnold Swarzenegger trying to pull off Tarantino dialogue.

No it did not. I found a game that seem to have invented it (atleast according to wiki)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIDI_Maze

And as cod4 came 2007, I think its safe to say that cs was before it aswell (and many more fps games).

NS is the game where you bunnyhop backwards avoiding skulks. I don't think iron sights would be very beneficial to game play. NS marines shoot from the hip, because they frigging have to.

    And your source is.... what?

I'm just going to copy my post from a thread in I&S asking for iron sights.

QUOTE (BigText @ Jan 27 2010, 05:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

"HEY I LOVE MW2 SO COULD YOU PUT MW2 STUFF IN MY NS2 SO I CAN KEEP PLAYING MW2 WHILE I PLAY NS2?"

This is your entire argument, and the argument of every single other person asking for iron sights. You want MW2 iron sights? Go play MW2. You want fast, asymmetrical gameplay involving you to keep running and jumping to kill aliens trying to rip you in two? Play NS/NS2.

I get it. You like MW2. You see the positives in its gameplay and think that they could apply to and help NS2. The simple fact of the matter is: you're wrong. Completely wrong. The action that happens in MW2 and NS (presumably NS2 as well) is so incredibly different that it simply won't work.

    Just let the issue drop.

    1. I thought he just used wrong word and meant something like "revolutioned mp fps" (never played it tho, so I got no idea myself), and tried to point at his in that case, obvius fail at vocabulary, by proving what he said wrong.

    2. I find sarcasm hard to notice. Atleast when there is no smileys.

    3. I like lists

    4. and most lists got profit at # 4. So where is my money :)?

couple points.. there were no iron sites in MW2 but that was a great mech game (bit dated now though)

also, no ironsights in NS2 please, they are advanced space marines, cameras on the gun, sight linked into the visor. if you have tech pointing a crosshair to your visor, why the need to look downt he barrel.
