Thanks for the video. I know it's just a 500 line test mod, so I won't criticize it. However, I do have a question.

I like how the targets seem to be falling with physics.
Q:Was it really just physics? Or was some of that pre-canned animation? Some of the targets seemed to fall too similar ways to be real physics.

G: My guess is that the falling was indeed physics but the bullets don't add momentum to the piece they hit. They just knock the pieces loose, which then falls straight down with physics. In that case all the torso shots would fall the same way. I'm a real physics nut when it comes to games, hence my curiosity.

    EDIT: some grammar and comprehension

its not a bullpup rifle so the ejection side doesnt make much of a difference.

The marines must walk with their left sides pointing ahead just to shoot straight. :P

I know you guys want to show off your beautiful model but
    1) The perspective is simply inaccurate. As far as I know, when soldiers are engaging a target, they keep their arms positioned in such a way that the rifle is always pointed straight ahead. If they need to shoot to the left or to the right they turn at the waist. (note that from their first-person-perspective, their rifle would still look as if it were pointed straight ahead). The only time they might ever angle the rifle is if they're trying to blind fire around a corner or something.

if he's shooting from the hip, the view is fine. if he's shooting from the shoulder, the rifle should be just off centre pointing directly where he is looking. his left hand grip would have to change as well because he is currently reaching across his body to hold the rifle suggesting he's shooting from the hip. for him to shoot from his shoulder, his left hand should be palm up with his hand pointing in the direction of the target. that grip forces the left forearm into a vertical position, as opposed to the current grip which is across the body.

of course you can shoot from your shoulder using the current left hand grip, however its not very stable

What he's saying with those images is that the aspect ratio is out. Making it unnatural and unpleasent to aim with. Either that or the person aiming in that video is really bad at games :P

Curving bullets powered by nanites perhaps? /sarcasm
It's pretty ugly yes, I hope they do something about the amount of space the weapon takes up on the screen as well.

Actually it only means that the crosshair is not centered at the vanishing point. The gun could still be pointing at the crosshair, as it is somewhere on the line between vanishing point and the muzzle of the gun. If the gun would fire a laserbeam (woohoo lasers), the vanishing point would indicate where it'd hit in infinity, while the crosshair would indicate where it would hit some distance in front of the player.

However, most other games (e.g. Crysis) place the vanishing point at the center, because it kind of looks good no matter what the target distance might be.

Gamers have been used to right handed setups since.. so far back. An optional left/right hand version would be best, allowing each to their own.

Hurray for left-handed weapons ! Like in counter-strike

By the way, gameplay > realism

Here is a warped fix... the rifle still looks good, but its just smaller... The rifle is aiming dead center. You need a reasonable FOV and a reasonable size for it to look good, otherwise you get the l4d2/console giant look and its just wrong.

I hope the entire game is like this, many details, made with patience. Not like those EA games that suck and rush the production.

Of course, but realism add to the gameplay.

I'd rather have a very polished game that LOOKs realistic and is fun to play also.

NS Is a great game, but if you go look at the fade vs marine combat for example... you will think it looks ridiculous. I hope they make the game look polished and realistic in NS2 but still keep the great gameplay.

the crysis gun and the photoshopped versions here are all way too small

its no wonder they hardly show us anything - you get some demo footage as a treat which says it does not represent the final game, and yet people go ape spit over minor details,

bunch of internet warriors that think they can make a better game - well go on then, make a better game (we can always do with a few more good indie games)

Not really. Just making sure Dev's are aware of issues.
But I guess if you want to blow it out of proportion like that, Ok...

You're really the one coming off as an "internet warrior" in this case.

What do you mean "reasonable" size "reasonable" look? "It's just wrong"

I agree with the gun pointing to where the crosshair is, but why would you want a tiny ass gun in the corner of your screen? Seems like all you want is small things, first smaller skulks, then smaller maps, and now smaller guns.

Whats next? Smaller codpieces for the marines ######s so you can relate to it?

If this is because you are a "Pro NS player" and you want more space on your screen... Fine make a mod to make the gun go away entirely. But stop being selfish, nobody really cares about competitive gaming besides the bum people who play in it. This game is being made for everyone including people who never played NS1.

The size of the gun is fine infact, I think the gun looks much better being NORMAL SIZE. That way I can see the ammo counter and all the nice animations better. It also makes the game more immersive. I don't care about winning, I play for fun. For gods sake it is a game. Let the developers make the game the way they want to. The guns size is PERFECT. No need to make this game into some kinda competitive POS that has zero fun and only focuses on winning and losing. /endrant.

What? These are helpful suggestions, not flamewars. If I were in UW's place I'd be helpful for the tip - at least assuming they really overlooked it - indeed it's of the main reasons they release alpha/beta at all, as they did with original NS.

    Don't listen to him, draco.

They hardly show us anything because

    1. They are too hard at work to bother with that crap.

thats just the point - THERE ARE NO ISSUES - the video isnt even part of the game! its to test engine features.

being critised for every little thing (even if you are right) does not necessarily come off well - after a while it turns into a nagging voice.

I agree that the size in the video is alright, its just it isn't real. They can keep the size and keep it real :) By giant and console size, I mean l4d2: http://pausegaming.com/niall/L4D2demo/c5m1...erfront0029.jpg
