Pre-Order And Possible Box?

Out of curiosity. If I were to get a pre-order does that mean that I will only get a digital version of the game that would only be activatable though steam or direct download? Also, considering Natural Selection 2 is going to be retail, does that mean there will be a box version of it? I would much rather have a special edition box version of the game rather than a online version of the game.

When did you ever hear there is going to be a retail version?

Probably not. A box version requires a publisher and alot of overhead which I'm not sure UWE can muster at this point. I too however want to have more than just a digital copy. I'm hoping that they include the ability to make NS2 into an ISO so I can burn an install disk for my own peace of mind.

A hard copy of a multiplayer-only game doesn't make much sense, because you need to go online and get the latest version before you can play it anyway

In terms of special extras, I'd love it if a t-shirt or poster was available (and they probably will be at some point)

edit: yes, I knew about that poll...I'm just saying these things would be much more desirable to me than a hard copy of a game. It's like getting a driver disk for a new video card, I'm just going to go online for the latest version anyway.

I am pretty sure they were planning to sell shirts at one point. They even had a poll about it.

T-shirts would be a great revenue raiser. Or a "Skulk" Cap. :-P

I say that angrily because we've been waiting 7 years for it :P

    Boxed version? Highly unlikely.

However, they might be able to work out a deal where they could mail you a NS2 DVD if you requested and paid for it. But even this seems sorta unlikely. NS2 will most likely be 100% digital and after you download it feel free to make that file into an ISO and burn it.

This is a really old question which is easily answered,

Digital distribution only, at present. Any further information ie. ever or future boxed, no one knows.

*Sigh* so a special edition pre-order is as good as it gets then? Thats depressing as well! 'Cause I would actually go out of my way and play like $60 for a boxed version or something... But fair enough! Thanks guys! Maybe see you in the later game then =o

They would probably earn a less from a 60 dollar box than they would from a 40 or maybe even 20 dollar digital download.

They would make even more if it were an analog download.

I would pay double for a boxed version. And no, I am not being a smart ass.
  • GeezerGeezer Join Date: 2004-09-28 Member: 31976Members
I wouldn't. ###### that. Maybe if the boxed version came with a t-shirt, a special "Behind the Scenes: The Making of Natural Selection 2", and a small plush gorge.

On second thoughts, nah. ###### that. $40 digital is fine for me.

I'm right there with you on that. Not to mention, $80 is cheap for a new game these days. Sigh at game prices

I would absolutely buy a shirt. I haven't pre-ordered, (and will not in the near future), but I am indeed a fan of video-game related apparel.

    Yes, deliciously sarcastic.

Wait a second. $40 is for special edition, right ? Regular edition is $20 for preorder. What are the prices going to be once NS2 is released ? It's not in preorder FAQ.

I'm not going to purchase a product which i have never seen and will receive "sometime in the next year unless it gets delayed again." Just a personal preference, but thanks for caring. I would, on the other hand, purchase a shirt which I can wear in celebration of a video game which I am highly anticipating playing sometime in the next 12 months.
