<div class="IPBDescription">Link Inside</div>I didn't see a thread for this, oddly enough. <a href="http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/904386/natural-selection-2/videos/natural2_trl_skulkreveal_8509.html" target="_blank">Check out the new Skulk</a>!

IMHO it looks fantastic. I don't like the bones on the Onos and I'm not so sure about the gorilla makeover, but everything about the Skulk is great. He got beefier (because he's getting more hitpoints) and his claws got smaller (so it makes more sense that he bits you instead) and his bite animation looks fantastic compared to the original NS. He can also spring like a gazelle so no worries about him being slow or anything :D

It kinda reminds me of the NS1 fade... hmmm...

either way, the skulk looks much beefier. don't know if I like it but I'm gonna keep my fcking mouth shut until the game is actually made because god knows that if I only saw the skulk from NS1 before I played NS, I may not have stuck around. I wanna see that baby in action

I'm not a fan of the cleft lower jaw, but that's purely personal preference. Overall it looks awesome.

It looks very good. I really like the animation, model and textures of the new Skulk.
    Much more scarier.

Really hope that it looks exactly like that in-game.

    I like it!

It's like a dog, except that it looks mean and skulky.

The textureyness is similar to the onos.

    ...

But more like a mean dog.

Given these reveal videos are rendered in-game, it goes without saying that it sure will :)

As already stated, the new bite animation is great. They will definitely look a lot scarier running down a hallway at you.

I'm loving it! It looks really, really good... the bite animation in particular looks really good, imo. Much better than the NS1 "mouth open, mouth close" thing that happened.

Reminds me of the dog like demon from the first Hellboy film. Very nice.

Not sure if I really like the new skulk.... Yeah, its its more beefier and more muscular looking but is that really a skulk? It looks like a dog... which theres nothing wrong with... but I sort of get this impression:

    <a href="http://www.miniaturepinscherclub.co.uk/pincher.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.miniaturepinscherclub.co.uk/pincher.jpg</a>

yeah, if its the size of the far back one it would be cool... but its a skulk we are talking about so you end up getting something that looks tough, but in a miniature, which is lame?

Skulks are the ninjas of the games. They sneak around, hide in the shadows and leap out. They dont need to be beefy. Think they should have gone with a much more sleeker look.

although the more i watch the video the more im ok with it....

What I'm really curious about is the scale of the skulk. I like the idea of small puppy-sized skulks with stubby but strong legs rather than the german shepherd that this video reminds me of.

Awesome stuff, I really liked the bottom jaw because its a bit of a mix of a snake and the predator XD.

Looks good! The jaw kinda reminds me of predator though : <a href="http://media.photobucket.com/image/predator%20mouth/impress069/predator.jpg" target="_blank">img for reference</a> : as above, watching it a few times it's not too bad.

Looking forward to seeing it on my screen as I'm blasting it with the shotty though!

You're still in the NS mindset. In NS2 Skulks are stronger and slower, to make it easier for new players (more HP = you will die less even if you don't figure out how to keep from getting shot).

    Love the new skulk.

Always hated how the NS1 skulk was so shrimpy and fragile.

The "Predator mouth" is kind of strange... but it definitely makes the skulk look more vicious, feral, and wild. I think the jaws shouldn't be joined together by a flap of skin; make it more like the "uber vampires" from Blade 2 or the Arbiter from Halo. The flap of skin seems to warp unnaturally whenever the bottom jaws move away from each other. Maybe some more work on that certain facet and it would be unnoticeable. Maybe just make it less of a flap; less like the membrane between spines on a lizard's back, more like the patch of skin between a human's thumb and index finger.

I wonder how the motion-blending aspect of the engine will take a skulk running and biting at the same time? For that matter, the running action was really well done. It looks like the skulk would be able to snap at things while running around.

Just reiterating that the new skulk looks awesome in pretty much every way.

It's funny, though, because they reduced the durability of the skulk in the first game to prevent rushes; which, BTW, I really loved. The rushes make for an intense first minute. It always gave me a sense that the marines just landed, the aliens heard them, and they rushed to meet and measure the unknown potential threat. In fact, I always wanted the beginning of a round to start with marines spawning inside of an airlock, pressurizing for a couple seconds (scanning for contaminants, whatever), and then the airlock opening. Perhaps a mapper can make this happen.

So, I have to wonder if the skulk rushes are back, even if they are slower.

The skulk model and animations are wicked. Love 'em. I imagine the new lower jaw is going to be interesting in first person view. Not only that, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was done to prevent the teeth from blocking all your vision when biting.

I hope the game still plays as fast despite the slower-looking skulk. One of the best parts of NS was the sheer speed of movement.

I totally agree with you, but at least there's some consolation.

As it seems lower jaw has part missing, this could indicate on mouthcam if you are running upsidedown or on the wall etc.

I hope as they now have released skulk and onos, they will soon release Alpha. Map makers will use these two as measurements for vents and doors. Well they also need to release marine for human measurements. Marine next anyone?!

(I posted this on Twitter thread and now here)

I wonder if they'll make the camera orientation follow the orientation of the skulk positioning.

So if you're on the roof, everything is rotated accordingly, THAT would be showing the skill of a player then to adapt to the camera rotation like that.

    @ Daworm

I'm fairly certain there was a video post about how they are intending to implement exactly this (camera rotation for skulk). It was a loooong time ago though.

Hmm that skulk is definitely quite a looker. Definitely a beefed up lifeform there, and without a doubt an improvement on its original form. I'm a little curious however about whether or not this alien's role will be drastically changed. Skulks, while weak, were an essential member of the alien team, and when combined with some onos and fades could really do some damage. I'm hoping that the speed decrease will still allow it to keep the majority of its role.

The alien team should really have an alien that can make some haste on the ground, and as of NS1 the Fade, Onos, Gorge, and Lerk all have about the same ground speed. I hope the new skulk can still set a bit of a fast pace!

I love it! That is definitely a skulk to fear.

My only criticism would be that in my opinion the skulk is a bit too "tall" or whatever, I mean the body is a bit far off the ground, which I think could look weird when wall/ceiling walking. Unless of course they have different animations for that kind of movement.

I am very impressed with the art direction in this game. And the artists are really great! :)

Can't wait to see it in its proper environment. Also the other aliens (especially the gorge!)

I like it. Looks far more dangerous.
Though i liked the more agile one more, but we'll see in game!
The Running animation looks a bit unnatural atm i think.
