I posted it on Deviantart. Let me know if there is a problem. Hope you enjoy, although this is my first crack at making a skin so there may be issues :).

Trying to figure out if there is a way to change the texture for the context menus. Also when you are in offline more for example there is another area I am unsure how to change the texture of. You can see both in the screenshot below.

Have a look at SSkinner it'll help you do all the menu's etc. a lot quicker.

I was messing about on a simple colouring change with that while at work.

Ok I was able to find out which section to edit for the context menu with this. Unfortunately still not sure how to edit that one particular text area. Ah well no biggie

However, I am 99.9% certain they will not work with the current version of steam

I used the marine skin a long time ago; would love to see it being remade, with NS2 art ofc :)

Things with detail like the welder wouldn't go well with this scheme. Maybe I could make it work, but for now I will leave it as is. I imagine once we have more NS2 media I will make a much better skin :) (Probably after release).

Here is a screenie of the latest version. I will probably release this, although there are still things I couldn't figure out how to do. I guess I will just update the skin I figure that out.

    Honestly?

    Well done mate :)

The texture is nice, it is irregular enough to not look bad, etc etc etc.

I think the best part is that you got the infestation to really blend in well with it.

    :D

The one thing I would say is to make harder edges for each section. Possibly a simple black border fro things like tabs, menus, windows, etc. Instead of the grey border that is there now...

Ya I was thinking the same thing. I will play with it some more today maybe.

@Polska: I thought he meant the welder icon.

What is the current one you've got? I don't remember what it is from NS. I think it's fine myself. It's the same as the New Topic button for the forums, I noticed.

I was thinking of using the ingame icons (from commander view). Problem is the icons I used all have a flat look (ie all details stripped). Then I just mask a gradient over them to get the effect. Welder just wouldn't look like much of a welder if I did that.

Wow I blink and someone has a skin up. Am I looking at the skinning the wrong way? I've been looking at the files given with the default skins and I'm getting nowhere.

I have absolutely no idea if it would be possible (Or who would wanna put the hours in) but man it would be awesome to have an animated skin where the main Steam window is slowly being taken over by the infestation.

I don't think Steam Skins allow that without some core code changes...

Ya unfortunately this is not possible. There are a very limited amount of functions we are given access to draw with. The ones that draw images only take TGA images (so not animates ones).
