The terminal in Dead Air campaign is stupidly easy to get 10+min. Me and my friends (and a bot) got 17min after a few tries. Overall, survivor mode gets repetitive real fast but they kind of fixed that by giving us 16 new levels. Four smokers is not fun and increased hunter pounce-stalling on those nearby can be a real danger. The AI tank has adapted to punching more survivors in one punch so if he sneaks up between all of you, prepare to fall down the pit. Also, most maps lack any kind of good areas to stick to, any tank makes sure of that and throw in a few smokers and regulars and stuff gets real hard. Shoot the tank, or whirl around and look for smokers?

Haven't tested the new maps for versus yet.

New survival mode is highly map dependent. I had a whole lot of fun last night though. Got 12:30 in the warehouse. I think the lighthouse is the hardest.

It has breathed some new life into the game for me, and double the versus maps is double the fun.

i got 10:00:23 with my roommate and 2 randoms in the hospital. most intense yellmatch ever for that last minute.

note: in the hospital there is one room with double doors at the end of the hall that gets opened after the initial wave, and the double doors are the only entrance to it. plus beds to hop over to avoid tank.

Survival is a lot more fun than I expected it to be.

The lighthouse map is hilarious just by how wrong everything goes.

has anyone had any successful plans on lighthouse? the one that worked the best was hiding on the stairs.

my favorite experience on it though was the first time we played it, we hid in the bathroom, which we figured was always the safest of choices. soon enough 3 of the 4 bathroom walls came crashing down, and we died at about 1:30

I really wish that the Survival mode was most like the Nazi Zombie mode in COD:WAW, with time to resupply and rebuild walls or something.

Granted I've only played the Lighthouse level, it quickly became a cluster ###### and there's no other place to really defend outside the top of the building. They made nearly every wall breakable for the infected and when you're stuck at the top you can't rush back down to pick up more supplies so we never found any use of the excess.

Question: How many people have tried this on Xbox?

And if so, what are the best times you are getting? It seems to me that getting anywhere near a decent time on Xbox requires ludicrous skill or just glitching (such as hanging of ledges to eek out the timer).

Haven't tried it on PC yet, but it seems like a waste of my time, and it definitely seems like it was built with PC users in mind and not heavily tested on the 360.

    Thoughts?

I remember one of my groups first plans for the light house was to put canisters outside of every exit visible from the room we planned to hold up in.. and to keep the spares in the room to throw out later
of course, within 30 seconds of starting a stray bullet hit our stash and we all burned to death

I cant even imagine playing l4d on 360, twitching in all directions constantly just isn't something you can do with a controller. Landing headhots on a leaping hunter or on a smoker hiding behind stuff while getting bashed by regular zombos must be extremely hard. I've got no idea if they have eased it up for console with fewer/weaker zombies but it would suck in any case.

A technique that works best on maps without any particular good place to hold up in is equipping everyone with auto shotties and stand somewhere relatively safe from being dragged far away by smokers. Preferably a indestructible corner with something in front. Equipment wont be a issue, just stay all 4 in the same place and use only pistols. Whenever a tank approaches, bring up the shotties and blast away simultaneously at near point blank at the tank. Even the fully buffed ones can't take this sort of punishment, everyone just needs to fire less then a full clip to take it down. The shotty has around 120 shots so that's roughly 15 tanks you can take down without ever rearming, as long as everyone sticks to pistols after each tank.

I can't imagine playing L4D on a PC. Do people use microphones?

The joy of the 360 is hearing your cohorts panic and shriek and plot and quip and share giant sighs of relief, then doing it all over again. It's a bonding experience. It's a big giggle.

I don't think tapping 'lol' on the keyboard would really cut it.

No, it's more a silent exercise in rage towards your incompetent fellow man, except he's not your fellow and probably not man either.

Id say the same amount of people use the mic on the computer as on a console.

Ahh, you changed your post as I was replying. Thereby negating the need for my reply.

    Hrrk.

I'd say communication on PC is tighter because even if you don't have a mic you have some way of communicating that isn't 20 wpm Live messages. I'd agree that the ratio of mic-users to non-mic users is similar across both platforms, but I mostly play with my Friends list on PC so the number is even higher.

on PC more people use mic for l4d than any other game i've played. my roommate and i will usually start a game, and at least 1 of the 2 people that join our 4 person match uses their mic most of the time, and quite often both will. we have both gotten new friends to play with many times. plus, in my opinion, the people that use their mic on PC are much more mature than the people that use mics on xbox. there's much less of the racist belligerent offensive idiot 12 year olds and more of the friendly players looking to have some real fun.

    Ahh yes. You're right!

And I'd agree that you're probably going to get more idiot kids on Xbox Live than on the PC. But Live also houses the type of gamer I prefer most of all: thirty-something types with kids and a mortgage that generally don't take things all that seriously. Getting a sneaky hour or two with the stupid games while the wife watches Grey's Anatomy or something. They know there are more important things in life than getting points or frags or whatever; I like that.

Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a format argument. Glad to hear the mic community is well represented on PC L4D.

Got a free weekend for Live so am looking forward to giving the survival mode a shot.
