Multi-monitor Question

Full Screen Applications and Focus
I have a multi-monitor setup where I play a full screen game (such as NS or CSS) and I would like to do web browsing on the second monitor. To activate my mouse I just bring up the steam menu and I can move the mouse to the second monitor. The problem is that when I click on the second monitor, the game will lose focus and it will minimize. Does anyone know to to prevent this without playing in Windowed mode?

Nope, it's not possible. HL/HL2 do not like losing focus, and will minimize. The only way it would be possible is if you had a second computer hooked up to the second monitor, and the mouse/keyboard switched via hardware. (Even using Synergy doesn't work because when you go to the other screen whatever window has focus loses it)

Run the games windowed, but set their resolution so they fit 1 entire monitor.

I've heard that if you run 2 video cards, and had one hooked to one monitor and one hooked to the other then this is possible. the problem is that you have to have the same video card, or at least 2 cards that use the same drivers(maybe).

I tried it once with an ati 9800pro and an ati hd2600 but couldn't get both monitors to work. I'm not sure if it works like this since i've never seen it working, but i've seen several posts online of people attempting it as a solution to this exact problem, but they never post their results.

You beat me to it! If I ever played an MMO, I'd do this even with just 1 monitor to make minimizing/chatting in another program/surfing the web easier.

Borderless window mode will help you out even more, because it looks fullscreen if set to desktop res. Of course only if the game in question supports it.

Lef4Dead and World of Warcraft have this setting in their video options and TF2 can use it when you add -borderless to the steam launch option in steam.

Also this is bookmark material if you want to get more games to run in windowmode:
