How`s NS today?

<div class="IPBDescription">I want to play again!</div>I downloaded NS first on the very same day it was released. The game was very complex and hard to learn, but I kept playing and, in the end, I realized that it was probably one of the most awesome things ever created. I even played in a clan and had a very good time. I loved every aspect of the game and commanding a good team was simply awesome. No other online game before, or since, has been so much fun.

Then, one day, I quit. I think it was shortly after some major update (2.0?) that introduced the new game mode (can`t recall the name, but it was a simplified version of the classic game mode). I just didn`t feel like playing anymore. But now I would love to get back. How has the game changed after I left? Is there any players anymore? Should I give it a try or am I just going to be dissappointed by the lack of players and lack of fun?

For me, NS is still one of the best, if not <b>the</b> best multiplayer game ever made. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

There have been more people playing, but theres still a very stable playerbase. 32 Servers full of people right now.
With some luck, NS 1 could be released on Steam soon aswell:

We are currently waiting for a status update.

A lot of things have changed and the most servers are running all kind of plugins, but it's worth getting used to it.

Sounds great. I guess I`ll download NS right away. Small community of players has its advantages, too. Even if there isn`t that many servers full of people, at least the players are more experienced and dedicated. At least that`s what I hope.

See you all in the game.

There is plenty of servers still up. I would recommend going to G4B2S or 187|combat.

Well the two main NS servers are the <BAD> clan server and the G4B2S server. Seeing as you don't like combat, you probably wouldn't want to play on 187 combat.
On the <BAD> server (the name says enough about them already) just about everyone is awful and those who aren't attempt to stack on the winning team every game (ironically the majority of them being members of the BAD clan.) After coding the most horrible stacker plug in that I've ever seen created they decided to rid of it after awhile and random teams every round with little to no success. The admins are more lenient than the ones at G4B2S but equally retarded I have found.
On G4B2S, the players on a whole are probably better, there is less stacking, less plug ins. The only problem is that the people who run G4B2S will ban you at the drop of a pin and the admins are retarded as stated earlier.

My advice: Play in G4B2S and keep your comments to yourself.

<BAD>, G4B2S, and 187 Combat are yank servers.

If your a euro hit up NS Talent, Able, or VH2.
Personally I find the two Talent server to be the best, always playing classic, minimal plugins, and lenient admins.

That reminds me, what ever happened to YO Clan?

YO shut down their NS server a while back (thank god).

Both (BAD) and G4B2S stack horribly, but generally are the ones with players regularly on them. Don't worry about complaining about it, it's just a fact of life in NS. When I join the euro servers (high ping doesn't matter, I suck either way) there's generally a higher level of play and less stacking. VH2 has friendly fire enabled, which I like (reminiscent of LunixMonster and FR31NS).

    Welcome back!

I`m european and talent servers seem fine to me. At least you don`t need to play combat. NS seems like a fun game still, even though I really suck in it. I guess I have to learn almost everything again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

So were there anymore updates to the hl1 world for graphics enhancements?

I agree. CO is fun and all, but classic NS is really where it's at for me.

It feels like every update since release has made the gameplay faster, so I guess CO is only a natural result of that. I remember when NS games would take an hour or more, and I loved it. The slow pace of the rounds compared with the fast pace of the battles was perfect for me.

NS is still great though. Few games have kept me coming back so consistently.

it's so awesome to see there's still so many people playin this game! I quit like... 4(?) years ago to play WoW. I finally quit that game and decided to reinstal NS last night. I played a few rounds on G4B2S and was terrible, haha! The game is as fun as i remember back in 1.04 or whatever it was <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I would recommend playing on the <GUD> server aka www.evolvens.com , a lot of old NS pros and competent players regular that server. Its a pretty lax server, with pretty decent admin base (of course I am biased, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> ) but at the same time there are a lot of close competitive games. Any one can earn a reserve slot, and there are no donation fees to obtain a reserve slot. All we ask is that you just register on the forums before you ask for a reserve slot.

We are always looking to expand our community, and the server really has been populated quite well in the past few weeks. I highly recommend becoming a member of this excellent community.

You can register on the forums at <a href="http://www.evolvens.com" target="_blank">http://www.evolvens.com</a>

hello, I'm an old (French) NS gamer too.

I didn't play since 3-4 years (played Warcraft 3). But I always gone on unknownworlds/NS website to be "up-to-date"

    Happy to see I'm not alone <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />, I just installed STEAM/HL/NS yesterday and hope I could play this evening.

But no more non-official NS french web site seems to be alive...

NS it's the best ever game I never played. The idea of the command "box" is awesome !!

    Waiting for the "unknown worlds"...

I just re-started my NS 2 months back. I'm from Singapore and it's pretty sad to say that NS in south east asia is dead. The closest server is in China and the people there play absolutely horribly. No tactical sense whatsoever and only 1% can comm decently. Aliens almost never drop RTs and marines always cry for weapons like babies. Probably the worst thing is going into a 26 player server and they vote changemap to CO. It's just sad.

But I don't think anyone would be interested in this anyway.

the Chinese servers are funny, you can easily go 15-0 as an non-upgraded skulk with our feeble European pings pinging 500 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> but that being said it was just as easy to go 15-0 as a vanilla rine on most Aussie servers (though skulks another story) which for reasons I cba to understand had lower pings despite being geographically further away <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> Bigbanana is the fiend who introduced me to the guilty pleasure of playing on said Chinese server and I whole-heartedly recommend people playing on there at least twice <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

on a more practical note you might wanna try playing on USWest servers, they're probably closest for you with any tangible sense of gameplay OR I guess you could try playing on the Korean servers but I really don't know how that'd ping plus speaking Korean might be a major problem too ;p Anything sub 200 ping you could probably get accustomed to though it might not be the greatest game in the world <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

The best server was the SEK2000 - a server from germany.
It had a more than just excellent game managing plugin running.
It'd improve the resource system, remove resources for kills,
detect noobs and griefers and kick/ban them, allow good players
to achieve higher ranks and gain privileges to start map-/kick-/ban-
votes and do a proper teambalance by reminding a players stats
and judging their skills from it. Also you had to wait a minute be-
fore the round'd start, so people actually have time to communicate
and think. Every round would end with "Good game!", no matter
whether one lost or won the match. Always perfectly balanced.

The server went down somewhen in 2007
because people started playing combat only.

    Before SEK2000 I'd play on TBS#4 from the "Chaoskrieger"-Community.
Hilarious and good times, but that community is now dead as well.
Setting things up again is all a question of money. A real shame.

If there is something that really spoiled NS for me it'd be the change in
the resources system. Gorges no more get the most from the resources
pool and you get 3 resources per kill, which results in less organisative
teamplay and strategy but more seek'n'destroy, hacking, cheating and griefing.

i havent had a proper game of NS since 2004 when i played with a clan on their server really.
ive tried it since then but the player scripts, plugins, lame tactics, 15 min long classic games, co dominated server list and all the other garbage have made it feel pointless and unfun for me.
ah well i might give it another go since source engine games/mods are getting a tad repetitive.
but these days playing something like NS is like seeing a supermodel who you knew from years ago, now in her 80s...

Wow, hi 1/4! Check out the <GUD> server, really decent skill level (way better than I'll be in constant loss land), and decent people. There's a lot of competitive players, but overall enjoyable. All consti's get RS, and it's pretty easy to get one if you're not, as long as your a competent player.
