Nano repair

I was wondering why there was no nano repair implemented in NS?

I always thought about this, and then also saw it on a co server with a plugin installed.

Basically there can be a research that would activate these nanites through the marines armor and buildings. These nanites can repair the marines armor with 1hp/s and buildings at the same rate aliens building heal.

Just saying.

It's not really a problem now since the remaining people who are playing are vets, but when NS 2 comes out, and there will be a lot new people, this could come in handy.

Just suggesting it out there.

I've thought of this too, but I personally don't think I would like to see this in game. I see armour and welding as a way of encouraging marines to stick together. A mairne with 0 armour is easily picked off, even a super leet pro marine. The marine has no choice but to stick with his team then. If the armour repairs itself, then there is no reason for any marine to stick with their team.

I also see armour as the thing that "slows" marines down, the "battle scares" if you will. I would think that a marine pistol whipping skulks left and right, taking bites and medpacks like there's no tomorrow for 5 minutes would be slightly weaker than a marine fresh out of MS.

Perhaps instead of a nanite system there could be a marine repairing system where a marine essentially gives his suit of armour to another marine. The second marine can repair the armour, perhaps with a vial of "nanites" in his pocket, and gives the repaired armour back to the first marine a few seconds later. This can even be done alone by the first marine themself, but requires more time.

    That's just my two cents <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Regen is an alien thing IMHO, it's a pretty rambo-ish feature for marines which is why it only fits in Combat. Buildings maybe, but I'd prefer that just remain asymmetrical.

Ye, the present system has a lot of interesting features that the regen would remove.

It would be interesting to see some kind of adrenaline injection option be available. So they recieve a temporary boost in speed, damage reduction or something similar. And as a possible sideeffect will have some minor blindness or hearing issues issued if overused or when it's about to wear off. (Other random idea, is to make huds toggably transparent. Or to see your items through your helmet if you're a marine. Along with switching visor modes, ie: infra-red, nightvision, etc.)

As for the nano repair idea, I suppose it could be used with or instead of the shield option for structures. Ie: It repairs the shield, but not the hull of any structure. Alternatively, it can replace the shield altogether, giving it the same HP overall but repairs it after time. Making structures as fragile as usual but able to take a beating over time, rather than needing a welding team to show up everytime a Kharaa takes a bite out of it. I'm unsure whether that would be a viable suggestion, though.

I know that, I mean an upgrade so you don't have to rely on the Commander to personally drop them and can just upgrade it at the armoury. This was probably more of an idea for NS 2, but meh.

It may skew some of the game numbers,
the most important of these of course is the lerk spore.
Spore does 7dmg every .5s (approx) of which ~5 of it goes into armor at a loss of ~2.5 armor/.5s, it could seriously cushion the blow on this ability.

That being said Spore and focus combos in the middle and late game are absolutely devastating, and the logistics required to combat them are tricky at best <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

A small armor regen at this stage of the game wouldn't affect the fight combos but would give the marines a little more staying/pushing power in open/long duration fights.
It could even help to make armor upgrades more useful/cost effective vs a sensory chamber alien team (in the late game).

Personally I think it would be a nice addition if it were added in the tier2 adv / tier3 tech tree, as either an upgrade or even an innate ability of a3 (or even a2 lol)

Now that I've said my bit I'd like to point out, this is the wrong forum for it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> and also since coding has finished on NS1 your only chance of getting it implemented is via plugin <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
