Nanite Building?

and then the nanites all in that region gather and build up the base of the building,
so the marines then "can build it"....
(a plain animation build into the model)

I think that this would be cool to see <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />




oh and just while writing this I got another idea^^
building on the upper idea....

Some special "generators" or something like that could be spread out over the map
and if the marines weld,activate,whatever the "generators"....the more nanites are there for building
so the "basic building" gets done faster.... (like the "spawntime" lowers)

    Hmm, my take on this idea is that 'ghost' buildings start as a virtual blueprint; then when marines 'build', the nanites in the region converge and build the physical building.

    Although that would make them (untouched ghost buildings) invisible to aliens, so..

    I think you're referring to a completion animation. i.e. the ghost building means it hasn't been started, but progressively more of the ghost building becomes real, indicating completion.

    Besides being visual eye candy, I'm not sure what else this would provide except that it would allow the health bar to be displayed instead of the building completion bar, which would be handy. Sometimes you don't know how much health is left on that barely uncompleted building. This would also help show more readily the completion level.

    Overall, I kinda like it as long as the animations don't bog down my computer. Perhaps only a few stages of completion, like the Marine buildings in StarCraft.

    As far as generators to decrease building time, I don't like them. I do enjoy secondary objectives, but typically the building time isn't that long as it is (assuming there's not a huge extension of building time in NS2). Also, would they be capturable by the Aliens to increase their build speed? Perhaps if the bonus is relatively small and it can change hands, I would support them.
