<div class="IPBDescription">Uplink MMO</div><img src="http://www.slavehack.com/layout/top.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<a href="http://www.slavehack.com" target="_blank">http://www.slavehack.com</a>

If you've ever played Uplink, you know how fun fantasy hacking can be. Slavehack is along the same idea, but this time is actually MMO. It is a web-based MMO game, where you can hack other player's computers and install viruses, or hack banks and steal money from people's bank accounts.

I consider it to be a rather well made game though it is rather unforgiving. There are no restrictions other than a 60 minute "newbie protection" when you first start the game. After that, anyone is fair game.

So join the game, play it for an hour and see if you like it.
If you don't like it, it's only an hour wasted. If you do like it, it's a free game that will always be free.

My name in the game is <i>CatinHat</i>, if you are playing and come across my name, let me know!
If you buy an e-mail account in the game (only costs virtual money), you can send me an e-mail at "<i>CatinHat</i>" as well.

    Haha.

This game can be frustrating at first when you have low level programs or if some ###### decides to delete everything on your HD, but it gets really fun when you start finding better programs and having a long list of slaves.

I happened upon a max level waterwall (lets you through firewalls), and a max level password cracker... I could get into and infect anyone! And all bank accounts were mine to hack, it only took 1 minute and was normally successful the first time.

Unfortunately someone deleted that waterwall. I'm downloading one from my friend right now which isn't QUITE as good, but is still good enough to get most anywhere.

This morning was ridiculous though, I went and camped the logs in the bank and saw two transfers, one for about 52,000 and one for 70,000. I watched a bit longer and saw the 70,000 one get transferred again to another account.

I went and cracked the passwords, transferred it into some random guy's bank account that i have a password for, and then transferred it from there into my account. Spent it all as fast as I could, and reset my IP. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

I like getting lucky in this game.

There are 774.96 euros in that account, it is one of my old bank accounts.
Be careful to not let your IP and Bank Account get logged. Other then that, enjoy the free cash.

I used to play this, have a 4.5 waterwall and 27,000 in my bank accounts. I believe I'm saving up for a better internet connection.

What's the max software level now days?

    I believe it's 5.

I almost had a 5 waterwall, firewall, and password hacker... someone deleted my waterwall just as the firewall finished downloading... so I lost the waterwall, and couldn't download the firewall. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I have a 4.5 waterwall now and a 5.0 cracker. I'll probably be getting a 3-4 firewall tomorrow or sunday.

(Tomorrow I have to go to my cousin's graduation party, eww.)

My current goal is to get a Group server to backup stuff.

I played for a while. was fun. I got banned for multi-accounting I think though -_- even though I only used like 1 backup server =P

This has got to be the worst web-browser RPG I have ever seen in my life. Not that any web-browser RPG would be good in the first place.

Haha, I guess that means you guys don't like it.

I've never had timeout problems personally, though I did hate it the first day I played.
Told my friend "okay, I quit, this is a terrible game", and then the next day for some reason started playing again.

The game play mechanics are not the standard that people are used to, and the game is very unforgiving and can be very frustrating...

So I guess the end of the story is, this game grew on me.

    a couple notes about slavehack-

1.You can do something else while you're playing. Start a download, do something else for the 5-15(if it's more you should seriously consider getting a new internet connection) it takes. Only time you can't do this is if you're camping the logs of a computer, which is usually fun enough to not need to do something else.

    2.It's really addictive.

3.I imagine the low level(software level below 1.0) areas can be really irritating now with high level griefing. Once you get past 1 there aren't many people until close to 5. Might need to restart a few times to get there though.

4.You can find the IPs for everything by using google(slave hack riddle trail should find them). If you don't feel like solving the riddles then just copying the IPs from there will get you to 5.0 eventually.
Unless you get a really high level waterwall somehow, you'll still have to hack the computers in order because the firewalls get better too. Also, you'll need to stop and make money somewhere because basic harddrives/internet connections can't support the higher level softwares(My 4.5 waterwall is 4.3 GBs)

All very true. 1 is one of the main reasons I like this game. I actually can be productive and play a game all day.
    2 must be true too then <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

On the subject of 4, I really think that playing this game the way it's "meant to be played" is the wrong way to play. Following the riddle trails is not fun at all. I have much more fun staying off public servers for the most part and just hacking other players. I got the better programs a hell of a lot faster that way, and with a whole lot less risk.

The most annoying thing in this game is that you can't backup your waterwall without paying an enormous amount for the 5 gig external, and then you can ONLY back up that waterwall (if you have the level 5 one)

That's why I am saving to buy a group server. Anyone who plays this game and wants to contribute to the cause will be welcome to use the GS as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

When I last played a few months ago I could never find any real players of appropriate level. They either had nothing good or their firewall was too high.

Only been playing this since this morning. But it seems like a short term solution is to find someone on these forums that despises the game. Have them make an account and give out the IP. Then the rest of us can use that server as a backup. Seeing as how local storage is WAY cheaper than external.

So, I've been playing for like an hour, and apparently my game is already over.

I did the tutorial, and soon after that I got all my files deleted etc. I download my backups, but they keep getting deleted. Yeah, the game was interesting for the 45 minutes I got to play it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

You need to change your IP(go to my computer). Alternatively just make a new account and try and move faster during the period when you can't be hacked.
If you do make a new account, change your IP after you get out of the grace period anyway; people have it.

If anyone is starting out and wants a tiny nudge (only playing since this morning). Give me your ip and I'll upload my stuff to ya. Ever since I got a 0.8 firewall I've been getting griefed a lot less.

ive only tried getting into a bank account once, do you really need a high brute force thing? or does it just make it easier?

any other tips for someone starting out?

is internet a good thing to upgrade first or is it more worthwhile to wait and get a really fast internet?

Quick Response: Group Server is useful to back up software in case you get deleted.

    Hahahah, I got DDoSed. I don't knwo why, someone must have got annoyed with me. Now I'm down to a 39 Mbit internet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Hmm, I thought I'd be done for in the morning, but apparently not. I had just one spam virus on my 'puter, and most of my slaves (bwhahaha) had deleted my virii. Does it mean that all the money they made during the night are gone now, or can I still collect the money they made until they were deleted?

    [edit] Okay, I had only one VISIBLE virus on my puter <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> . I got an antivirus-program, and it deleted close to ten virii <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I forget whether you can still collect from slaves that have cleaned your virus... but one bit of wisdom I have is that, if you have a big hard drive such that other people's viruses aren't keeping you from downloading anything new, it's usually best to just leave them alone rather than clean them.

let's say I had your IP address, installed a virus to make money, and left everything alone. Then you cleaned my virus. What would I do? Well, I would still want to make money off your IP, so I would go back to your computer, reinstall my virus, and delete your antivirus and waterwall to make sure you couldn't re-clean my virus. and nobody wants that to happen...

so, my big gripe is that it seems to be just about impossible to retaliate against some one griefing you.

I have caught 2 people in the act of trashing my stuff, got both their IPs, etc etc, but I can't DO anything against them. Hell, I can't even go "pull my plug and disconnect them"

oh well, one of these IPs (forgot which one) is one of them:

i saw 2 people log into my comp, so i just went and deleted their waterwall and anything else that would take a long time to download again. the firewall files are especially big. i made sure to clean off my ip so they didnt know it was me, but i havent seen them come back.

i also made 1k last night from my dozen spammers!

Someone cleaned my bank account last night. I would've gotten a better internet connection this morning (the first update). I guess I'd be better off trying to learn this stuff on the SH-forums, but... Does collecting money from slaves leave a log entry in the bank, too? And can someone access it by cracking the banks Admin-account and without finding my account number before it?

Though it's possible that someone saw my bank account information in my logs before I managed to delete them.
