I really want oblivion, but I'm terrified of spending the money, then hating it.

We all know you really just don't want to give money to the capitalist oppressors.

Some people like it and some people don't. You really need interface mods to play it on the PC though.

If you liked morrowwind for the open endedness you'll like oblivion for the same reasons. Some of the spells, like levitation, were taken out. That's why I suggested mods because user mods add tons of content.

TA-Spring (A remake of Total Annihilation, very good and free. Lots of online play as well)
EvE-Online (MMO, 14 day free trial. Very steep learning curve/ very open. However it IS an MMO)

Okay I caved. I'm going to buy oblivion off Direct 2 Drive because I don't want to interact with humans. What do I get though, I assume the game+shivering is all I need, whats this knights of the nine shenanigans?
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
Knights of the Nine and the other downloadable content consist of little addons for the game. Knights is actually rather large. They're fun but a lot of user made mods are almost as good, and those are free.

Oblivion is hilarious. Probably one of the funniest games I've ever played. I wouldn't recommend playing it alone, seems difficult to get immersed.

It's a lot like WoW but the players are replaced by buggy AI. In theory, the interactions between NPCs could be cool, but mostly they go like this:

    "Hello."
    "Hello."
"Have you heard of the hero from Kvatch?"
    "No."
    "Goodbye."
    "Goodbye."

I watched a friend play it and we heckled the whole way through, it was great. Can't imagine playing it seriously though. Truly bugs are the best part of Oblivion.

There's always dwarf fortress if you have a good attention span and plenty of time to waste. And no adversity to steep learning curves.
