<u><!--sizeo:5--><span style="font-size:18pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->FAQ<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--></u>

<b>What the fruck is this?</b>
It's a Korean Starcraft tournament featuring 16 of the best players in Korea (and therefore the world). For those that don't know, Starcraft in Korea takes a whole different meaning as it is the most developed esport by far on the planet. (You can forget the CPL, World Cyber Games etc..). There are established leagues running televised matches <i>every single day</i>, bitter rivalries between players and teams, eye-boggling sponsorship deals, crowds of screaming fan girls at every match and incredible displays of pure.gaming.skill.

<b>So what's with the sudden topic then? What's so special about this tournament?</b>
For the first time, GOMTV (one of the two major Starcraft broadcasters) has decided to stream the games live with <b> english commentary</b>. They have invested $1,000,000 in order to ensure the support of up to 40,000 concurrent viewers on the Internet. The esports scene in Korea has always been very self-contained with little care towards fans and players of esports internationally. This tournament and the major investment from GOMTV is somewhat of landmark in allowing Korean esports to reach out on an international scale. If, like me, you are a fan esports, then you'll know that allowing the investment, organisation, enthusiasm, dedication and emotion of Korean esports to be exposed internationally is a really positive step for esports in general.

<b>I played Starcraft/Warcraft for a bit. It sucked.</b>
I pity you! But seriously, even if you have little knowledge of game or the players, the english commentator for the games is really good at getting newbie spectators up to speed. (He's had lots of practice at WCGs...) If your past experience of Starcraft is negative, please have a go at watching this. I'm confident that you'll be converted.

    I'll check this out if I get home in time. 40,000 seems small in intertube terms. Mirrors?

    do you have to tune in at a certain time to watch them, or will they be recorded and posted so that we can watch them any time?

    I really doubt I'm gonna bother to tune in at a specific time, but once some good games are recorded, I'd love to watch a couple on my own time =p

    There will definitely be downloadable VODs up after the games. However, I am not 100% sure whether these will have English commentary. Will let you know if I find out more info.

    I personally think 40,000 is really ambitious. Although there is an extremely loyal core of non-Korean Starcraft fans, I'd be amazed if there were even 10,000 specs... (Korean spectator numbers are obviously a different story...)

    I remember we used to watch this and comment on a NS-SC IRCchannel. It was really fun and I've never played StarCraft and didn't know what was going on most of the time but it's easy to spot rape if you've never had the pleasure of experiencing it yourself.

    Hah, that was AGES ago. I distinctly remember some guy crying after he lost some racing game they played on a show that would come on after the SC battles.

    I will be tuning into this for sure.

    Oops, yes its 9AM.

    If people are reading this and would like to watch the game, please post here if you'd like a summary of any elements of the tourny. So that makes it 4:00 AM EST. I guess I won't be watching this right away. I may try to find a torrent later.

    Never figured AM of PM out, FM neither for that matter.

    24 hour scale clock whatever for the win

    Gmt is a 24h scale, but there are 25 time zones ranging from +12 to -12.

    Eastern is GMT-5
    and
    Pacific is GMT-8

    So 9:00 AM GMT would be 1:00 AM pacific and 4:00 AM eastern.

    24h time scale.

    0:00 or 24:00 midnight snack
    6:00 breakfast
    12:00 dinner
    18:00 lunch

    Then
    0:00 to 11:59 is AM
    and
    12:00 to 23:59 is PM

    Then you double scale everything. So AM stays the same and PM goes like this: 12:00 1:00 2:00 3:00 4:00 5:00 ... 11:59 PM

    And what the hell is FM (besides a radio standard?)

    WTB some f'ing facial expressions so I can tell who won when they show their faces after the match. Srsly.

    I think they've played so much that they're used to winning/losing it's no big deal for them anymore, thus the lack of any facial expressions <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    He's doing a bang up job. Wicked sense of humour and explains the games well.

    Wish he wouldn't spam around the map though, rapid screen changes and my hangover make it a bit brutal to watch.

    I'm pretty sure you're right. In normal Korean televised matches, there are 3 commentators and 1 in-game observer. The observer (obviously) controls the camera, 1 commentator does the play-by-play, 1 does the deeper analysis/stats and the other one makes noises when stuff happens. lol.

    <i>Since there seems to be some interest in this, I'll go ahead and post a little intro into Group B: The Group of Death. Keep in mind I'm by no means an expert.</i>

    <b><!--sizeo:5--><span style="font-size:18pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->GOMTV Star Invitational GROUP B<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--></b>
    <u>
    <!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->The Players<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--></u>

    <b>n.die.Jaedong</b> - <!--coloro:#8B0000--><span style="color:#8B0000"><!--/coloro-->ZERG<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
    <img src="http://gsi.gomtv.com/img/player_img14.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    Jaedong is currently on absolutely dominating form. He is the favourite of the tournament as he has been consistently demolishing anyone he comes up against for the past two months. Previously thought of as a ZvZ one match-up wonder, his ZvP and ZvT games are also now top-notch. Having said that, Jaedong has lost two very high-profile games this week against Terrans so maybe he is starting to slump...

    <b>Much[gm]</b> - <!--coloro:#2E8B57--><span style="color:#2E8B57"><!--/coloro-->PROTOSS<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
    <img src="http://gsi.gomtv.com/img/player_img13.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    Nicknamed, "Grandfather Toss" because he looks roughly five times the age of everyone else, Much's game has also been solid in the past month. Although prone to testing quirky build-orders in major games, he has lots of experience under his belt.

    <b>[ReD]Nada</b> - <!--coloro:#4169E1--><span style="color:#4169E1"><!--/coloro-->TERRAN<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
    <img src="http://gsi.gomtv.com/img/player_img02.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    The most successful SC player in history (in terms of major league wins) and a veteran of the SC scene, Nada is one of the best Terrans in this tournament. His consistent insane 400 APM (Actions per Minute) allows him to display incredible micro as well as maintaining solid macro.

    <b>SlayerS_BoxeR</b> - <!--coloro:#4169E1--><span style="color:#4169E1"><!--/coloro-->TERRAN<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
    <img src="http://gsi.gomtv.com/img/player_img01.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    Undoubtedly the most famous SC player in history, Boxer, or 'The Emperor', used to dominate anyone who dared cross his path. His pure passion for SC is unrivaled and he has given over $200,000 of his own winnings back into the SC community. His reign, although mighty, inevitably crumbled under the much despised killer of pro-gamers - Korean national service. Although most SC fans secretly hope for Boxer to claim another title, the reality is that his skills have deteriorated significantly due to lack of practice while in the air force.

    Don't rule him out though! He has the most scary "cheese" strategies and if anything, he always tries to please the crowd with an exciting game.

    <u><!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->Predictions<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--></u>

    <i> More ">" means more rape</i>

    <b>Game 1: Jaedong (Z) > NaDa (T) </b>
    Very hard to call. I would love for Nada to win (as I hate all Zergs!) but I don't see it happening even with the recent blips in Jaedong's ZvT.

    <b>Game 2: Much (P) >>> NaDa (T)</b>
    I have to talk about the map here. Katrina has come to be renowned as heavily favouring protoss in PvT. We will probably see a quick expansion from Much, holding the fort with Zealots and Dragoons until Carriers kick the crap out of everything. Sorry Nada, not your fault.

    <b>Game 3: Much (P) << BoxeR (T)</b>
    I smell some classic Boxer cheese. If the game goes on too long, Boxer's lack of practice will create fatal cracks in his macro.. but I don't think Boxer will let it get that far.

    <b>Game 4: Jaedong (Z) >>>> BoxeR (T)</b>
    In possibly the best player of the tournament coming up against the worst player, I'm predicting rape. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    <b>Game 5: Jaedong (Z) > Much (P)</b>
    I believe this will be a very close game but Jaedong will win it.

    <b>Game 6: NaDa (T) < BoxeR (T)</b>
    Strangely hard to call. Boxer has pretty good TvT stats for this season, although he is against Mr Monster APM.

    <i>Hope you all tune in tomorrow! Thanks for reading.</i>
