Help!
Haha alright this game's awesome. I first played it right around the time when HL2 came out and I got it free since I got valve's whole back catalogue.

Anyways I played it a ton back then (to the exclusion of HL2 funnily enough) and just started playing again. I was never very good but I don't remember being THIS bad.

Seriously. I love the Alien side but I just have trouble processing things fast enough or something. I'll typically have a kill/death ratio of like 4/20 by the end of the game no joke. Anyways... when I'm rushing a marine as a skulk foe example I'll miss the marine completely half the time or get one bite and then fly past. Moves so freaking quickly I can't keep track of where my target is and by the time I spot him again I'm dead.

Then I see other skulks jumping all over the place dodging bullets and managing to land right on a marine's face I just don't see how they do it...

I do slightly better with fade, but still I have trouble reacting quickly enough when I'm flying around. I can't see how the top players on the servers fly up, get a bite in JUST THE RIGHT SPOT with just the right timing and then zoom off again.

Normally I'm pretty good at your typical FPS, especially the "realistic" variety (anybody play Red Orchestra?) but this game just has me on my knees haha.

Any tips??

Well there's one of your problems - now that you've read this, never rush a marine again.

It's probably nothing to do with your reaction time - more likely you're not positioning yourself in accordance with your class's unique abilities, but instead blindly charging in without thinking and dying as a result.

    See sig for tips.

As a fade, use the +movement feature. Bind it to an easy to access key and you'll be able to blink around without changing weapon, making it easier to hit a marine then zoom off quickly. (+movement also executes leap as a 2 hive skulk, and charge as a 3 hive onos)

Try playing with the alien 'flashlight' turned on. It helps some players to track the marine movement.

Practice makes perfect. The good players have been playing this game for years.

How do I do this? Where's the feature?

For skulks, pay mind to the distance between you and the marine. The better the marine, the less distance they need to kill you, and any long hallway is bad business for melee aliens. Also, when you approach a marine do it from unusual angles or at high speeds. Against decent players you have to not make noise if you want to hit from an unusual angle because they have mastered the skill of Using The Ears To Hear Skulks (unusually rare in pub games).

As fade, bind mouse2 +movement and bind +popupmenu to something else. Oh and never walk.

Oh and learn to bunny hop.

Oh and find good players and drill on faceoff. Celerity vs resupply...

Oh and learn to wall hop.

Oh and practice all the time.

It's automatically assigned to whatever your reload key is.

However you can bind it to any other key you like (eg. type bind "MOUSE2" +movement in the console - I use the right mouse button as mine.)
