Probably should set a specific time for this so that we can plan it.

You can add me if there's a problem getting enough players. Also, timezone matters a bit, GMT +2 here.

    <b>A few questions for T h e m:</b> <i>followed by some self-important demands! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /></i>

<b> 1.</b> In your playtests did anyone actually scoutrush? (I.e. more than 1 scout rushing to cap the middle CP, and pushing back the enemy respawn points while ALSO increasing their respawn times.) I mean, GravelPit is particularly prone to Scout rushes and it's virtually impossible to setup a level 2 SG before they've got to the penultimate flag.

<b>2.</b> Have Valve considered setting default class limits or are they leaving that entirely to the server ops? Scout rushing, soldier spamming and medic chaining are all obvious exploits in the gameplay that really don't require any skill. Some default limits would at least keep the average vanilla server noob-friendly.

Also... 15 second respawn times and average 7-10 minute round times... W T H? I swear almost every round I play goes to Sudden Death and almost every Sudden Death I play ends in a campout. Is this how TF2 was designed? Or will Valve actually consider reducing spawn times and increasing round times? Even if spawn times were only slightly increased, or better still have spawn times on a rolling scale dependant on how many players are in-game, because just a pair of Scouts can get to and cap 2 points before a team (or the competant players in a team) can respawn.

But perhaps the best option is to have TF2 follow the DoD respawn wave format. As it currently stands, every player who dies has to wait 15 seconds to respawn (note: less if you're winning!!!??!??!??). In DoD respawn waves are scheduled for 15 (for example) seconds after the first person in a team dies, with every subsequent death in that 15s period joining that respawn wave. This has massive benefits for teamplay, e.g.:
    - new players spawn with other teammates and can follow them to where the action's at
    - teammates reinforce in numbers, which considering a lot of TF2 classes are interdependant, would be a very good thing
    - you don't ALWAYS have to wait the maximum amount of time to respawn, which if you're losing (and at your most frustrated) is probably going to be a whopping 15 seconds (JOY)

Now let's look at the round times: I'd say it takes an average of 10-20 seconds to reach the battleline, and taking this into account the average lifespan for the average player on an average size server is probably around 60-90 seconds. Add to this 'play time' the respawn time of 15 seconds, and you get a 'lifecycle' of 75-105s:

Longer round, longer lifecycle: 600s round {divided by} 105s lifecycle = ~5.7 lives; 14% of time spent dead
Shorter round, shorter lifecycle: 420s round {divided by} 75s lifecycle = 5.4 lives; 20% of time spent dead

So even if we generously round up to 6 and take the upper end of the round timer (10 minutes), that's <i>six to eight</i> lives you get per round. What's worse is that the average player spends 1 out of every 5 minutes in TF2 dead, which I find particularly tedious.

    ---

To conclude: Increase round times, I assure you my attention span can take it. Secondly, change spawning to the DoD model at the very least.

[Edit] It's possible that TF2 uses the DoD model but the massive spawn locations with multiple laberynthine corridors and exits disguise this fact, however my gut impression is that it doesn't.

Also, make maps change more frequently. The maps got old quickly when each server required nearly 30 minutes for a map change.

I also noticed a weird bug-like occurrence when I Alt-Tabbed and came back into the game. I would come back, and there would just be a variety of classes around and they'd just ragdoll. My "kill window" kept saying something like NULLNUMBER instead of the player names. It only happens for a couple seconds so it's not game breaking.

    Concerning sudden death:

Dispensers, Medi-Guns and Sentry Guns should not working in sudden death will result in no campout and quicker Sds <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    Concerning Class-Balance:

We need to ability to limit classes (mainly Engis and Spies)

Pyros flamethrower range is pathetic as soon as the pyro moves forward, making him more of an defensive class on CTF maps. On CP maps you can use him to walk into the cap zone and spray death.

Sniper seem to be too ping dependent.

Why can spies basically perma-zap a sentry? I "demand" that after being zapped a building should be unzappable for 10 seconds or the spies ability to permazap needs to be limited otherwise (max 3 recharging zappers?)

    Rest feels well balanced.

    Concerning the censored german version:

I actually like the unicycle and the rubberduck, but when it zooms in on a rubberduck and tells me that this is my torso something is wrong. There is no hit indication, because there is no blood. While I dont really mind the lack of blood, I really hate not being able to tell whether I hit someone or not. Overall the whole censorship issue has been discussed to death so I wont repeat it, but it should be clear that players should not be at an gameplay disadvantage because of their IP address!

Agreed completely. Either give it a cooldown or put in a recharge after so and so many uses. I'd say 3-5 uses, then you'll need to recharge it.

Only deep water blocks pyros fire. Personally, I think the pyro is fine as long as you play it on defense. Torch a Heavy from behind and he will get disorientated and likely die or be seriously crippled.

I've added you american folks, no matter if the server has 200ping for me.

P.S. What determines critical hits? They seem utmost random but I swear I've seen people anticipate them.

on the subject of crit hits, it seems like headshots always give critical hits. you might also have a chance of getting a critical hit from hitting other places too but im not sure.

    I wouldn't bet on that.

I was standing next to a sniper yesterday, with my shotgun out and my cross hair was on his head. No critical hit. Not even one.

Sniper headshots are crits but other than that the crit thing is a random chance that figures in "momentum," I believe, which is how many kills in a row you've gotten. It's still possible to get crits without any kills in a row, since it's all mostly random anyways. I don't think scouts cap those points too fast or anything; all you really need to do is shoot them or stand on the point or both. I mean a scout is going to have trouble taking a point if a pyro's there. Let's see you dodge a continuous stream of fire! I thought so.

if we're talking about attacking people from behind, might as well be a spy... and if you touch someone from behind, pretty much any class can 1 to 3 shot someone with their melee weapon...
