Neato.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->After his armored hulk slammed into the ground, we were able to approach the Sister. This part made us a little uncomfortable, as the girl was clambering wildly backwards in fear, whimpering. We approached anyway and were prompted with options to spare or kill her, which affects the amount of Adam extracted. We chose to move in for the kill to get maximum Adam, and were treated to a brutal death scene. The actual moment the girl died happened off-screen which in no way lessened the disturbing effect.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Is it wrong that this was one of the most interesting parts of the article for me?

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->It should be noted that unlike in System Shock 2, you can't store food items in an inventory; they're consumed when picked up. In fact, there really isn't an inventory at all. Health and EVE hypodermic needles are stored up and can be quick-used, but there's no slot-based inventory where you stick weapons, items, plasmid power ups, and the like. Instead, the game provides a bunch of separate radial menus for selecting weapons and abilities. This is part of the reason why playing BioShock feels more like an FPS than an RPG, so we stand finally corrected from our earlier impressions. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I am saddened.

I'm not. The last thing I want in an FPS is fiddling with an inventory. One of the things that's kept me from SS2.

I hope that the scripted sequences are somewhat random because I don't want to see a crashing plane in the beginning every single time I start over again. Fortunately it looks like the game is very open-ended, so we'll see about it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

From what I've seen from stuff like System Shock 2 is that you have to delve into you inventory in the middle of combat, stopping your movement, and using things like hyposprays or equipping weapons. Looked like fail interface.

Exploder: I'd assume stuff like that are always-witnessed events of the story/setting. It is your own plane, if I read correctly.

I thought they decided you wouldn't be able to kill the little sisters, only 'harvest' them somehow...

Or, you could just use the keys 1 - ´ to equip weapons, and other shortcuts to use medkits / hypos.

What's so special about the inventory system, then? Aside from having to occasionally create a hidey-hole of stuff to come back around to later due to inventory overflow.

They die when you harvest them. What they meant was you can't just shoot them with a shotgun or something. That's partially because they kept dying in the crossfire and partially because they didn't want to be on Prime Time News Channels as "THE CHILD MURDER SIMULATION GAME."

I was 90% sure I was going to pick this up; after watching that new IGN video, I'm 110% sure. I'm really getting a Fallout vibe from this game for a lot of different reasons, like the art deco atmosphere, the collapse of the society, and some other stuff (watch the end of the video for instance), plus of course the System Shock 2 influences. I'm so pumped; everything about it looks like what I would have imagined in my wildest dreams. An awesome art deco atmosphere, crazy graphics with really cool water effects, interesting enemies and a super deep story with a cool Ayn Rand objectivist twist, killing children, etc.

Yeah, same. Now that I'm 110% sure I'm buying it, I don't need any more hype. I'll just sit back and wit for the game to come out.

I just wanted some confirmation that is, indeed, well-handling. Confirmation of dynamic AI, interesting gameplay, atmospheric setting? Check, check, check. Epic game potential is high.

the gamers-with-jobs article described the project as Icarian - and I couldn't put it better. I hope it doesn't fly too close to the sun and wind up sucking. I hope the same thing about Spore. =p

Meh, it'd boost sales and it'd be fun. There will be a mod for it anyway.

I'll miss the inventory, it kinda felt more immersing having to sort through your crap and drop the apple juice so you could hold the shotgun shells you just stumbled upon. It gave the game a definite survivor feel.

It's definately way too early for Vista-only games to be released. Maybe it'll have some graphics features only capable with DX10, but by no means will be it be DX10 exclusive.

I bet my cat on it (the one with the hump).

Shadowrun, Halo 2, anything that wants to play online with 360.

Exactly. I wanted to check out the Shadowrun demo, but then I heard it was Vista only. And I'm trying to stay away from Vista as long as I can.

There's only three games that you can play online with 360 users on the PC. And none of them are interesting.

Okay...then pretend that I said <i>Vista</i> exclusive instead (so 360 ports don't count). Halo 2 doesn't even -need- DX10...I can only imagine that it will be Vista-required because Microsoft want to a) make it look better and b) sell Vista.

But Irrational Games have nothing to do with Microsoft, so unless they are in some kind of contractual agreement with each other, releasing Bioshock on Vista only would be a bad move for them because they would lose out on probably more than 80% of their potential customers. That is, unless Bioshock is still a whole year away before being released - but I don't believe it is.
