I remember drinking bawls some evening and not sleeping at all in bed.

I like the taste, but a big bowl of cereal makes me awake. That nature valley stuff is too good.

Drinks... I think waters okay. I like juice and none of that high fructose stuff. But then too much juice gives me acid in my stomach...

I like green tea. Arizona is okay, but it has fructose syrup.

My friend had this to say about Bawls: "Bawls f***s you up... but in a good way."

I think that pretty much sums it up.

My "coding fuel", for when I've got an assignment due the next day and I'm having trouble concentrating at 02:00, is red bull. I like the taste and it's almost got a bite when it's nearly frozen. The effect it has on me is probably half psychological, but it gets the job done.

At work I drink no more than two cups of coffee a day, the first one no earlier than 10:30. I put two scoops of hot chocolate powder in a coffee with two sugars and milk. Once I finish my cup of coffee I half-fill it with water and put it in the freezer. I take it out at about lunchtime, punch through the ice with a knife and drink the deliciously chilled water inside. I keep a water bottle at my desk to top it up. I keep topping it up until all the ice is melted, then I put it back in the freezer. At the end of the day I 1/3 fill it and put it in the freezer overnight, so when I get to work at 0900 the next day I have a big chunk of ice to keep it cold.

Downside: I pee a lot. Like four times a day.

    Choose your poison.

I mostly drink milk and rarely energy drinks, unless you count coca cola or apple cider. The few places I drink energy drinks are on LANs and then it's Jolt Cola to go.

I used to drink a lot of Monster until I realized I was wasting my money..

I now usually drink coffee every day. Normal coffee at work, sometimes I'll stop at a coffeeshop for a cappuccino, mocha, or something like that.

Energy drinks don't hold a candle to continuously drawing from an active pot of coffee.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    ditto

i was into Red Bull for a while, really into it, tried to have at least a few a day.

then i got onto coffee, which i'm into now, black, hot, and strong. it's essentially a more conventional and accepted energy drink.

recently i've been getting "red eye" drinks from starbucks and elsewhere; it's a standard cup of drip with a shot of espresso in it for good caffeinated measure. highly recommended for those who love the buzz

side note: i've replaced soda entirely with water and coffee (coffee stimulates more strongly than soda) and somehow in that conversion lost about 10-13 pounds on that diet-change merit alone

I simply try my hardest to get between 8-9h of sleep every night. If I need to stay up a little longer, tea is my energy drink of choice. Healthy, tasty, comes in many flavors... I don't see why anyone would prefer those crazy sugar caffeine bombs. I also prefer the buzz tea provides, it feels smoother and more long-lasting than even coffee which just makes my body twitchy and my mind no more awake.

So, by reading the replies to this thread, it seems that you overreact a bit. Believe it or not, I do drink things other than energy drinks...

I drink lots f water as a matter of fact, and have at least 1 full glass of milk. I only really go for energe drinks when I'll be getting less than 5 hours of sleep (which honestly is quite frequent...), else I just drink coffee or tea, especially when it's cold outside.

If I pull an all-nighter, Spike is my favorite study aid, it keeps me awake, and helps me focus to a limited extent.

I'm also in perfect health, I have my blood drawn every 6 months to have a variety of tests run on it, and according to the results, I'm in perfect health (besides being diabetic). I ride my bike several miles a week, less so recently though because I haven't had the time to do so.

Point is though, that It's not like I only drink caffeinated things, I like them, but they are not all I drink.

I drink tea, but I get no buzz off of it what so ever. Or soda. Or... anything. I still fall asleep. caffeine just doesn't help me. ><! I feel like a limp little turd when I stay up way too late and sixteen gallons of rainbow cow couldn't fix it.
  • MantridMantrid Lockpick Join Date: 2003-12-07 Member: 24109Members
Coffee. A hot mug of black coffee every morning after I drag myself out of the shower. If I don't have it, chances are very good that I will fall asleep during the day. If I go about a week without my morning coffee, I get very tired and cranky.

I'm only 16 and I've already cultivated a nice little addiction for myself!

Anything with antioxidants and no sugar is "healthier" than water, depending on what you mean. A good diet for you health has to include a lot of stuff, and avoid much else. Water is so great because it's got no bad stuff at all, and you need a lot of it.

Sugar increases your blood insulin very rapidly, and insulin in high amounts causes a pre-stadium form of free radicals to develop. Sugar and other simple carbohydrates thus increases the amount of inflammation. Inflammation is good when you're fighting infections (that's why you get red and sore when you got a local infection on your skin), but it's bad for everything else in the body. Free radicals wears out your cells. Even though our body is good fighting them, it can only take so much before it does minor damage around your body.

Tea (especially green tea) coffee (preferably filtered), dark chocolate (the sugar in the chocolate is bad, the cocoa is very good), wine (red wine has a lot of good flavenoids!), walnuts, blueberries etc. - all of these are good sources of antioxidants able to fight free radicals.

Another great way to fight free radicals is to keep your insulin level stable/moderately low.

Different kinds of juices are great, they have the <b>same</b> advantages as the fruits themselves, except possibly less amount of fibers, depending on the juice and the way it's made. The only disadvantage with juices are that they have some sugar, but usually FAR less than any soda, and it comes with so much other good stuff that it outweighs that.

Energy drinks that contain huge amounts of sugars is not good, but as long as you only do it <b>once in a long while</b> , you shouldn't worry to much. I don't have data on the stimulants other than sugar, though.

I should really cite some source for all this stuff, but I've got most of this from studying biology, where my one professor in molecular biology kept insisting that we students stay away from simple carbohydrates (like sugar). If you're interested in healthy diet, be careful where you get your information from, trust only scientific sources. (E.g. not me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> )

A balanced diet should have 40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins, 30% fat. Yes, you need a lot of fat. Fat is a better source of energy than simple carbohydrates, as long as you avoid transfat and try to avoid to much saturated fat.

But I enjoy yerba maté in tea form also.

I love espressos and americanos (with whip cream), but I find that most coffee makes me jittery. Tea is what I use when I have to keep going for days.

I find energy drinks are great for physical exercise, but I cannot use them to focus on thinking. energy drinks + booze = party, 2L iced green tea + deck = laptop love

btw scythe, i love how refined your technique is. ~: )
