Just replace "The Two Towers" with "300" and you'll get the picture of how much I want to see this movie.

As much as I want to see it, I never go to the movies alone. And my friends are busy as hell right now. So I must wait!

    Looks great though.

I'm excited, the visuals look incredible from the trailer but there so much hype I'm afraid the story won't be able to live up to the art. Also, will the entire movie be in slow motion?

No, but I think there wil be lots of it. I'd rather have an overabundance of slomo than fight scenes that look like the kind from Batman Begins, where you have no idea what's going on except that there's some kind of fast-paced struggle.

I'm not a big fan of slow motion. There was no slow motion in the comics! Why do they feel like they need to add it now? Return of the King would have been about an hour shorter if they had put all the slow motion scenes at a normal pace, which would have brought it down to like, what, 4 hours? I don't think 300 is going to be too long for its own good, but I'm still not totally on board with this slo-mo crap.

Maybe not for you. I suck at reading.

Plus, some stuff is good in slow motion. That clip in the trailer where he flips the guy over his shield? You gotta have slow motion at the parts where people are 99.9% likely to go "OHHHHHHHH SNAPP!!!"

    The <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/300" target="_blank">reviews</a> are rather worrying.

I hate reviews, I only read reviews on games to get a feel for the features, length, etc. Never for the reviewers opinion.
  • MantridMantrid Lockpick Join Date: 2003-12-07 Member: 24109Members
Its got a 60% (fresh) rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so I'm not too concerned... besides, how could it be bad with all those battles, and the crazy looking guy with the fangs, or the fat guy with the swords for arms?

Meh, I'm going to work tonight at the movie theater. A local comic book shop rented out a theater for it, and I get to watch all the fanboys laugh at me for not watching it.

    /cry

I find that Metacritic tends to compile reviews into a meaningful perspective of the movie, and to be honest the main criticism doesn't surprise me. The script just doesn't seem like it would be that deep. It's simply a bad*** action movie that's seemingly pretty, and as such won't gain critical acclaim.

    Plus the metacritic psuedo-review has enough inaccuracy to make Thucydides vindicate divine intervention <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> .

(But it'll still be sweet, sweet action...Like Gladiator, Braveheart and Troy without any of the story, rolled up into a giant ball of gore and violence, just the way the world likes it)

Ah, well, thats fine. Smokin' Aces is like that. Pretty crappy plot, they could have done a lot more with it, but the Tremor Brothers more than make up for that. As does a lesbian with a 50 caliber rifle. As does... well, hell, its just a freaking cool movie if you want to see a lot of people die.

I just read the 5 part graphic novel the movie comes from. just like Sin City, the movie seems to have lots of scenes taken directly from the pictures in the books.

i cant wait to see the movie myself.

Ugh, too much CG and too much slow motion and visual woosh woosh. It looks great visually from the trailer, although a bit over the top on the contrasty dirt look, but probably 90% of the set of that movie is CG and i just dont like it.

    NiN in the trailer is cool though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    Wall street journal :

300 presents a dual clash of civilizations. An action adventure that pits thousands of Persians against 300 brave Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae, it also pits millions of fans of brainless violence against a gallant band, or so I choose to think of us, who still expect movies to contain detectable traces of humanity.

I lol'd. bring on the brainless violence!

Well, historically they did hold out pretty well (it's a bottleneck situation, and the greeks had a neat little stone wall for defense and rallying - until they left it and then retreated again to the hill behind it). I mean, all of the Spartans died, but it was in a hail of arrows since Xerxes was sort of annoyed at all of his losses. It's not really a "and the Persian army was decimated" battle either, it was a delaying tactic (much like the battle of Artemisium turned out to be), so that other greek poleis could rally forces for the eventual battles at Plataea and Salamis.

(...Plus it's about a 1000 soldiers, with 300 Spartans and 700 or so Thespians)

    If you can't find a copy of Herodotus' <i>Histories </i> there's always ... <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_thermopylae#Final_stand_of_the_Spartans_and_Thespians" target="_blank">wikipedia</a>.
