Any idea who wrote the final comic?

It was part of the epilogue of the Civil War event, where superheroes were split to two sides fighting each other. One side was lead by Iron Man, supporting the government's act that all superheroes are required to register and reveal their secret identities so they can be held accountable for any mistakes they make, while the other side was an underground group lead by Captain America, who refused to give up his personal freedoms just so all the superheroes could be exploited and used by bureaucrats. It was a long and VERY awesome battle, but in the end, the Captain realized all the fighting was causing a lot of destruction towards the civilians, and he surrenders and tells all the anti-registration people to also stand down. The Civil War ends, and Captain America is placed under arrest.

And then, walking up the steps to a courthouse, he gets snipered.

I have very little faith that this is going to stick, especially in light of Ed Brubaker's critically acclaimed work on the current Cap series. And with a Captain America movie coming out within a couple years, he'll definitely be making his return by then (just like they've put Spider-Man back in his black costume for the upcoming Spider-Man 3).

Oh the drama! Wouldn't he have died from age, or did he slaughter father time and rape mother nature?

I haven't read a single Captain America comic book or Civil War or whatever it's calling itself these days, but I'm pretty sure he's frozen and wakes up all disoriented - sort of like an old guy, really...

Yeah, he was frozen in the Atlantic in the final days of WW2 (gogo comic book science!), and awakened in "modern times", which started out as 1963, and through the sliding time scale in comics is now more like the early to mid 1990s.

How often has Superman died already? This still upsets people? "Hey look, we killed off a valuable franchise!" *resurrect* "Oh man, and you even believed us. Suckers."

Which would be the point, I suspect.

They're saying they want Cap's death to have "meaning", although they haven't specifically said "we're not going to bring Captain America back". My prediction? Steve Rogers is dead and gone, but someone else will take up the costume and shield.

Was I the only one who never liked Captain America? :o

I've never really liked any of the 'patriot' super heroes, much preferring the grittier 'real' ones like batman, the more outlandish ones like deadpool or the plainly more down to earth in attitude despite being 'super' ones like spiderman.

I liked Batman better when he was a parody. Turning him into a "real" superhero made him all sucky.

Captain America was such an amazing superhero. Like, you know how regular people look up to superheroes as role models? Captain America was the role model superheroes looked up to. Almost all superheroes have a strong moral code they follow, but Steve Rogers was a freaking pillar of all that is justice and righteousness.

There's probably hundreds of other Marvel characters that had more powerful abilities than him, but he was amazing. I didn't pay any attention to him until I got into the Civil War event, and I immediately fell in love with him.

I would think when you ask an average Joe, "Hey, name me one superhero."

There was this guy, Superman. You know... Truth and Justice and being the first Superhero and all that?

Actually, there was this Superman comic where he died on every page. Or maybe that was Radioactive Man...

Well, the comic book world is largely made up of superheroes and supervillains.

If you were to take the top 10 superheroes and debate their superiority over each other, well, that could go on for a long time.

But if you were to simply eliminate all the superheroes that have super POWERS, and keep only those who were still 100% human in mind and body, who would be left?

And of those that were left, who would be the most perfect in their heroism and protection of justice? Who among those left have unflinchingly devoted every aspect of their lives not to personal motives, not to self-searching, not to love, not to personal vendetta, but ONLY to their duties as a superhero?

That's Captain America in a nutshell. If you can't appreciate that, then you can go and keep your kooky little stand-up comedian heroes with their radioactive pituitary glands and whatnot, and let the Cap go on taking care of the big stuff.

Batman's not a superhero though, he doesn't have powers other than an infinite supply of money that Wayne Corp brings in.

Now I'm not really a comics guy, but I'm pretty sure Batman started out as a dark bad***. Wikipedia seems to corroborate this.
