I am not one to post news everyone has seen, but this one actually made me laugh enough that I wanted to make sure you all saw it:

<a href="http://images.apple.com/movies/us/apple/getamac/apple-getamac-security_848x496.mov" target="_blank">http://images.apple.com/movies/us/apple/ge...ity_848x496.mov</a>

Now, go ahead and derail this thread so I can lock it soon... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

I'll put the penny on the rail and say... MACS SUCK! Kidding.

Anyway, I haven't used Vista, but I'm guessing this is really overexagurated.

Insanely so. While that was definitely a problem on XP SP2's firewall, the Vista Firewall is pretty smart about it, according to every review I've seen.

I think it's more referring to the UAC in Vista, which (I have no experience with, but have heard) can be rather annoying/obnoxious. I guess it is essentially sudo from nix-land, it lets non-administrators run administrator-access-level commands.

I liked the ad, but I liked the Vista release Mac commercial more.

Like 1/5 of those Pc vs Mac was funny...

It does not make sense to me that ppl using pc gets to hang out with hot chicks...

    oh wait...

I think he is hinting to all the new and good looking games and programs that comes to Vista...

    ok, so 2/5 was funny.

what bothers me is that half of the mac vs pc commercials arent even saying anything about macs or pcs. they are just making fun of that guy. and they never say anything about macs.

but on a side note, yes vista does have a whole lot of cancel or allow messages. like a ridiculous amount. especially when trying to mess with the control panel stuff. it will ask you if you want to change this setting, then it will ask you if youre sure you want to click yes to the first question. so you try and do one thing and get 2, sometimes 3 confirmmessages.

and you get them a lot when youre just running normal programs too. but considering it takes half a second to click it, i dont really get bothered.

So am I the only one that realises that something that can only promote itself by slagging it's competitors is probably totally worthless?

It's great how the Mac commercial claims that they do not need upgrades. Instead of upgrading, you'll have to toss out your computer and buy a whole new one.

Edit: Yes, those Mac commercials are pretty pointless as it does not talk much about anything. I haven't seen any windows commercials though.

VLC can play them... although I also have Quicktime installed, so it may just be using the codec. Does anyone know of a good Winamp plugin for .mov files? Or better yet, some incentives/plugins for me to switch over to VLC for all my media needs?

You guys should check out Quicktime Alternative. It installs the Quicktime filters, so that you can play MOVs in any media player that uses DirectShow filters. A quick googling should find it.

They are also hosted on youtube. Search "Mac commercial" or "Mac ads".

This one is a classic from a few years ago put together by Hunter Cressall. Its a spoof of the old iMac ads, which had a similar white background. I love it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Neg; <a href="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3602055360534110299&q=switch" target="_blank">this</a> is the best Switch ad parody. Especially because of the RvB goodness.

Wow, that was quick. But... pretty much sums up some of my many views on Vista.

..Of course apple "forgets" to inform us that their Mac Pro can run Windows.. *Cough*

Besides buying a computer with the hardware already set up for you, I do not see the benefit of using a Mac for windows instead of using a PC for windows.
