I've never noticed this before. I wonder if it's always been doing this.

I used my programmer's text editor (EditPlus, though you could probably use Notepad++ or TextPad or even a Hex editor, really) to open the v_lvl2.mdl file, which results in mostly garbage, because v_lvl2.mdl is a binary file, not a text file. Still, some parts are plain text, and the're the ones we're looking for. I then replaced all occurences of "->" with "--". After saving (backup the old file first!), the model seems to correctly decompile.

SnappyCrunch which programs do you use to decompile/compile and modelate??
    Thanks for the information.

If I'm not mistaken, Snappy uses 3Ds Max, then imports them to Milkshape (because Milkshape was made to model for Half-Life and mods) and compiles them there. I have no idea how to decompile.

    <a href="http://www.fpsbanana.com/mirrors/startdl/1?path=http://files.fpsbanana.com/tools/hlmv125&sectionid=238351&ext=zip" target="_blank">HLMV</a>

can decompile, compile model files and so on.

I use Kratisto's MDL decompiler, v 1.2, built into Milkshape. To compile, I use a command line compiler called studiomdl.exe, which I've had since time immemorial, and I have no idea where I originally got it from.

Oh, and sorry to dissapoint, Spawn, but I do all of my modeling in Milkshape. It holds me back sometimes, but I just haven't gotten around to learning anything else. I've put some time into trying to pick up Blender, but it's really different from what I already know (think PSP to PS different), and AFAIK, there's no HL1 .smd exporter for it, so I'd still need milkshape around. ::shrug:: Maybe one day.

Ooooh! Also, I'd like to hold a modelling program flame war here, where you all tell me how much your modelling program rocks, and how much mine sucks!

    Oh.

Eh. Some of the stuff you pump out looks too good to be done in Milkshape so I just kind of assumed...

Of course, that just makes you and your models that much more awesome. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Thanks snappy, I change some caracters and I can decompile the model.
I have Jed´s HLMV too and i think this is a useful program to compile and decompile a model because there are most of configurations (like eye origin) that the program remember.
Yeah, milkshape rocks, but for holes and booleans i use AC3D ^^.
I have another question for you profesionals: Someone knows a tutorial or a web page which contains information about variables of GC script. Thanks

This is a some models I smooth:

    How ya doin?

As was told to me, so shall I tell to you.

The names of several animations clash with most extractors, hence to get the animations you want you can either:

    A) Make new ones up

    or

    B) Get a hex editor and rename them.

Offhand I can remember the Onos for CERTAIN has this problem, unsure of the others. Maybe the Lerk.

    Hope this helps.
