The Applie iPhone

<div class="IPBDescription">Or as PvP Puts it, "Jesus has come back, and He is a phone."</div><a href="http://www.apple.com/iphone/" target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/iphone/</a>

So, who likes it? Who hates it? Who thinks its nice, but not the revolution they were promising?

Personally, I like it...but I don't like it enough to spend $499(4gb) or $599(8gb) on it. Once it hits $299 or, if I'm really adventurous $399, I'll grab it. Even 8gb is barely enough for my music- if I included the trailers I always carry with me(to show the non believing gamers the awesomeness of certain games), I get to 10gb. But all the other features, and how clean it is, makes it pretty damn useful. I like it. I especially am a big fan of FINALLY having a REAL web browser. Now if I could install a remote-desktop widget on it to my PC, I could download patches while at work, or have it alert me when BitTorrent downloads are done. And I doubt this is too far from being able to be done.

So, what do ye all think? And what about the Apple TV? Any thoughts on that(I find it odd they didn't mention any DVR capabilities at all...which instantly makes it worthless to me.)?

Well... I'm not all that fond of Apple, although I was all ready to be impressed by this, but from what Engadget says...

No 3G. We know you know, but still, it hurts man.
No over the air iTunes Store downloads or WiFi syncing to your host machine.
    No expandable memory.
    No removable battery.
    No Exchange or Office support.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I'm not really excited.

This "i" revolution is just too much. I personally see this as useless.

I wouldn't necessarily say those things are impossible, though, for the software ones. The iTunes syncing I'm almost sure is certainly possible- but then again, you still have to recharge the thing every day, so I guess they figured it as much as I did- why does it matter at this point? As for buying...a definite oversight, and the way he even phrased it I wonder if they even plan on doing it.

No expandable memory and no removable battery is Apple standard, so bweh.

When it comes to Office support, I don't see why that can't be implemented later. It should merely be a matter of programming office for it- so, not really Apple's job.

The phone itself is very nicely done, but those points do cause a big let down for me as well. Not hthat it matters being in Canada...

Considering I don't exactly Mac OSX on a computer, I doubt I will like it on a phone.

Sweet ###### design though... I can just imagine the screen getting scratched though!

I think I'll wait a few years for the product to mature and the prices to drop before I even start considering it... Even then I'm sure I wouldn't go with Apple and all of their proprietary stuff.

I see none of you have watched the Keynote.

Watch the keynote, and you see how its different. The overall cohesion, the ease of use, and just the quality is better.

Its like asking why a iPod is better than your average MP3 player. Sure, some will disagree, but its hard to deny that its just made better, generally.

May I add the big feature, for myself: Real website usage. Not mini-made-for-phones website usage.

    So, uh... what about Linksys's <a href="http://www.internetnews.com/infra/article.php/3649806" target="_blank">iPhone</a>?

There was something I heard on a tech show mentioning this. I'm searching through shows trying to find the info.

    [EDIT]

OMG... Apple's iPhone is pretty sexy, from what I see...

Just like he said so many times... "Isn't this just cool?"

Haha. You used the word 'cohesion' to describe a mobile phone's appeal. Salesman verbal masturbation aside, I didn't know apple were coming out with an iPhone. Does it come with an iSock? Does the iSock come with an iClip? Can I clip it to my iBelt? But... but I don't have pants. I'm sure apple will come out with a cream white jumpsuit so I can shave my head and live in their electronic gel community iHomes by 2020. Get with the times already, man. You're just not trendy enough.

Truth. It's a mechanical HDD anyway, what was the damn point in making it 4gb? I'm loving the touchpad thing tho. Shame it's an apple product. I wouldn't buy a car that only drives on half the roads, so why should I buy an iPhone.

The iPhone works wherever iTunes works. So thats like...95% of the world's roads, but those in Linuxo. But their roads are mostly unpaved and made by the locals, anyhow.

Ok, this is a conversation between the iPhone, and my XDA...

    iPhone: I've got a touchscreen...
XDA: I'm 2 years old. And I've had a touchscreen for all that time. The XDA2s had one, and the original XDAs had one as well...

iPhone: I can play your music!
XDA: I come with Media Player 10 installed as default, which can play more music files than you. If there's not enough files supported, I can be upgraded with various free codecs from the interweb...

iPhone: I can browse the web using advanced software!
XDA: I can browse the web using software that everyone is familiar with. Which can also be replaced using one of many open source variations

iPhone: I can synchronise to your PC or Mac and copy your contacts, appointments and stuff over automatically.
XDA: I can also do that, using Activesync...

    iPhone: I have wireless networking!
XDA: So do I, which supports huge connection lists...

iPhone: But I have a pretty interface!!!
XDA: Come here and I'll rearrange that interface for you...

Hands down, my phone has had all that crap for years, and has a stylus, so I can use a small keyboard, and can do fiddly accurate points on my screen. It also has upgradable memory (SD cards = win <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />). I'll stick with my phone. Or I might get an XDA2 Exec if I get rich sometime soon <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

But patch, that's what apple do. They take emerging tech, make them suitable for the average joe and market them really well.

Plus the touchscreen is a multi-point touchscreen. You can use 2 or more fingers at once.
  • scaryfacescaryface Join Date: 2002-11-25 Member: 9918Members
It actually looks pretty nice. And I think that ipods are fugly. features are decent, and i love multi-touch displays. pressure touchscreens are no match for capacitive touchpads in my opinion (which is why i don't plan on buying a nintendo ds. I hate styli) and it has a 4gb hd, which puts it above most smartphones. The main problem is that it is expensive (way more expensive than most smartphones).
    I don't plan on buying it since i'm anti-fad <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/marine.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::marine::" border="0" alt="marine.gif" /> and don't like the overrated crap that apple sells

Apple is all about marketing. They can sell anything that has the letter 'i' in it through brand name recognition. Anything with i in it will immediately be considered fashionable, and every preppy highschool kid will have one in days.
