Setting?

Will NS2 have a simillar setting and technology basis as NS1?
ie the maps are marine facilities or ships where the marines start with the technology of nanoparticle fabrication to create things anywhere. and aliens have the spores/infestation (like creep i guess) that grows and floats arround? Would be interesting to see these basic 'starting technologies' or territories as something to fight over in NS2 - the marines may have to build/extend thier network, and the aliens try and extend thier infestation.

That'd be brilliant, but I cannot see how it could be done without heavy modification of the Source engine. Even then, it'd be quite fps intensive I would imagine.

Why? A Texture overlay is easy...

But I say, that the Environtment should include several out-of-the-House Maps, where the Marines are limited to several Building locations only!
Even Building based upon vehicles would be neat, like an Adaption of BF2142's Titanmode combined with Starcraft and Empires:Source (Mod).

Yes, I request vehicles in NS2.

If there were to be Vehicles in NS, the scale of the game would become MUCH bigger. The aliens would need even bigger life-forms to overcome the vehicles depending on whether you are talking about Tanks or Jeep-like vehicles inputed in to the game.

You could just have the vehicles teleported in to the map. That would lessen the requirement of bigger buildings, but it would have to be expensive.

N3, NS2 will be in Australia, right next to you.

And please, no vehicles in NS2.

I can't imagine simple texture overlays looking good. What would be really cool is when a hive starts growing in an area this "creep" starts taking over the room, lights dim, light bulbs break permanently, the walls glisten with moisture etc... Even when the hive was destroyed the creep would dissolve into nothing, but the room would still be dim. Man, the expectations are so freaking high for this game haha, their never gonna be able to get all this stuff in.

lol, yeh, there are so many good suggestions for this game, cramming it all into ns2 is going to be a hard task for the dev team.

I also think the "creep" thing is a good idea.

Adding vehicles in NS2 is pointless. Why? Because you already have phase gates, thus eliminating the basic uses of a vehicle. Sure they're nice to have, and you get all the benefits associated with having a vehicle, but the aliens would just be duped with it, and it would take twice the amount of what the aliens have on their resources (logistically and physically).

That creep type of thing is actually a very cool idea, making the map very dynamic.

I would want to see a jungle type scenario on the kharaa homeworld maybe? Something like Predator would be cool. Just imagine, a lush amazon-type environment (maybe ad some weird colored plants like in ns_origin) with marines creeping through a small path, all of the sudden lerks come out of the trees amd swarm them, then jpers come over a hill with shotties......and FLAMETHROWERS to clear a path to the hive or something...but in the jungle marines cant build unless they clear alot out

ooh, while we're on the topic of flamethrowers... if they're in it make sure it like lights other people and possibly the environment on fire if you come close. maybe different types of grenades too possibly a grenade launcher that can use different types of grenades, ..

could use flamethrower to fight back the creep <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> i can imagine the alien carapace being fairly resillient

I would not like the idea of vehicles in ns2 since ns has always been about fighting in close quarters. Creeping around in vents or narrow passages is how we all know ns i think. Now i can agree that new features will bring new gameplay elements but how on earth are you going to bring in vehicles into facility based levels.

Right now i just hope it turns out like we all know ns first after thats done all new things can be added. Its always fun to see updates come and bring new things instead of getting everything in one go.

I am just looking forward to the first screenshot of ns2 right now.

i love the idea of creep. i can't imagine it being very hard.. coding it may be.. but the concept of how to do it shouldn't be too hard. like have a shader or something just slowly grow over every brush in the area.. i would also like to see chamber on ceiling and walls, i saw a plugin that allowd gorges to place them anywhere as long as there was room. and then have the creep coming off that.. that would be sweet.

You don't need to go everywhere with a Tank or Siegeunit, just several locations should be open.
Think of it that way: The Siege resambles now the Siegetank from Starcraft and Marinespawn is the only Point where they can enter the map.
Now, there are several Ways to the Hive, with remote controlled doors - the fight would concentrate on those chokes since you first have to open the doors before you can kick the Alien's sack...
Needles to say that these units would be incredible slow and fairly large -
they are quite powerfull after all! And the Size of them limit the possible amount of Sieges attacking the Hive (from one Way, that is).
It also discourages complete relocates and f***s over the Marines when they lose their spawn 'till they find another way to get their stuff delivered ^^

I really hope it's in the same era as NS. Not a sequel, or a prequel.

Like... "Natural Selection 2: 400 years in the future of the original NS.." :/

I hope it's like.. a continuing story for the NS universe we all know and love.

I don't want to even mention the vehicle issue. It is just not the way of this game. It doesn't fit. It would bring nothing than (most importantly) changing the default (ns 1) game setting totally, lowering the game performance, demolishing the game balance and finally allowing lamers to ruin the gameplay.

They can already with NS1. You should stay with that if you don't want to accept a new way of gameplay.
Also, its definitely not the aged Halflife 1 aka Quake/Doom 1 Engine that's going to be used, mmmmkay?

Yes, it depends on the Implementation of Netcode when Vehicles impact on Performance, but that can be allways tweaked.

i say; if you want vehicles make your own maps and mods for it. and the 'creep' is known as 'infestation' cuz its the texture name in the editor is that. cuz <b>this is NS not starcraft!!!</b>

I too agree with the creep idea, sounds cool. As for vehicles - maybe a deployable siege cannon or something that is moveable by a marine but I'm not sure about a fully fledged vehicle so to speak.

A while back I tried to make a map then was confronted with the problem that really hl1 wouldnt be able to cope with what I wanted to achieve, basicly wanted to make instead of aliens infesting the marines ship - marines landing on a martian planet only to find the nasties below (kinda like alien 2 I think or mebe 1).

    Flamethrowers, I like that idea as long as all organic matter make a suitable crackling sound <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    Oh and hai2u N3 and glimmerman - ns is pretty dead in wa now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Have you been on the US servers? It may be laggy, but the team work on those things are great. Lots of people with mics etc (not the annoying type).
