I was thinking of that as well.

When it comes to cloning titles across platforms, to me, it always looks like someone is just trying to make a quick buck.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    That is pretty much true.

Unlike BF2, Call of duty 2, Halo(PC), counter-strike(xbox), and so on; Natural Selection isn't a very well known game. Most of the ports from PC to console or vice versa, did poorly compared to their orginal platform.

Unless Natural Selection is some big well known game, no one will buy it for consoles unless it actually as good or better than the PC version. Well, if we can make a simple effortless port to other platforms without much resources needed, I can see no harm in porting it to other platforms. But that is definately not the case.

Humiliated, that being said, it will be more of a rarity then not.

Most surely, people will start making "Console only" and "PC only" servers for that precise reason.

I believe most games with "ports" to other platforms already do.

Examples: Call of duty games and BF2 on xbox360/PS2.

Those two are FPS that were orginally for PC, the console versions usually "die" out long before the PC does.

So I say there should be shared servers.

I was under the impression that these consoles would support USB mouse and keyboard =/ and I do agree, although I loved redfaction2 on the PS2, that gamepads are a bit... ###### for fps games.

I was also under the impression that RTS didn't do so well due to consoles being a 'quick game' system, and not something to sit at for hours.

The big difference would be the poor image quality a TV has when compared to a monitor. And maybe the inevitable slowdown consoles have, which is unupgradable, although IQ settings will be lower to compensate.

so, Flay, have you ever played 'Command & Conquer' or StarCraft for N64?

do you realize what you're implying with this? "changing the commander mode" by slowing and oversimplifying it to suite a console at the expense of the PC experience?

i hope you mean the console edition is drastically different (and slowed/simplified), not that the entire NS2 experience, including could be different

this sounds like making the same mistake you did with combat-trying to attract a bigger, more marketable crowd, and losing your heart and soul in the process: NS is all about depth in strategy and potential, a game where true skill and talent shine through more marvelously than in any HL mod before it. why not take these aspects and expand on them? i would hope NS2 strives to be the evolution of NS, not regression to fit into some stupid trend.

There is no console version planned for NS2 at this time. But if there was going to be one, it would probably be a modified version of the game suitable for the needs of a console rather of a direct port of a game we tried to make work across all platforms.

    If NS2 is ported to console, EA will buy UWE. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I personally don't see a reason for console versions of NS:S. UWE is gonna get enough money without console versions. Console gamers will not be ready for this type of game, they never use teamwork and usually just play run'n'gun games, we will also get a lot of unwanted people visiting the forums (think threads about 'cake vs pie'). The console versions will most likely die out like CS on xbox, Not to mention the endless threads about "X360 version pwns PS3 and PC versions!!11" and vice versa. I think it's more trouble than it's worth, keep it simple and only on PC. Well thats my 2 cents.

I don't see any problem with putting it on consoles. New players are bad anyway, and they won't probably notice the difference playing with a gamepad at first.

If they do notice it later, they can go buy <a href="http://www.gamersection.ca/product_info.php?products_id=377&language=1" target="_blank">this</a> or <a href="http://gaming.engadget.com/2007/03/21/splitfish-announces-fragfx-mouse-controller-for-ps3/" target="_blank">that</a>.

And you can be proud that you're stimulating the US economy.

I work at a game center which has xbox and xbox 360 available.

I used to be in the "keyboard/mouse whoops controller anyday" camp for like 10 years but not after seeing these pro/semi-pro halo players. They can flip around and headshot each shot with ease on the controller (sensitivity obviously turned up to max). Switch to Call of Duty (on 360) and it's the same thing - the best players get constant headshots.. and almost instant kills on sight. Basically they kill at the same rate as a very skilled counter-strike/NS player (almost instant kill).

Of course these are the really good players that play every single day attempting to join national tournaments but still.. it can be done. Also I've played Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II (LOTR:BFME) which is a real time strategy for the 360 and the controls are SUPER clean. You can make groups and access them almost as fast as the PC. Although after having watched videos of pro starcraft players, I don't think it could ever be THAT fast... but definitely fast enough for NS assuming you could press a button to cycle through marines needing health/ammo.

But like flayra and other mentioned earlier there's much bigger issues surrounding a console release (licensing, engine feasibility, etc.).

A CO version of NS would probably sell best anyway cuz u can just jump in, kill stuff, and have a good time without really being punished for sucking.
