lmao.

1. I almost chose serenity as the name for my still WIP map, Solace

2. Thursday has a WIP currently under the name Serenity.

3. Yeah frigid sucks as a name. I was thinking about this the other day so here are some suggestions:

gelid (didn't even know this word existed, comes from the Latin I suspect, like the Italian gelato meaning frozen or ice-cream; the Spanish is helado)
algid (same as above, but I have no idea about the roots of this word)
boreal (see above)
brumal (see above)
keen (same as above, but I did know this word existed with this meaning)
wintry (meh)
frostbound (I kinda invented this word)
chill (probably has more of a sudden cold feeling to it, not the stagnant frozen desolation feeling you look like you were going for)
polar (meh)
chaste (I'm guessing this is the meaning you weren't going for, but it sounds better than frigid!)
vestal (see above)
bleak (or bleakdom if you want an invented word)
icebox (kinda has a stand-offish competitive feeling to it)

I should say it's pretty much the paragon of cleanliness and the cusp of prettiness. Or perhaps the paragon of prettiness and the cusp of cleanliness.

It's neat is what I'm saying.

I like some of your cavern shots, but for the rest of it, I can't figure out what it's supposed to be. It's interesting, but I feel like I'm looking at a piece of modern art, or a new building for a trendy design school somewhere. None of it seems very functional as an actual location. What are those hallways for?

Not to act smart or anything, but like 99% of Nancy is a bunch of useless crap. Half of Tanith is rooms with floor grates removed exposing wires. Nothing was pretty much spottily lit corridors. NS maps aren't #1 when it comes to "OLO SUPAR REALISTIC." Sometimes it's just enough for them to look pretty and play well.

If I see you ingame sometime (generally I play on Linuxmonster) I'll show you around the maps. Then I'll point at parts of them and you have to explain what they do. I get a point each time you can't, and you get a point each time you can. Whoever has the least points at the end of the round has to explain to our team why we haven't been playing the game and instead have been staring at the walls.

Seriously though, we don't have to know exactly what it was used for, but it ought to feel like somebody used it for something.

To add/reply to these comments and also give my general opinion of the map:

Moultano had a valid point about the corridors. The style isn't the problem, it's the repetitiveness. You need to do something to each one to distinguish it somehow.

In response to what Tycho said; this has been done in other maps by putting in features such as the removed grates. While these might seem overused, it at least lets the player recognise an area more easily.

Colours can do this as well (think TFC). If you light your corridors with a tinge of a primary colour you will distinguish them from the others. At the moment most of them have the same style and the same white lighting scheme.

Other ideas would be flickering, broken lights, broken pipes, or other room features. Everywhere's looking quite bare at the moment, but I suppose the competitive community will like that. What I would say is that you have to think about the up-and-coming competitive players: the guys in the Pubs.

If you want to make a map for the current competitive community then leave it as it is. If you want to make a map that plays its own meagre, but nonetheless important role in bringing in new players to the competitive scene, quickly, then make it easier to learn.
