Goodbye Ns

I'm leaving till the next patch
NS has been fun, you all, but unfortunately after a hard night's battle in AvP2, I have come back to NS and found the Kharra less than useful.

It isn't the game on a whole, its just the little things that irritate me... Gorges not being able to eat their own structures, Skulks falling off walls at EVERY outcropping, and Lerks not being able to turn whatsoever on a corner.

I know you all have coped with it, but after my expirience with a game as polished as AvP2, i've decided to stop playing until a patch has been introduced to fix these navigation problems.

"It ain't that Skulks fall off at every corner, its just that the mappers had to be mean enough to put so MANY of them in." Yantarei, friend of LazerMane

    AvP2 = Paid workers
NS = Unpaid for your enjoyment

Now guys, if any flames start here, this thread will glady be locked!

I have to wonder what prompts people to post things like this.. it's like they NEED to kick sand in the face of the creators, and turn their nose up as they saunter away. It's sad. :/

AvP and AvP2 are working with a different engine that was licensed. Money money money MONEY. They had a whole team to go in and edit it the way they saw fit, thus adding better "clinging" to the walls and whatever other features you so desperately require. Natural Selection is working off a game engine that's almost 5 years old that wasn't meant to do most of this stuff in the first place. Comprox summed it up nicely.

    Get over yourself, Lazer.

    You've been here for.....23 days? I don't think I've ever seen a "Goodbye <game name>" post after 23 days.

I think I saw one for The Opera three days after release.

I personally put down Heros of Might and Magic about 5 minutes after I started it, but I didn't bother to register on their message boards to tell them about it.

Which is why you shouldn't leave.

The more support this mod has, the more likely a publisher will take note, and the guys will get some funding.

However, if after that funding, it turns out anything like Gunman Chronicles...

Flayra, I will find your house and shoot you m8.

Wow, someone complains about a free mod developed solely for the enjoyment of the people who play it? I have more then a few niggles with NS, but the game is just so awesome as a whole, those things couldn't make me quit heh.

If you really can't get around as a skulk or a lerk, the fault is on your end, not the dev team's.

    And it was abysmal.

I don't mind a great mod going retail, and if that's the quality level you have to reach to be released, NS should already be filling the shelves

Hehe, yeah, Gunman sux0red muchos b4ll0x. The dev's of that game should be shot for having the audacity to sell it to people :\

NS however I'd gladly pay for. Plus, IMHO, NS is a LOT more fun and deep than avp/avp2 will ever be. Avp suffers from the boring repetition of being a deathmatch game, plus the netcode on the game was horrible last time I played, no matter your connection or server, there'd always be times you'd just randomly start warping around as you walked.

Guess you can afford to make crap games when they're based on a franchise

it was a free mod, then it caught on a went retail, you had to pay for it instead of being able to download it for free.

For what I've noticed on Skulkies wall climbing etc. I find the ceiling-moving pretty easy. I'm pretty clever in most things, and I noticed that when you look up and walk, it jumps! ( ) So the trick is for me, if theres a crop, I go down it a vertically, then again horizontally, then just look a bit up and walk. *ta-da* Skulk just jumps there like nothing.

In short -the problem is between the chair and the keyboard (That mean's you )

For every 1 person who dislikes NS, there are 100 people who love it. It shouldn't effect him much if one person doesn't like his art. [Yes, art. NS is a work of art.]

NS is quite good and already 4th most popular mod in its first release so im sure its not exactly gonna be perfect nothing is but at least it can be good rite some minor thingz like those shouldn't even bother people i think hes just using an excuse to go off to play AvP2 or if hes really that sensitive and **obscenity** about it then leave him.
  • InexorableInexorable Join Date: 2002-09-28 Member: 1360Members
Of course, for every 100 who love it, there's 10,000 who've never heard of it....

Since it's being brought up so many times, I wouldn't actually pay for NS in it's current state. NS is good, and better than a lot of 'finished' products, but itself isn't finished. There are still some considerable bugs in the code, and I hate paying for a defective product.

That is of course entirely due to the fact it's a free time mod, done by people who had to other things to do (like work to pay bills). I'm sure that if you took this same development team, payed them to make the mod so they didn't have a bunch of other real life stuff to deal with NS would be something I would buy.

If not for the product, I'd pay to be in the community. Like the SA forums, the "Ten Dollar Deterrant", keeps most badmouthers out of there. Honestly though, when you compare a retail game with professionals, a public affairs department and plenty of paid people to a modification of an old and sometimes considered obsolete engine that is worked on by people in their spare time, you kind of wonder which you should appreciate more.

Take Warcraft 3 for example, and yet.. I'd play Front Mission or Soldat over it (purely personal preference). If the NS team needed money, I'd be more than happy to contribute, even ten bucks (which I probably don't have at the moment). After all, they've provided me with plenty of enjoyment and time burning to the horror of this quarter's grades.

Well, if you don't like the mod, there's nothing to be done about it.

    LOL.

I didn't think the post would get this many people coming to say farewell/flame at me.

It's a free mod, and i respect that.

I was not trying to be arrogant or mean about saying those things.

Just that i've gotta put it down for a while.

(Been fired already for playing NS too much )

I still consider the NS team extremely talented, moreso than many professional development teams, but that doesn't change the end product. The gameplay and design of NS is great, but a really good buggy game is still a buggy game. Of course, most of the bugs I've seen either have been fixed already, or are being fixed as we speak. I figure within the next few patches (quite possibly the first client patch) every issue I've got with the technical performance will have been resolved and NS will be something I consider 'sale worthy'.

Oh, I seem to have sounded a bit inconsiderate myself and I apologize to you LazerMane. When I said the TDT, I didn't specifically mean you, to clarify. Just my off-center way of expressing my gravitation towards this community.

Heh heh... Soldat. What a great game.

And can ANYONE name a game recenlty that got released retail without a few (dozen, if you're Blizzard) patches being released in short order?

I think software houses have got seriously SLACK these days. It seems the plan is, save on testing cash, by just getting the public to do it for you!

Maybe dev could take a listing of all the "known" players now for when/if it does become retail? (Hey, I could add it to my list of stuff I've done things like that with, I am official new stuff kinda guy)
