<div class="IPBDescription">My first lan O.o</div> So yes, I'm going to have a few day LAN party with friends of mine, but I have no experience with it, only thing I was told was to bring my PC, monitor, mouse and keyboard, LAN cable, USB hub, USB HDDdisk and my headset.

Any tips from the experienced LAN'ers?

sleep, eat real meals, don't hack, don't steal stuff, don't use physical violence (even against spawn campers), vary the games

OMG, how old are you? your FIRST lan? i feel pity

dont bring electric devices that use up much energy

    Stock up on soda.

    <i>Lots of soda.</i>

True LANers take it well into the night and past morning. No sleep for the win.

ah, god, a friend of mine is going to move and will make a lan-party at his new home

this will be so great, lots of coke, pizza, no sleep, sitting in front of the pc in apathy
    the rest of the pizza will be breakfast <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    and that for 1 or 2 days <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

not to forget leeching my 160 gbs full

    3 simple rules.

    1. Don't sleep, what ever you do, do not fall asleep.
    2. Eat only pizzas... and not normal sized ones, family sized ones.
    3. Have fun, and bring alot of soda ^^

Make sure you triple check everything you need.

also bring backups of your software, particulary your OS, in case there is a problem.

If you are competing, make sure you get sleep, and pal around with your teammates out of game.

Also when competiting, use in game voice comm, and keep your headset on. I did the half ear thing in a CS tourney on LAN one game and I got destroyed.

    If not stay up.

If you want to talk ****, make sure you can handle yourself in a physical confrontation, or not care if you get beat up.

It's a damn LAN between a few friends, not a massive one where you actually have to pay a fee to get in, Firewater.

anyways, yeah, ive seen people get beat up before... the internet is usually a lovely faceless place where you can say w/e you like. but at a lan party, you call the guy a hacking noob bastard., and he will most likely turn out to be the massive guy sitting in the corner, with his 4 massive clan mates.

If it's a small private LAN, bring as many network cables as you have. Somebody else WILL forget theirs, and you can score easy points by lending them yours.

And wow, easy now Moquaio. Rapier made an assumption, no need to go flaming for that. Let's keep the thread civil.

Allways keep an eye on your stuff. I've heard so many horror stories about people having hardware/CD's/CD keys stolen.

Bring food, and don't foget your windows cd! It's very important!

Put your cables and other loose items in a crate/box/container of some sort. Likewise, put any food/drink in a seperate crate/box/container of some sort.

Don't slam peoples heads into their monitors and then urinate on the sparking, twitching mess when they kill you.

    Or do. I forget.

hm, search via ip and/or computername

change your network place to the one the other have aka 1 workplace for all

if you have a similar os it should work

if not and you want stuff from your friends let them give it to you (aka give write access to your hd and let them write it to your disk, but remember to set the correct guest-policies and password)

I tried with both simple sharing and non simple sharing, they always get acces denied, I liked my PC locked tight, but not now, at home I can share perfectly, perhaps it's the same workgroup? at home we have, although everyone else at the LAN has a different workgroup and they still share perfectly.

    -same IP range
    -same workgroup
    -disabled windows firewall
    -rights: Everyone - All rights

I feel so left out. My parents rather suck when it comes to gaming and most of my friends wouldn't know Half Life from Mortal Kombat, in other words, no LAN party for me.

Ahh well, it's just like online gaming, a lot more bandwith and I can slap them in the face (and get punched knock out) if I want too.

Someone already mentioned to check your machine for viruses after the lan, but also be sure to check BEFORE the lan too. You don't want to be the fool who accidentally infects everyone's machine.

Some people I know have started a LAN group at my college. They normally do 2 50+ person lans a semester. Last semester we tried to do a 300 person LAN but only about 150-200 showed up.

Whatever you do don't take speakers; take headphones.
