I probably couldn't explain it and do justice.

I recall hearing of something like this a while back but never seeing an actual concept image of it in action. Anyway it'd seem a bit awkward trying to type on something without giving some kind of response back, hopefully not just me.

ah yeah that looks pretty insane! Remember seeing the advert for it over here on UK TV. Its all good typing out you SMS/Txt in the pub until some git comes along and tea leaves your phone.

Yea thats cooler, but a portable keyboard is a cool idea. I seen another laser keyboard thing before, but I can see problems with it. Typists like me wouldent like it too much cause you cant feel the keys

The laser keyboard was debuted at E3 a few years back, packed into a PDA. Though this IS the first cellphone I've seen with it; I'd still rather have the Optimus. Check out the Quake remapping.

    That is definitely pure awesome.

Old news, and I still want one (much more than that silly Optimus keyboard).

I think I'd rather have one of those magnetic keyboards that let you arrange the keys however you want them. Or a custom-made traditional keyboard with a special FPS attachment. (Custom-made so that the keys are the perfect size and curve the best way for my hands.)

PC Format did a test on one of these, they arnt very practical for typing as it missreads sometimes where your fingures are... but none the less it still looks cool.

I think I'd have trouble typing on a keyboard that really didn't exist. Remapping keys on the optimus is a great idea though...

Surely it wouldn't be hard to get a laser to project remapped keys anyway.

I saw the laser keyboard on The Screensavers like a year ago. It didn't work very well.

Or if you want to throw practicality out the window and just look like a professional nerd, you can get Das Keyboard.

[edit]Well, if the keys are so specially weighted & the pressing mechanism designed like it claims, then I guess it's not throwing practicality out the window. But let's face it: it's all about impressing your friends

I don't really fixate my eyes on my keyboard while I'm, you know, controlling what's happening on screen (I use my keyboard based on my sense of touch!), so this is way cooler than the optimus.

    *chuckle*. Nice.

Of course, it would be a simple task to blank the keys on a normal keyboard and get the same effect. Other than all that uber-l33t hype stuff.

That's the coolest thing I've seen in some time. I'm not sure if I'd get it, though. I'm very picky about the "feel" of my interface devices, and I'm not sure I like the proportions and whatnot. I'd have to try it out first.

That Das Keyboard looks cool. I'd think about getting it if it had the "L" shaped enter key and the back slash below it by the shift key where it belongs.
And the optimus looks awesome except it's too long for my keyboard drawer/pull-out shelf thing.

Meh, I like Talesin's pick, but right now I'm using a Saitek Eclipse. Best keyboard I ever used, especially since I usually only use my PC at night in a dark room.

Only when I'm playing new games. I know my keys well enough for typing and FPS games, but sometimes RTS and RPGs have crazy **** default binds...

[edit] Also, it looks nice next to my case with its blue LEDs. The power supply also has them. [/edit]

Sad thing is, I could actually do that! I type about 120 WPm when I'm typing from memory with about 95% accuracy... so long as I don't have to use the number keys or ****+number key combos

I know what you mean. I can't believe that there still isn't any new switch technology close to the snappy feel of buckling spring keyboards.
