We can still purchase games over Steam, correct? For those of you nay-sayers on electronic distribution, I think you will agree that it may be the lesser of two evils in these circumstances.

Agreed. EA won't get jack from me.

Lesser of two evils? For God's sake man, this is seriously making me consider boycotting VAVe. I'm unsure still...but My God.

On the bright side, Valve probably has some leverage with Steam.

Something tells me Valve may have even planned on that reaction.

Though Xbox publishing rights to HL2 Xbox is gargantuan, that thing's going to rake in a few million. Same for any future console ports/projects that Valve may do - online distribution isn't an option there.

Maybe if we get enough explosives, we can stop this from happening...

:edit:

You'd think they'd learn from experiances with VUG, except EA eats about 10 times more babies than VUG, making it more evil, and stuff...

Oh flipping christ. Can you imagine? "Challenge everything" every time you load up an HL2 mod. Man, **** EA.

Wait a sec...

EA = Nvidia
Valve = ATI

Someone's about to get completely owned.

So true.

Anyone up for spamming Doug Lombardi's office? His number is at the bottom of the list there.

Its a ploy by Valve to make more people buy over steam. Slowly building up credit card numbers Gabe Newall will reveal his true identity as the G-man. Then he shall use the money in these bank accounts to buy China and become the next world super power, allowing him to defeat the incoming Combine threat.
• KungFuSquirrelKungFuSquirrel Basher of Muttons Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 103Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Jesus, it's not like EA bought Valve (thankfully we've been spared the "now we can expect Half-Life 3 and 4 in the next year while the original team gets laid off" overreactions here...)

If you have issue with this, stop buying Valve games retail and give the money directly to them with Steam. This is distribution only. No matter how successful Steam may be right now, Valve needs a retail outlet after breaking off relations with Vivendi.

You'd think Valve would have found a publisher that didnt suck, considering their reputation.

Didn't Cagey work on a game for EA? I don't get why so many people hate EA, apart from the fact they are seemingly the biggest market publisher? Or am I wrong?

To me it seems they will just sell the game not change the content, if that is why people don't like this move from Valve. Although I want a new box set with different graphics etc. so I really don't mind this new publisher

They probably don't know any better, if you remember, they were with VU.

Also, what reputation? Congratulations, you've made 2 games, one being a total fluke and the other than would've sold in the millions if the whole game was just Gabe Newell doing a striptease, lubed up with chicken grease, to austrian ska.

If you ask me what makes me dislike Valve, i'll tell you, it's the flipping fanboys. SHUT UP.

i'd rather have just plain electronic distribution, or hell go back to Vivendi, if EA is going to be distributing the boxes.

Uhh. In my opinion, good for them. Vivendi and Valve suck at marketing. At least more people will buy Half Life 2.

People don't like EA mostly because they have a reputation for treating their employees poorly and because they bought exclusive rights to make NFL games.
