Wow, this thread became an embarassment pretty quickly. The words on said bible, are funny only if you don't use the bible to guide your path through life. But hey, while we're at it, why can't we have a few Muslim and Jew jokes! Woohoo!

HAHA ZOMG JEBUS FREAKS, ALL POINT AND LAUGH! LOLLERSKATES AND ROFLCOPTERS!

Come on guys, let's try and grow up a little bit here. I know some Christians with some good humor, but imagine someone was laughing at the expense of the very thing that guides your path through life? Wait, it suddenly becomes offensive.

Sadly, a lot of people don't think that way. When I have discussions about the bible with people, they usually say that its all true, and we have to follow it. Except for these few parts here, these we can ignore, like women wearing pants. But I'M not allowed to decide what is outdated and can be ignored. Only they can.

Well, nothing funny about that. If you slipped on a banana peel it would add the comedy flavour, but a fellow walking along on crutches aint that funny.
I mean look at some comedies, usually there are people getting hurt in a funny way to trigger the laughing effect. If it was just people getting hurt it wouldn't be that funny...

    To relate to this thread:

Well people get offended to fast, people should learn to take jokes. If someone says the bible is a peice of toilet paper, then I would say (If I was relegious that is):
Do you always use expensive books as toilet paper, when there are more comfortable not to mention less expensive ways of cleaning yourself <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I really don't like up tight people, grow in you're own development if you're really offended by this simple joke... sheesh

Comedy is a weird thing, the human mind even weirder...

    Yeah!

I can't wait for another medival like century in which religious leaders rule the world and cut down the progress!

    btw:

Whenever I was talking to someone that was into that christian religious *stuff*, and got into an argument about anything, after some time and going through law to morals to "normal behaviour" and me nullifying all of my opponent's arguments he pulled out the "THE BIBLE SAYS!" stick.

There really are such stiff-headed mis-lead people out there, it's frustrating...

Well, somethings are inherently "offenceive". Everything on that little sticker on that little bible in the...little first post in this thread has some historical bearing, just like your Muslim terrorists and your...I guess that's supposed to be sheik? Sikh? (one demonstrating sikhism) ...neither of which draws "towelhead" to my mind...

Your disappointment in this thread (along with a few other people) is religiously biased. It falls into the same category of having a Grand Theft Auto gaming convention next to a <a href='http://www.mavav.org/' target='_blank'>MAVAV</a> convention - you don't need to stare at the picture, you don't need to interfere with other people looking at the picture. Or, as a more relevant historical example: getting mad a textbook picture calling Napoleon Bonaparte short, and claiming it mocks 'vertically impaired' people everywhere.

Perhaps to say "It might cause degradation to Christian faith" may have a grain of truth in it (about as much as "Evolution is wrong" contributes to converting people to Christianity), but should be rendered irrelevent in this forum, as anyone here has the logical ability to seperate comedic nature from blatant propaganda. Anyone swayed away from Christianity by a picture of a bible with a sticker on it in a lost corner of the internet shouldn't really be your choice subject, ripe for conversion.

This idea that the easiest to offend should be given the loudest voice is one of the major problems in society today, some people are just way to easy to push off the "That is <i>so</i> morally/ethnically/religously/mentally wrong!" cliff. They either lack intrinsic rasoning skills and can not see a fuller picture, or are completely interested in their own self-importance that no other view could possibly in the future and past of the universe, ever, under any circumstance, be true.

And thus, I must ask you (and a few other people), no offense intended: are you truly so corrupted by such an image, that your entire physical and mental being seems deteriorated simply by looking at it; do you feel it threatens moral decay on the whole of the human race to allow it to exist or to be seen; does it haunt your every conscious moment? More importantly: do you really feel that it will somehow prevent you from living your life any diffrently in a negative way, or that it has somehow prevented others from viewing your present lifestyle in a way altered from how it was perceived before?

<!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't have issues with the thread, the thread is working pretty well so far, most people seem to have looked at it rationally, and even the other images posted after the fact were pretty funny. The first posted image is offbase however, it's a steriotypical shot at a religion that shouldn't have been made, just like muslim terrorist jokes or sikh towelhead jokes. I'd expect it from #whois or #nsmapping, but I'm offended that we're running a double standard on these forums, that that kind of shot at christianity is seen as apropriate while racism or muslim jokes are not.

BTW, after I acctually was able to decifer the flowery language it became pretty apparent that you don't understand the issue at all. As a christian I don't defend the original image because it is ignorant and untrue, yes people are laughing at it on the "it's funny because it's true" basis. It has nothing to do with it personally corrupting me, but it is propagating a corrupt mindset.

I think it's funny, because I think it's true. You however don't think it's funny, because you think it's not true... Two oposite opinions, however no one in this thread is forcing anyone to think it's funny or not funny...

For some reason, the forum took me to page three or so. I was expecting the original picture to be of JC eating babies or something. Instead, it's just a harmless old joke (probably much older than Monty Python). What about the picture really makes you angry?

Let's have some perspective. Calling all muslims terrorists is equal to joking about the forgotten verse where God says that the bible's a joke, and may give people an excuse to act like jerks? C'mon.

Guys, grow up. Have some respect for other people's belief systems, minority or otherwise. Yeah, the first picture was kind of funny, but there's no call to follow it up with "omg rofle teh bible is ficiton and religion is lies! kekeke!". For the record I'm an atheist, but I've realised that there's no reason to be evangelical no matter how right you think you are.

But to get this thread back on topic... well, it's not a parody so much as a creative translation <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

If you can't take a little ribbing about your beliefs, you probably shouldn't look at a thread called "bible spoofs". Even if the original poster doesn't go overboard, at least one guy is. That's what the mods are for.

I personally wasn't angered by the picture at all- its more angering the absolute ignorance of many of the people in this thread, Christian, and Christian bashers.

It was actually in reply to this:

Its all good up till the "Exposure Warning" bit. But seriously, what did you expect in a thread called "Bible Spoofs"?

Also, this is most likely related to this: <a href='http://msnbc.msn.com/ID/6822028/' target='_blank'>http://msnbc.msn.com/ID/6822028/</a>

Would it surprise anyone to see a racist or nationalistic thread closed soon after it's started? What's with the double standard? Why is it okay to insult a religion but wrong to insult a color of skin here? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
what? i think i just laughed at this picutre? and here you start spitting out insults? are you trying to actually you know, getting offended because of a picture that just tries to be funny? why do you immediatly take defence position? do you think people will start spitting out insults on religion?

medhead you disapoint me <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The picture isn't funny, it's largely offenceive... Why not call all muslims terrorists, or all sihks towelheads as well? Laughing at religion is apropriate and fun!<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Okay, I'll wait right here and you tell me the exact problem with the picture. As it's quite obvious you're not defending it, you do seem very exacerbated by it (as you did mention in the quote portion above "The picture isn't funny, it's largely offenceive...").

I suppose I missed the part where the picture actually says that all Christians have the 'ailments' alluded to in the warnings. From my more-developed understanding, this is less like a picture of a terrorist with an arrow pointing at him saying "Muslim!" and more like just a picture of an AK-47...just sitting there (but, OMG, he's saying people owning AK47s must be terrorists!!! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).

As noted in the second paragraph in my first post: The picture isn't going to change anyone's views on Christianity (which seems to be the second problem you've resurrected). It's nothing that anyone interested in Christianity wouldn't have the basic reasoning skills to know for themselves, it just puts in it a condescending tone (and if those are the ultimate evil my aunt should have been destroyed a long time ago). I could see how a sticker saying "If you read this you're evil [and etc." could be deliberately offensive...but I'm not sure how you're offended by a picture referencing acts in the bible and historical events based on events through Christianity.

Still, to prevent unnecessary hostility: I only wish to further knowledge, because knowing how this particular subject fuctions does assist in later 'bargaining' or convincing when required. This topic (and not the general reasoning above) could help understand the "video games are evil" mindset (in a very indirect way) when trying to debate with people in such a comparatively foreign mindset.

[And I don't consider it "flowerly language," as I actually talk that way (my family becomes weary of it quickly...which is why I generally try to avoid it...but I'm mildly sick at the moment (pfft, stupid...summer? [meat packing plant, hooray for 45 degrees in a T-shirt for 10 hours]) and don't wish to simplify my posting out of convenience. The really peculiar thing is (at least, to me) I still use "and stuff" and " or things" a lot...because ambiguity rocks.]

Something quite related which happened between the Netherlands and Belgium.

A minister from Belgium insulted our Prime-minister. Calling him a uncharismatic stuck up man without an own opinion. And he made a statement that he looks like Harry potter... This resulted in a crisis in the Belgium gouvernment. This minister then had to pubicly appologize to our Prime-minister to avoid the crisis.
But, in fact the public opinion on our Prime-minister in the Netherlands is exactly the same as this Belgium minister stated. Stand-up comedians and comedy programs made these same jokes about him, and our prime-minister knows about these jokes. Yet they are allowed to get away with it.

Everyone was outraged that this Belgium minister did this, eventually bloing it way out of proportion. This minister is still in office and since it has lost media interest it's already forgotten and the public opinion on our prime-minister hasn't changed at all. So you can ask the question "What is all the fuss about?"

Kind of like this thread on a simple joke is blown way out of proportion, with some people stating that it's a insult on their way of life and should be locked because of it. Learn to take a joke people, I really don't see what the fuss is all about.
