for an undergrad class
I just wanna know, am I the only one who thinks that's insane? until now, I've only had to do 10 pages double spaced max for a class. Now I have to do the equivalent of 40 pages double spaced. I should be getting a master's for this. anyone ever have to do so long a paper for an undergrad class?

    Hahaha.

A teacher of mine had to do a masters paper that was 50 pages, single space, size 10(or typewriter equivilent), in a week.

But still, he had 2 semesters to do that. And that WAS for his masters....man, that sucks, and is insane.

But let it allow you to shine though- some papers I've written I've wished I had much more room, cause I had to condense a ton of information because the teacher didn't want to read more than a page.

I haven't had to do any papers that long yet, but I'm curious about what the paper is supposed to cover. That'd definitely affect how insane I think it is.

What's the subject? If it's good enough, it'll be easy to write a paper that long on it.

I had to do a few that were that long and some that were longer.

I don't consider it out of the ordinary, really.

it's for a scientific writing class - it basically has to take the form of a well-researched proposal for a solution to some problem. I chose to talk about the endangerment of a certain species of bat in New Jersey -_- I hope I can pull it off - I only have a couple weeks at this point... luckily I'm unemployed so I do have spare time... also luckily, a lot of filler is allowed (and even required), like visual aids, title page, table of contents, etc.

I'm in 3rd year (Who knows what you americans call it) and i've done multiple tasks like that. Granted, one included diagrams, but the majority were in the appendix and it totalled aroung 50 pages when it was done, we had 2 months to do it in.
Its not really that hard if you stick to the topic, keep a nice flow of ideas, and go into detail.

Which is it, a week or two semesters? Or do you mean that he had two semesters but put it off until a week before it was due?

I did something like that, we had 3 months to do a mythology research paper and I did it in 1 night. I got a 4 on it and it dragged my final (which counts as a 5th marking period) down to 30, and now I'm taking two English classes in my senior year. Lesson learned =X

For my cisco academy finale I had to design, implement, assign IP ranges, the whole kitten-kaboodle for a school district., it wasn't graded, just pass or fail, we had 9 weeks to do it...I completed it in 2 days (3 before it was due) and passed.

My computer science dossier(documentation, programming, and implementation) was 162 pages double spaced ...

Cram it full of diagrams, tables, title pages and appendicies. 20 pages isn't that much.

My 3rd year roomate did a 14 page research paper on "*** in Los Angeles" in 24 hrs. (including 7 hours of sleep). Let that be an inspiration to you all.

Edit: *** is not meant to be insulting.

yeah, it really isnt that hard, or uncommon. I had to do at least 3 of them in my undergrad career.

of course, history and politics are a bit paper heavy.

It's really not that bad. As long as it's the kind of thing that warrants a table of contents then it's no sweat.
