    And about the suicide thing: If this is about America purely, we also have over 10x the murders anyway.

    It happens.

    People get lost in the emotion of depression, and seek any means to end it.

    And generally, by the time someone else finds out just how far gone they are, the consequences have already struck.

    What is important?
    You are still alive.
    Keep living.
    that is all.

    Man. I've lost a friend too recently, one of my friends best friends. I hardly know him so agian I can't say.

    But I know that one of his girlfriends killed herself. And the next one also died somehow. He shot himself once and didn't succeed and recently, he was hospitalized (I didn't ask how he did it) and died.

    Suicide is one of the dumber things. It's also one of the things you never expect. Some of the people with the most problems in life, tend to be the funnest, because they've got nothing to lose according to them. You just need to really be there for your friends, and hope they have your back as well.

    I'm one of those people that doesn't know anyone who has made that decision, but I know a lot of people who've been involved in the aftermath of it. And, I've been in that mindset more than once.

    It's all a matter of perspective. If you focus on one issue that's a losing battle, and make it's conquest your only source of purpose, only reason for going on; surrender is a whole lot easyer than defeat, and there just doesn't seem to be any other option.

    My prayers will go out to you tonight. In my experience, not a whole lot else helps.

    We'll you have to be around that insanity point to understand it. I wouldn't see why anybody would ever kill themselves over something, but I know tons of people like me. Demotivated, burnt out, nothing really to look forward too it seems.

    It's really just up to you to craft your own future, and when it comes down to that, people look for quick fixes for their problems. And this is what you get, a world revolving around life and death, and when your tired of it, you can just leave.

    It's really sad that people feel they can fix their problems like this, it leaves nothing but bitter scars on everyone around them. But to them. It's all they can see. You can always change someones life, even if for a while.

    Suicide is an auful way to do it though, there have been times when I have been really low, and as probably most people have at some time in their lives, thought of suicide. Luckily these auful moments last less than a minute, and I can never bring my own resolve to harm myself like that (not that I'd ever want to).

    I guess think before you act kind of applies, though it is hard to think strait in a clouded state of mind. Best way to combat the blues is with someone else. If there is someone else with them, or just someone you know who cares, it can make all the difference.

    But can you even imagine how bad suicide must be? I mean killing yourself isn't a slow process generally, what if you decided against it half way through, or what if you didn't complete it? Then you'd be failing at suicide, I'll bet that's the lowest of lows....

    This is one of the rather nastier side effects of a market-driven capitalistic economy.

    Ever heard of the term "keeping up with the Joneses"?

    American society is built around having the best and most expensive crap. And the best and most expensive crap keeps changing constantly, so you have to frequently buy even more expensive and better crap or you lose your place in society. Some people don't like how American society is driven.

    <img src='http://meninhats.com/comics/20040419.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

    Many people who do commit suicide usually have a very comfortable life. They've got three square meals a day, live in a stable society (I don't expect to get my throat slit due to clashing political views), and a very solid life in general. The problem is that many people are driven to depression because they simply feel out of place from society.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
    We people on the pavement looked at him:
    He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
    Clean favored, and imperially slim.

    And he was always quietly arrayed,
    And he was always human when he talked;
    But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
    "Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.

    And he was rich — yes, richer than a king,
    And admirably schooled in every grace:
    In fine, we thought that he was everything
    To make us wish that we were in his place.

    So on we worked, and waited for the light,
    And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
    And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
    Went home and put a bullet through his head.

    Edwin Arlington Robinson <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Every society has its pariahs. But the weirder thing is that these pariahs are usually the very people that the society admires. They aren't the lepers, retards, homosexuals, Jews of the present day, but rather, they are outwardly respectable people who are deeply admired by most other people. They just simply feel out of place. Most of them feel isolated by others; they feel different. That feeling leads to depression. That depression leads to suicide.

    Suicide is a serious matter that no one can quite understand what it means until it happens to someone you know. You can't help but laugh at a joke you hear about it.

    But seriously - If you just got a call, and the person on the other line amongst other things, struggling their tears and fears just told you that someone you knew had just tooken there own life - What would you say? I gaurentee you something would come out, just because you have to let some air out to know your still alive.

    Take that to heart, and think about what you would say. It's an uneasy feeling, and it should be. And <u>Rapier7</u> basicly wrapped up everything else I could say right now.

I don't kill myself not because life sucks and i don't want to see the next day... but because i feel it would be a waste of societies resources (no matter how much i hate said society), and a waste of many good years of video gaming i could have possibly had. To those who actually go out without anyone's knowledge and kill themselves... it is a form of escape in some way or shape. At age 8 i was going to take a shotgun slug to the temple simply because i got a D in math and i didn't want to face the next day.... obviously i decided to shoot a passing rodent and went inside to play video games. If getting a D doesn't sound bad to you... i was beaten often by my father and mother... and afterwards i was locked in the house for months only to leave for school. This probubly accounts for my lacking of social skills, inability to trust any living sentient creature, and the fact i don't place any value on human lives. (everyone i know is disposable)
  • CatCopCatCop Join Date: 2003-08-28 Member: 20296Members, Constellation
    Trev man. Video games are alot, but they're not everything. Everyone has rough edges around their lives, you shouldn't be as if it's "You agianst the world" because it isn't.

    The world has plenty of awesome people you can get to know. And I gaurentee you can find someone that's not "disposable" if you try. But it all has to start somewhere man. Be a friend a friend would wan't to have, and you'll find it will start doubling back to you.

    That's true DeltaSnipe. Suicide is not a laughing matter... it hurts. It takes a grave wound to drive one to take their own life.

    Did you all know that simply by owning a computer and having a few $$$ in your pocket, you are one of the richest 8 percent of the world population? Yeah, that's right, just by having a PC and a fiver in your wallet, you are richer than 92% of the world.

    Sad now how some people take their life when there is so much to live for... yet our fears and hurt can cloud that. Make us unable to see what we have... what we truely have to be thankful for.

    And rottenapple, I'm not joking.

    Ways I tried to kill myself - how I survived

    2 bottles aspirine- I had the craps for 2 days, but no other effects

    jumped in front of a big rig + trailer that was 10 feet away- the driver managed to swerve AND stop in time

    hanging myself via 1 1/4 inch 5 ply twine - the rope unwound and snapped when I jumped off the table

    Hypothermia- went outside in my PJ's in cold that was 2 degrees below zero with a wind chill of at least 15 below, stayed outside for almost 3 hours. I wound up with a cold.

    Beat self to death- I repeatedly struck myself with a 2x4 untill I blacked out. Well.. I blacked out before I managed to kill myself.

    .357- 8 duds, blew a hole in the cabinet when I threw it to the ground in disgust

    2xCut myself with a razor/exacto knife- one time I lost my nerve, the other time I burried the xacto knife up to the stopper into my forearm, carving my g/f's name into it so my parents would know that by keeping me away from her they killed me. 5 letters in my arm, 2 inches tall each, and an inch deep each. Spanning the whole 10 inches of my forearm- it only bled for a few seconds, and had healed by the time morning came (THIS ONE FREAKED ME THE HELL OUT FOR VERY OBVIOUS REASONS)

    So yeah... I got pretty desparate... when I failed to die when I cut myself like that I realized that something was either really wrong with me, or I wasnt' supposed to die yet. I know now it was not my time... and still isn't. I've also picked up another thing from it that I KNOW I will be scorned for saying, but here goes-

    For those of you that belive in the Natural forces.... Magicka if you will, I am a student of White Magic. No, it's not casting healing spells and using staves to close wounds... real White Magic is about human knowledge. Controlling your metabolism, heart rate, respireation. using pressure points and soothing incantations to reduce the pain from headaches and other ailements. CONVINCING people that the vial of flavored, dyed mineral water you are giving them will cure them. If you put them in the mindset that what they are taking is real medicine, they WILL heal themselves!

    That's my view on life... if you want to live, you will unless He wants you to come to join Him. If you want to die... well... sucks to be you I'm afraid, but one who's mind is made up is difficult to convince otherwise.

    Now, it's 2:45 am and I have to get up early, so I'm going to bed.

    Oh, and DeltaSnipe, it IS you against the world... you and your close knit band of true friends and the love of your life. The ONLY person you can always depend on is you, your love® (IF she's faithful) and possibly your best friend. But mostly it will be you depending on yourself.

    Bullet, you have to get away from that. I know what your saying, you can't live out a peaceful life because your friends with everyone. Someones eventauly plotting agianst you (Believe me... I used to be... Hilariously popular...).

    If you sift through life good enough you'll learn there are people that care enough about you that you don't have to burden through it alone. Even if it's not faith, I'm not that far along that path yet. But I have a few friends that we really back eachother up. And if you can find that point in life, were you have someone that you can lean on eachother (almost on an anarchy basis. If you understand that to an extent: Yours is mine, Mine is yours... There is no divide) we help eachother out in the wildest situations.

    The world may not be the happiest, carefree place around. But you have to understand that most people in life are just looking for someone they can hold onto to. And when you find that, no longer will you be lost in the endless storm of life, but you'll be able to find peace in someway or another.

    And if you still think everyones cold. It has to start with someone... Why not you?

    Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and I had the fortune to learn that one being a suicide-attempt survivor from 6th grade. And for many there are religious aspects on this.

    Suicide is like a deadly dose of drugs.... you don't play around with it. If you find someone even threatening to do such, you should get a hold of the right people <u>immediately.</u>

    I'm afraid I'm a Clockwork Universe kinda guy, so God's interference in his static universe goes against my ideology.

    I had one friend who took his life.
    I knew he didnt felt good and i saw many cuts on his arms.
    He was totally depressed.
    Days went and i decided to speak with him about it.
    So i tried to help him like i used to do with my friends, but it actually didnt help at all.
    He lost his girlfriend, and he was very lonely before that girl.
    And he dont want to get back.
    Some days later, he wrote a letter and next to it, it was him with some kind of poison and alcohol.

    A friend of mine was neighbor with a 12 years old kid who also took his life, he wasnt popular in school and many other kids always teased him.
    He was a good friend with the friend i know, because she knew he didnt felt good about his life. She was pity about him. That's why those two became good friend neighbors.
    Then suddenly she havent seen him for a while, so she went over to check after him and his parents said he took suicide.

    EDIT:
    For those who joke about suicide, harm yourself badly and try to laugh about it.
