Freespace 2 Massive Battles
i was bored yesterday so i decided to fool around with the FRED 2 editor to create some battles and i came up with this

dude this game is from 1999 and its one of the best in the space sim genre.
and the game isnt free, its rare now and can be found for $100 on ebay/amazon, online.
I don't see a colossus in your fleet. Also, if the fleet was smart, they would surround the ship because the deadly cannons are only in front.
edit: For me, Freespace is the only space sim worth playing, even today.
NOTE I DO NOT CONDONE FILESHARING OR DOWNLOADING OF FILES CLASSIFIED AS "ABANDONWARE" BECAUSE OF THE LEGAL AND ETHICAL QUAGMIRE "ABANDONWARE" ENTAILS.
the game isnt abandonware, it USED to, now it isnt, since volition released the limited edition version of it that goes for about 100bucks.
anyways i got more shots, next shots im taking will be with a nebula in the background so it will be brighter, i added more stars in this one.

Beats the hell out of me.
The best thing about Freespace 2 was that they got everything that is cool about space battles and put them into it. Giant (and I mean HUUUUGE) spaceships slugging it out with lasers while fighters (you) dodge around taking out missiles headed towards your ship's hull and enemy fighters.
The story is awesome too - never a dull moment, and plenty of mystery. I remember the cutscene in the original Freespace where you first saw a Shivan. That was cool.
BTW, nice pics. Put a nebula behind it and reduce the confusion factor (make them easier to understand) and they'll be even better.
That lucifer battle was fuggin HARD. And did anyone else catch how closely they resembled Dragoons from Starcraft?
Not that I know of, sadly. The software detects my card as D3D, and won't let me run in openGL. If anyone has a solution, please let me know.

The only suggestion I have is to check fansites like <a href='http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/hlp/' target='_blank'>HLP</a> to see if they have a solution.
To everyone else, yes FS2 is great. I just finished* it recently, and I remember it looked quite different from the screenshots above. Anyone who has FS2 should consider looking up the Freespace 2 source code projects; a lot of higher-poly models and better quality art/effects has been made for the game by now. I'd type more, but everything I could say is in a somewhat recent thread also in off-topic.
And about the freeware vs. $100 on online stores/auctions question: I have seen a price like that for the limited edition. I don't know what's included, but for a fan who wants that sort of collectors item, I can definitely understand the price.
