New update with +5armor for marines
Hey,
I and many other players are strictly against this new update, if you watch a combat game 10 minutes, you will see that now 8 from 10 times the marine only rush alien base without a chance for the aliens.
I dond't know if you guys already discuss that topic before, but I havn't found it yet.
Plz write some comments in here, experience etc. from you.
I want to know how u guys are handling this and how u think about it.
Thanks for writing,

Have the aliens learn to dodge, and voila! A counter!

Or, you could just parasite once and negate the entire buff...

I've been parasiting a lot

I have no idea how 1 extra bite on each marine - on the first encounter only - can unbalance the game so much as to make Marines succeed for each rush on the hive that they do.
Get a lerk, spore each marine for a second or two, and it's done. Get a skulk (boy, that's rare), and parasite each marine.
It really is not that hard.

Lerks and skulks are incredibly useless in this new update, for some reason. It seems that the average skulk's score is horribly under what they would be in 3.02. And I also think that it really is reversing the roles of the two species. The TSA shouldn't have the advantage to drop two shotguns, rush the hive and win. And just now, I've seen a two hive lockdown at FIVE minutes. That is simply put, not right.

Easy solution. Play the Skulk in a stealthy manner rather than being agressive. This means even moving around in vents often. Parasite every marine you see unparasited.

believe it or not... the devs and playtesters care a lot more about NS maps.

and in my opinion, who cares if it ruins co.

I disagree 100% with all of that. I play lerk a lot, and I haven't noticed a difference. In fact, lerk vs marine combat hasn't changed one bit. It takes 3 bites against an a0 marine either way, and after spores, it probably takes 2 bites either way. As others have said, skulk isn't much harder, parasite first, camp around the next corner, you will know exactly when they are coming so you can jump out at them (or something similar, depending on the situation).

the patch really hasnt changed balance much where it was neccisary (at good clan level) all it did was beat down on the few skulks left that still couldnt get many kills in pubs after the massive 3.0f buffs. Infact because so much more parasiting goes on now in clan matches (and there was alot before) it pretty much negates any kind of advantage the change gave except in a straight rush situation or for single marines capping.

Guess it's time for skulks to learn how to ambush and skulk around instead of charging head on to a marine.

Besides you already have at
1 point: leap
2 points: lerk, focus
3 points: fade, xeno
4 points: onos

Marines needed the buff badly, and NS > CO. It's the battlefield after boot camp.
At any rate, aliens are so horrendously overpowered in CO it doesn't really matter much anyway.

They just made the aliens stronger now..

Before this, skulks would never parasite and just rush the entire base..

now the skulks are parasiting as fast as a Nsplayer fires his hmg...

HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSE TO SET UP A PG WITH ALL THOSE PARASITEs!!?!?!?

i say, this was a boost to alien as the marines are getting parasited left and right..

I thought the change was dodgy at first but i reckon its good now because aliens are beginning to use parasite more often and learn to ambush besides its amusing to get lots of parasite or leap kills, rushing in biting twice then switching to parasite or leap and finishing them of quick especially since you are able to parastie faster than the 3rd bite that is required.

Oh noooooo.

Well...if this is bad for co and good for ns...we should definately kill the +5 armor points!

COMBAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN NS!
doesnt everyone agree with me on this one?

If that's the case, then at least with everyone playing a more intelligent game style, it should be easier to balance with other changes, right?
• PRTePRTe Join Date: 2003-10-25 Member: 21919Members
come on...

a) it's just one parasite extra only if it is armor 0
b) it encourages aliens to parasite
c) aliens are still overpowered anyway
d) balance for NS is more important than CO
e) how the patch affects you will vary from player to player depending on where you play who you play with etc. everyone will have different experiences

I'll lay this out in simple terms.

If you ...

... belittle another user's playing style ...

... imply reduced intelligence from someone making a point about Co ...

... declare someone else's opinion "unworthy" because it does not reflect your own ...

... I will ensure that your stay on these forums is shorter than you'd expect.

By now, I honestly couldn't care less about "everyone's" opinion on whether Co or Classic are more important. Members of our audience enjoy either, so we'll do our best to preserve and prolong their enjoyment. Deal with it.

On to the actual points. I think it is becoming apparent by the impact a slight armor increase how close we really are to the 'sweet spot' of balance. It's an unfortunate side-effect that pretty much any tweak will now sway favor in some gameplay environments.
The armor buff was mainly put in place to reduce the viability of straight Focus charges and to generally emphasize tactical skulking. It appears now that both aims have been fulfilled to an extent. We will see how to move from here come next patch.

Marines aint that much harder to kill if not any harder at all.

just get a gd strat e.g.:

get 2 skulks to parasite a group of marines so buff = non-existent and then have the other skulks rush the group. depending on skill level there could be the group of marines dead aswell as 1 or 2 skulks or a failed rush where all skulks and 1 or 2 marines died.

But usually the marines will lose to a few parasites and skulk rush

Parasite is getting so anoyingly common that it feels like lerks got their spikes back. I mean really.

It used to be a few parasite here and there from experienced skulks who wanted to make sure they knew where I was if they failed their ambush.
Now it´s a whole other story. I walk down a hallway and get spotted by lets say 3 skulks. Pre patch that would be 2 parasites (maybe even 3). Now its more like 9+ parasites. OUCH!!

But I still like the change. And it´s good to see so much more ambushing when you play alien.

of all the single patches released over the course of ns, I have to say I think this is by the far the best.

Sure it has no big features, but the resulting effects I've seen on some servers is fantastic.

One of the biggest 'problems' a lot of people have with Co is the deathmatch style stat-whoring type of game they perceive it to be. I myself am a big fan of co, and often I'd agree that the previous description was accurate. However, more and more I'm seeing aliens organise good levels of teamwork on co servers.

Just this morning, we had a match on faceoff, and this random guy i've never seen on the server said "i'll go up into the top whole and parasite their team constantly and will then get adrenaline so can do it better - you guys stay bottom and keep whoring"

This sort of behavior is becoming more and more common... the team work levels are on an increase, and that is a good thing in every possible way in my opinion

+5 armour is possibly one of the best things that has happened for ages. Increased teamwork, encouragement to play the Skulk more intelligently AND a debuff on Focus?

Stop it, I might die.

Okay,
to the first answers, u guys don't need to make me bad.
And thx for all NICE critical answers, i'll try to work on my art of attacking marines.
Normally i jumped in a grout of them, ran in a circle and made, that they block themselve .
That doesn't work anymore, but today i plaed onos and I think the reason was okay.

And to the guys who say NS is better than CO...
I think you guys are right, but i have anyone who can explaine me NS and in game most time there is no one who wants to explaine it to me.
I still learn it, but most time i play CO.
I doidn't know that there is so much difference between NS and CO, sry 2 all.

Heh, this thread proves that if anyone is promoting the CS mentality it definately isn't the guy that started the thread, who happens to be a CO player. I find that amusing.

As for the change, it really didn't change much, it just promotes skulks to play as skulks should play. If you want to fix the problem that you're running into try this, don't engage any marines at the start of the game. Your goal is simply to parasite marines as much as you can, when you think you have parasited enough marines then you need to parasite a few more. In fact, if you do this alone (one skulk) then you can probably personally negate the change. Why? You're making it so marines can only take 2 bites just as they did before, plus everyone knows where they are at at any given time.

Don't believe me? Try it. Go into a CO server you frequent and sit in a vent at one of the chokepoints on the map. Sit there and parasite for a good 5 minutes and watch as all of the players who think in a box STILL get kills because you are doing their job for them.
• Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
Basically what everyone has said:
-more parasiting, which helps aliens.
-marines survive one more bite, which help marines if the aliens don't parasite.
-The parasited marines help each other
-The change is not that significant, it's just 5 points of armor.

In combat, the aliens actually parasite, and don't rush. Aliens defend, marines attack. That's the way it's supposed to work, that's how it finally works.

If the "many other players" would express themselves here, they're free to argue with what seems the majority of forumites, and who knows, if your point stands, there might just be your -5 armor.
• SkySky Join Date: 2004-04-23 Member: 28131Members
The fact that I can go on any given ns_ server and here cries of "marines are overpowered" and "aliens are overpowered" within 10-15 minutes of each other leads me to believe that neither side is overpowered. What logic.
