Currently in my graphics class we are making t shirts from a computer design, and what i was wondering is, what the legality is of me making a shirt about Natural Selection?

The law is only concerned with money in this case ... are you going to make money off of it? No? Well alright then.
Think of a kid drawing porky pig in 2d art class ... if he sold the drawing he could be in trouble, but if it just a hobby and completely for yourself no one would care.
In other legal news, Smuckers tried to patent their crustless PBandJ sandwich ... seriously they wanted rights to PB and J sandwiches that were copies of raviollies =-p
