Hmm, a carnival of hypocrisy has emerged.

Tom Delay, the self-appointed medical expert and moralist, had his own brain damaged father's vent shut off. His father showed far more signs of consciousness than Terri. And then this enemy of "trial lawyers" hired a trial lawyer and sued a company who made the equipment his father hurt himself on for 250,000 dollars.

The Fransicans who stand with Terri's parents? They did keep their brain damaged founder alive for 12 years, but when he got pneumonia, they refused to intubate him (a tube airway) and let him die.

And Mr. Schindler? He let his 79 year old mother pass away: and she wasn't even brain damged, just had pneumonia and kidney failure that could have been cured by dialysis and a temporary vent!

Seems like the moralistic rhetoric was a little overblown, no?

Which would be fine and dandy if she hadn't made her wish to be allowed to die under these circumstances clear to her husband and two other people who testified as much in a court of law.

They can mourn her for all eternity but they have ZERO rights over her. 2 reasons.

    1. In Floridas own law the Court Appointed Guardian than Husband are the top 2 people who have authority to carry out their wishes. You know where the parents lie?

    DEAD LAST

    2. When a woman gets married atleast in CHRISTIAN faith. The father gives the daughter away to his new son. As in he no longer has a say over her.

Which means the Schindlers don't have a leg to stand on. Which is also the reason the courts have ruled in favor of Mr. Schiavo <b>19</b> times

That's a fair question. But then, should any human being be allowed to remain in such a state for the rest of their lives? It seems like a form of abuse to me.

I mean, the parents obviously don't want to "lose" their daughter but the fact is they lost her 15 years ago. They really need to move on; and Terri needs some peace don't you think ? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I thought Terri wasn't even self-aware? She's pretty much a vegetable, as far as I know. If she is self-aware, surely she wouldn't be starved to death?

As for making the parents move on; isn't that their decision to make? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't believe it is their decision to make (aside from the legality thereof).

And Terri is a vegetable, for arguments sake I introduced the possiblity of self-awareness a while back.

It is obvious that they need outside intervention here, as they are incapable of dealing with the reality of their daughter's condition. The daughter IMO should not be a human "plant" that makes their parents feel better; but should be allowed to pass and remembered as she was before the heart-attack she suffered.

To keep her alive is IMO a form of abuse, and frankly goes against human decency and dignity.

Even though they can't...I think they should give her a lethal injection. So much of a better death (to watch, we all know Terri wouldn't really...care...either way).

But lethal injection is so expensive, it would be far cheaper to just smother her, hell, the pillows are <i>right there</i>. But people generally aren't that practical when it comes to things like killing a loved one.

So has the discussion gone from should she be killed to <i>how</i> should she be killed? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> If there is a hell I'll meet you there...

I can't even trudge through half this topic without shaking my head in awe at your ability to dig in your heals, put up your dukes, and proceed to punch yourselves in the face until you fall down in a bloody slump...

One note, Pepe, it was a very bad idea in the beginning to ask for them to keep it civil while tacking on a rather blatent attack at those who don't follow your own code of morality. Take it from a Catholic: you can attract more flies with honey than vinegar!
