Blind Guardian is the ****. First song I heard was Nightfall, still my favorite song by them. It's just so great, and... epic. Yeah, epic.

I have two of their cds, Nightfall in Middle-Earth and Follow the Blind.

Iced Earth is awesome too. I have The Glorius Burden. My favorite song on that cd is When the Eagle Cries, really moving stuff there. High Water Mark is right up there in "epic" with Nightfall. A friend of mine saw Iced Earth in concert, said it was the single most greatest thing he ever saw. They had actual cannons on stage that would "fire" during the begining of High Water Mark. I envy him.

The Glorious Burden is their worst album yet. Uninspired songwriting, average instrumental work, and while Tim Owens rocks, I miss Matt Barlow.

Ask yourself what someone who gets nothing but radio-ware would think about rock. "Hmm... I dunno. Doesn't seem to consist of more than three strings and a single drum, honestly. Oh, and most singers aren't worth a thing."

I'm not very into rap and Hip-Hop, but from my limited experience with some of the better German artists (Jazzkantine, anyone?) in the field, I can attest that there is very instrumental rap.

You could well call Rage Against the Machine rap. They pretty much talk over a beat, the difference being they actually played the beat on instruments with skill as opposed to synthing it up. Does that count as instrumental rap?
Despite my hatred for synthesized music, Coolio and Run DMC are supreme, and sometimes Eminem even churns out good songs (song.)

Why not throw Pete Townshend and Eric Clapton in there as well?

As far as guitar playing goes, i have yet to hear anyone play a guitar better than Hendrix. It is hard to explain, he just had this special talent with the guitar that i have never seen reproduced. There are so many examples of this, but it is really noticable in songs like Manic Depression and Purple Haze.

Page was definitely the better songwriter (Look no further than the battle of evermore) and i personally prefer The Who, Cream and Zeppelin over Hendrix, but i have yet to hear anything rival his emotional guitar playing. Shame that he died so early.

As an aside, does anyone else listen to Damien Rice? Bloody brilliant singer/songwriter.

You had to go and **** off Jimi now, didn't you.

    loled

I didn't realize there were any instruments in rap. I just hear a synthesized bassline and random sound effects. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Are you referring to Hendrix there? He was definitely not a rap artist, to say the least. The best guitarist ever, yes. Rap artist, no. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Dear god, where did I say Hendrix was a rapper?

Hendrix is more known for his showmanship, which is why he's so famous and commonly referred to as the best guitarist of all time. I personally believe there were other better guitarists, but not many.

My favorites are Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and John Fogerty. Not to say Hendrix was bad, but these guys just strike me as more aesthetically pleasing.

EDIT: I enquiring about NolSinkler's dislike of the guitar and fondess for rap.

<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't know, I hardly listen rap closely, but the few times I did I tried to pick up signs of a guitar or something. It's true, there are instruments in some rap (P. Diddy rapping along to Page's guitar in Kashmir), but for the most part I think the music is synthesized?

Could anyone with more knowledge in the subject give their expertise?
