[wip] High Poly Res Tower

<div class="IPBDescription">PC: Too Damn High >_<</div> When creating high-poly default models were all the rage, I had begun work on matching Hi-poly res towers and res nodes. My interest on them eventually waned and I stopped working on them. Now I feel like modelling again so I've made quite a bit of progress on the RT. However, I feel I've gone a bit overboard on adding details so I'm going to start reducing the poly's. This is how it looks like before I reduce the poly count:

<img src='http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-7/767172/too-high-poly.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

The polycount on that is 1992. With the all additional details that are still missing from the model, I seriously need to cut down the PC. Ideally I want the final model to be below 2000. Realistically it's probably going to be ~2500.

    Err.. that green looking thing at the leg? Ignore that, that was my attempt at lighting the scene <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    If not then point it out to me.

    too bad my pc would never be able to handle having those scattered around a map, because it looks great. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    go the chop! get it down to a usable level pleeeease... but you have to keep those vents on the legs. they are teh awesomeness. Hope you're putting some work into the centre of the node too, it looks a bit plain =/

    excited to see how it comes out ^_^

    I'm content with 1670 polys as more or less the lowest I'm willing to go without losing anymore details. Poly count may go down a negligible amount while more work is done but that would be it.

    Any comments before I make with the UV mapping?

    mother f'er! I've been waiting for this for soooooooo freaking long! Use the SpeOps2 textures as a side texture pack for those who are using the SpecOps2 structures as well as default.

    Sexy job man, now I just need high poly default models and the game will be sexy with defaults <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Thats not high poly, high poly is 3500+

    But, its good detail. I say squeeze in all the detail you can, as high poly models are ment for high end machines <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    As I finally fixed my NS FPS problem (20 fps on an x800 XT is so <i>not</i> cool), I'll definitely be using this model. Good job!

    I don't think a high poly count is that big of a deal, since the most you ever see at a time is 2. But thats only on a few maps.

    You have a point there actually. With the original details on the legs, it "only" weighs in at ~2040 polys. That's less additional polys than one default sentry. Which one would you guys prefer? Higher PC or stick with the 1670 one?

    Definitely the higher PC. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Can we get some more shots of that armoury, too? Awesome.
