77 actually, and I don't do it unless someone else has volunteered to drop the hive.

10 for gorge
30 for OC
20 for DC
15 for RT
2 for regen
77

This cuts them off from the side of that map for a long time.

I don't do it all the time, first of all. Mostly in smaller games where it's the most effective, because like you said, that is a lot of res. In smaller games, I can get that res if everyone else does their job too by getting an RT at the beginning. This gives us a whole side not to worry about for quite a while, by which time we should have enough heavier lifeforms to defend everything, if my teammates know what they're doing.

What can I say? The times I've done it, it's always worked great.

It generally seems to be the consensus that OCs are placed apart, and also out of the field of view of the marines coming around the corner. (The exception being WOL's.)

btw, This "lame" word is killing me.

Thats the plan, zephyr.

If marines can't see them, they'll rush into a room and get slaughtered. They can't shoot them down, and a GLer will still need SOMEONE to go in to bait the chambers so he can get his angles right.

So you're talking minimum 3 marines (bait, gl, rine covering the gl) to take out a room of 3-4 OC. Add in a skulk and those marines are almost certainly dead. At the same time, thats three marines less who could be sieging your hive, or something more constructive.

Sieging down 3 OC works in your favour, its a big waste of res for marines. It also slows marine movement, which means you can be expanding elsewhere. OCs are very good to use if you can use them right, but they will never replace players. In fact, you get the most out of your OCs if you have a player near them to exploit the marines.
