Ok, here's a rant that you don't want to read, so if you've gotten this far, I suggest you stop reading.

If you are still reading, be prepared to hear pointless stories of my lazieness apparently.

About 45 minutes ago, I got up and asked my brother and mother what they would like for dinner, which I allways end up cooking because my brother is a lazy little **** and my mom has a hard time standing up/walking, which makes me sound like an insensitive jerk, but I don't care. Any way, it takes 45 minutes to come to the conclution that nobody knows what they want, or if they do, my brother will throw a fit that nobody wants to listen to. Anyway, it comes down to my mom leaving to get KFC, where she's at now.

Somthing similar happens just abut every nite.

During the 45 minutes of me trying to find out what should be had for dinner, I got into an argument with my mom, who buys things that she either cant cook, or doesn't want to, that take a lot of prep time and require a lot of attention. I beleive that food is food, and I'm not picky about it. Why spend 45 minutes to an hour, or more! preparing somthing that I will have eaten in 10 minutes? I like simple. Things with minimal prep time that you either microwave, or stick in the oven for a bit. I dislike preparing sides, and I hate cleaning up afterwords, and I just want to eat. I don't care if dinner comes in a box or a bag, or if it's made from scratch, I just don't feel like doing #3.

Food is a necisity to living, that's why I do it. I'll eat just about anything, it's all good.

Does this make me lazy? or as I view it, efficiant?

To me, your just being practical. I'm pretty much the same. All I want to do is either bung a pizza in the oven for 20 minutes, or just a plate of chips in 10, or if I'm desperate a tin of soup in the microwave. Anything that requires constant checking and adjust of cooking temperatures annoys me.

However I did miss things like roast chicken or a joint of pork.

If I could eat only spaghetti, I would. I don't mind cooking spaghetti, it's easy.

And spacer, I get no satisfaction out of eating because I made things, I do it because I have to. If it tastes good, then that's a plus. I think Hot Pockets taste good, I could live off Hot Pockets!

Come up with designated meal days. Might I suggest the standard loaf of meat Thursday with the side of ranch mashed potatoes and asparagus and/or peas?

Well, if you have to cook, screw 'em. They're eating what you make. And if your brother doesn't like it, he doesn't eat that night. Simple as that.

Caboose, we're on the same track man. Food is something that makes your hunger pains subside and provides you with energy to get to the next meal. Me? I'm a pasta freak ... spaghetti, elbows, mac & cheese - wutEvuh. Or better yet, a sandwich now and maybe a bowl of cereal later. Cooking's a waste of time and fancy meals are a waste of money.

Oh yeah, I got 2 Second Chance coupons from Hardees today - no cooking at ALL tomorrow - w00h00!

There's no greater pleasure in having a bunch of friends around and cooking them all a really nice curry, with some tandori chicken on the side and some cucumber and yogurt dip for the softies.

I cook for myself and my girlfriend every night and I enjoy doing so. Here's my list of most common meals:

Spaghetti Bolognaise,

Burritos, no, not microwave burritos,

Steak,

Sausages,

Shepard's pie,

Potato and leek soup,

Stir fry,

Curry.

You can keep your stinking lazy, easy, ready-to-eat, waistline-expanding, puréed, crappy fast food. Though to quite an extent I agree with the point you're making, a small bit of this post needed removing, for what I know you'll agree are obvious reasons. People just can't be arsed to look after themselves, preferring instead to go to your local McDonalds and get a Quater Pounder w/ Cheese. I cook for myself almost every night...I just don't have the patience for anything complicated, so I cook simple stuff like...well. Meat with the fastest cooking side I can find. If I had patience, I'd cook huge meals, cuz I love cooking. Alas, I get angry at the 15 minutes it takes to cook sausages...

I kinda understand what Scythe is talking about, but I don't run around with a crowbar, so I can't be certain. Though when all you have is a microwave, you can't do too much fancy cooking.

note: I know that was removed, I laughed full heartedly upon reading that though and didn't find it the least bit offensive. The world seems to be full of anti American sentiment any way. <3 I'm glad I could brighten your day Scythe

I don't much care for McDonnalds, they do have decent salads though. I can deal with making my own burgers, they're nice and easy, as are toasted cheese sandwiches. I tend to stay away from crappy fast food. I prefer the market fresh sandwitched from Arbys myself. I also love Chinese food

Full meals in a box, such as Banquets Homestyle Bakes that include your grain, meat and vegies are also good.

Hamburger/Tuna/Pork Helper is good, but the Tuna is especially good. I'll, on occation, stick a chicken on the rotisserie. They're slogan is "Set it and forget it" that's my kind of cooking.

Any cooking that invloves too much multitasking is what really bugs me. Meals where I have to fix a main dish, that itself is composed of several things that I have to prepare beforehand, as well as side dishes.

When I get em, steam goes fast, throw it on the grill, put some dehydrated mashed otatos in the microwave and you're all set, nice and easy.

Oh, and cleaning up afterwords sucks too.

I'm with scythe. I can cook, and take pleasure in doing so. quite often i am left to my own devices for dinner, and never have lunch or breakfast prepared for me. I sometimes cook for others and generally enjoy them appreciating my efforts, provided they don't go on and on about it or make snide comments about the apocalypse coming after dinner (hence i never cook for my stepmother)

Having said that, i can understand that if the people you are cooking for don't appreciate your efforts & complain unnecessarily i can easily imagine being very discouraged. my feelings are more of pity than anger or outrage. do yourself a favor, and when you move out on your own make sure you have at least a rudimentary kitchen, and make yourself up a plate of bacon & eggs for breakfast, or maybe a simple pasta dish for dinner one day. I garuntee you'll enjoy it more than any meal you've ever eaten from a box. (provided you follow a recipe or get advice so you cook it properly)

Not lazy or efficient. Taste just isn't that much of a pleasure to you. It's sandwhich.

Edit: I stand corrected. I've been spelling that wrong for five years. Oi vey. Pwned. Unless it actually IS sandwhich here in Canada.
