Technology Vs Evolution

Technology wins
Just a sorta quick post coz im tired as.

Ive noticed that aliens are getting ripped these days, in the last 2 days i was in a game where the aliens won i think twice. Now this isnt some winging post about having a lame team and hence loosing, i was in some games where the skill level wasin favour of the aliens but they still lost.
Basically if all players abilities were even i think the marines would win 9 times out of 10.

Why? basically i think because of the marines dominance at the crucial part of the game (the begining). Back in the day the begning wasnt such a big issue, but with games scarcley lasting more than 15 minutes the start of the game is VITAL. And no one can argue the marines hold a distinct advantage at this time in the game, especially if the commander follows the usual path of armour 1 asap.

Anyway if the alien team is half decent then theyll temp it up, however due such low starting res (just enuf 4 a rp and thats all) these temping gorges often get killed b4 even erecting the rp, or dieng shortly after. I know this is an issue for team work, but to put it simply no one bothers about protecting gorges anymore, so their on their own. This wouldnt be so bad if the gorges were able to errect some kind of defence. But the oc's are next to useless (since early game gorge can only afford 1 ! even having 2 is almost uselss) if there are 2 or more marines they can easily be taken down in no time. And furthermore a temping gorge dosnt have enuf res to errect any ocs anyway. And im talking about the first 3 minutes of a game.

I liked it back in the older betas when gorges actually played a role, and had enough res to first build and OC to defend themselves whilst they built RP's but now this task of defence falls onto the fragile skulks who without dc's are at an inherent disadvantage against armour 1.

Just a few quick ideas to perhaps even things up a tad without having to overhaul the whole game. Perhaps mappers think about making darker maps, but make them in strategic places not the entire map, give temping gorges a hit of say 5 res to encourage them to oc b4 putting down res. I dunno i just think something has to be done about this early game dominance because the games in ns are so short now its actually getting quiet boring at times.
(wont stop me playing tho! )

(Note: this only applies to large games. Small games seem to be balanced or even in alien favor)

Seems like early alien defense costs too much compared to marine defense.

You send the marines out basically the second they spawn to pressure/spawn camp the hive. The aliens blow all their time and res on defending it and never get a chance to expand. On the flip side marines can just drop mines, an eletrified TF, or keep around one marine with a shotty for very good early defense.

Alien defense has a substantial cost and can be defeated without the attacker taking much damage, meaning you need manpower to go along with it. So you need aliens guarding the hive, but you don't need marines guarding base (just an eletrified TF or mines... it makes it easy for marines to ignore their own base and keep up the pressure.

In beta 6, we're going to see faster alien spawns in large games so that might help out.

...Or you could always play in smaller games. I think NS is designed for around 14 players.

You couod, youknow...actually use the manpower to defend your nodes, ambush, use the gorge as bait, or maybe even *gasp* pressure the stuff they have!

Electrified TF? *gasp* well, that's like the cost for a1/w1 wow! All in return for protection of a small radius that the aliens may not get to for a veyr long time!

Mines? They're cool, if a bit expensive at 10 res a pack. Just step around them and be careful.

Leave a man at base with a shotty? Classic strategy often used back in the 1.04 days, but that does leave them a man down, meaning they can pressure you less. One man down is a lot.

Aliens can run faster and cover more of the map. Use that to your advantage. Get to places and set up ambushed by using TEAMWORK. Once your Fades and second hive are up and running, the situation is completely reversed as marines get slaughtered.

I find combat is balanced, however Classic does sway more towards the marines, in my own experiences anyway.

if the aliens are stopped from getting fades and/or second hive, then marines usually win. but fades with 2 hives are devastating to the marines

combat is the mos tunbalanced part of NS. Classic is slightly skewed towards marines depending on the map.

Buff skulks and nerf fades ftw.

One topic on this at a time - OK. Two?
