Old Marine-getting-into-cc Animation

<div class="IPBDescription">Why was it removed?</div> See attached pic, the hitboxes and bones are still in the CC model, but the marine isn't rendered and I haven't seen noticed it until now. Anyone know why it was removed??

The animation being referred to is when someone gets into the CC. -_-

I think Zunni has added an idea to re-implement the anim to the 'ideas for the upcoming version' subforum.

I have also been wondering, ever since I watched the 1.0 trailer with footage of the guy getting in.

An animation would just be eye candy... still it'd be nice.... maybe on the HL2 engine? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

climbing animations for onoses would be pureley eyecandy too, but it just makes things look more ... "finished" you know?

As far as I remember.. there was a bug in the the comm chair would always be open, even with someone in the chair. It would reset to closed when attacked, only opening briefly after each subseqent attack. I assue this was fixed, but now it doesn't open atall? If that is what you're talking about <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Sadly, we must all have the point where reality meets game. Although I'm sure I remember seeing that animation work, I'm surprised I never even noticed it was gone until its been pointed out. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Sadly this is true. The onos simply doesn't have the faculties to climb ladders.

I remember the old CC animations from like 1.04. You bit the CC and it would spring open for a moment then back shut over and over. Weird.

im guessing to fix that bug, they had to remove the animation

Thats why the good maps use ramps! It would be eye candy but it'd be sweet eye candy.

The funny thing was that when you got in the comm chair as a marine, you'ld then watch yourself get into the CC in commander view.

I remember a suggestion a while back when 3.0 beta first started, that Onos should't be allowed to climb ladders at all. It would certainly make things...interesting. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

If you can't see it ingame, shouldn't the hitboxes be removed? They just create lag.

Well asuming the comander view in the chair is facilitated by cameras and monitors of some type, that should be entirely possible. Just like watching yourself steal candy in one of those cornerstores with the black and white TV screens <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I was just giving an example of an alien-named planet; chosen at random, naturally.

Incidentally, and completely un-related to my previous post- calling someone the shortened 3-letter word for a homosexual is still frowned upon by the whacky VB anti-"swearing"

Yeah, I remember wondering about that when NS2.0 came out and I noticed the chair didn't react the same way it used to (to both getting in and from getting hit). Would be nice if they could add it back in, I think it would be even cooler if they'd actually show an animation of the person stepping into the com chair, then sitting down, then closing it (theoretically it wouldn't be any more difficult to impliment than the regular animation, although it would be best to add some code in to tell which side the player entered from so it could do a different animation depending on the side).

For the onos climbing ladders thing...I think removing their ability to climb them at all might make the game pretty interesting (although giving them a higher jump to compensate might also work). It would make them seem like the "ground attack force", and not just a regular alien with more hitpoints. The only problem is that the maps aren't designed to take that into consideration, so they'd have to be changed signifigantly to keep the onos from getting stuck. So for now it's not really an option...although I think it would be nice to see SOME kind of animation for an onos going up a ladder. Sure, it wouldn't be realistic, but it would be better than seeing this onos practically float through the air up a ladder. Maybe make it so it looks like he's walking on the wall? I think that would be kinda entertaining <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Sure it'd be nice, but with NS getting over 1.6 million (correct me if I'm wrong, but thats the last thing I can remember) lines of code. Even the smallest feature adds bugs. Besides, chances are that unless the player is in the exact position, it will look like he teleported to enter the chair. Personally I'd like to see the animation go back into 3.0, but I'm sure theres a reason why it was taken out. The fact that they've put 3rd person reload animations *finally* into B6 is a sign of the polishing that is being done...

Oh, and on another note, spacecows don't climb ladders, the automagically lift onto them and spin around randomly while +moveup'ing them. For this reason, most maps use ramps to avoid seeing the underbelly of the onos (open up the player5 model in HLMV...)
