Hmmm..

My initial nick online (back in the day) was ^KoKane^.. way way way back when.. I got that from a rapper who was on Ruthless Records who I really liked and put the ^'s around it because I was constantly in a battle with another KoKane on Efnet (IRC) so I kept the ^'s when I changed nicks. I changed nicks because a 25+ year old with a nick like ^KoKane^ is teh lose... So....

Zunni came from a book:

Tad Williams's Otherland series, Zunni was a member of "the Wicked Tribe" who were a bunch of young kid hackers that had way too much energy In Otherland their avatars were yellow monnkeys. I felt at the time like it matched my personality and view of the computer world so I emailled Tad and asked if I could use it. He (surprisingly) emailled back and said "Sure" so I've had this nick for about 6 years now...

Ever played Team Fortress?

Knows that annoying medic that enters the spawn in 2forts and infects everyone, and concs his way out?

Yeah.. that's how I got the name.

A lot of people hate me. I take that as a compliment, when people said, "get the #@#@ out of spawn you damn newbie medic"

Come to think of it, it's actually a pretty childish and stupid name, but since I already used it for 5 years, oh well.

NEX is a feminine noun in Latin for "Violent Death." It's evolved into a masculine and feminine life process involving a constant state of death and rebirth through experience. Is it violent? Only when I whoop your **** in game.

At the time I chose the nickname, I was heavily into underground metal (Emperor, Zyklon, Myrkskog, The Project Hate, Strapping Young Lad, Hypocrisy, Meshuggah, etc) and the simplicity of the word, in combination with the rather destructive definition, was simply too much to resist. It's also an added benefit that the word rhymes perfectly with "sex," therefore indirectly picking up the sexual vibe.

Since "NEX" was taken on these forums, I went with "illuminex," which comes from the mixing of "Illuminati" and "NEX." At the time, I was extremely interested in the Illuminati, the idea of being an "Illuminated" ruler of the world.

Allow to explain the ways of the Necroscope:

Necroscope is an awesome book (series of) by Brian Lumley.
They're on Amazon.com for as little as $3. And come highly recommended by many people.

As for the meaning of "Necroscope" - well it's kinda hard
to explain without giving any parts of the awesome story
away but here goes.

Harry Keogh was born with a unique ability that allows
him to communicate with the dead. He's not a necromancer
(although there's talk of them throughout the books.)
The dead enjoy talking to The Necroscope because it gives
them someone to talk to after death. The body decomposes
and becomes one with the ground but the soul lives on in
the location of the body. (Weather it's burial ground or urn.)

Here's the summary for book 1:
"From the undead vampire in the Romanian mausoleum, Boris Dragosani tries to
draw an evil force so powerful he will gain supremacy in the ultra-secret paranormal
agency he works for in Russia. His official job is as a NECROSCOPE - his specialty is
tearing secrets from the souls of newly-dead traitors.

And England too has her necroscope - her communicator with the dead. When Harry
Keogh is recruited from by the British Secret Service to take on the paranormal
menace from behind the Iron Curtain, the stage is set for the most horrifying, violent
supernatural confrontation ever... "

In the past 3 weeks I have read books 1 through 4 and book 5
should be arriving from Amazon.co.uk in tomorrow's post.

If you're reading this Caz, you've ruined my life by introducing
me to such engrossing books!

Ive always been Hyperion2010 since the days of empire earth heaven, i wanted to be Hyperion but someone already had that name, so ive stuck with Hyperion2010 for recognition purposes, and now I shortened it so that it doesnt look so funky. Originally Hyperion came from the books by dan simmons (i think) (though ive never read them...) and it works well, because Hyperion is also the greek Titain of light.

• RuByRuBy Join Date: 2002-12-12 Member: 10732Members
RuBy is short for Rubber Ducky which used to be my nickname when I played CS. People would call me Ruby or Rubert for short on the French servers I used to admin, so I've been using this one for games ever since. For some reason I decided to sign up as RuBy when I first discovered these forums but this is the only place I use it.

a-t-o-m-i-c is the nickname I use in most of the digital art communities I frequent. It's a really stupid nickname that I just randomly picked on ICQ when I first got on the internet. I decided to use it when I made a quick account on deviantART, about 4 years ago. Since then I kept the account and a lot of people got to know me by it, so I'm kinda stuck. Sometimes I'll use devatomic or positronic if the site does not allow dashes.

Kepano is the other nickname I frequently use for other random stuff. Its just the hawaiian version of my real name, Stephane. Hawai'i is my favorite place on earth.

SnappyCrunch was a nickname I was given in high school by some friends when I was was eating a bag of cookies by with the tagline "The Cookies With The Snappy Crunch!" Nobody calls me snappycrunch IRL anymore, but I keep the name because it's wholly unique (I've never seen anyone else go by that nick before), is easy to spell and pronounce, and doesn't have any numbers in it.

Also, now that I have snappycrunch@hotmail, snappycrunch@yahoo, snappycrunch@gmail, as well as the aim name of snappycrunch and snappycrunch.com, it'd be really hard for someone else to cop my name

I used to be called Kasenex, which was one of those shoot-I-need-a-hotmail-adress moments. But back in the day, I had a knack for showing up on UT servers when one team was facing sudden loss, joining the losing team, and going for the win with my pro sniping-and-flag-pwning skillz. One day, one of those really intelligent gamers made an allusion to me being this team's deus ex machina:

From dictionary.com:
deus ex ma·chi·na
1. In Greek and Roman drama, a god lowered by stage machinery to resolve a plot or extricate the protagonist from a difficult situation.
2. An unexpected, artificial, or improbable character, device, or event introduced suddenly in a work of fiction or drama to resolve a situation or untangle a plot.
3. A person or event that provides a sudden and unexpected solution to a difficulty.

I changed it, and the name stuck because it was cool and intellectual. The only problem was when the game Deus Ex came out and almost every time I played a game, people would ask me if I had played it. That and that almost nobody can pronounce it correctly. At this point, I use it in every game I play, email, etc. except for AOL instant messenger... what a surprise.

Anybody remember the days of MPlayer and Heat.net - the only way to play games online was to use a service such as these?

Well... back in those days, I used the name "Call-me-Sid" as a tag when playing Return Fire 2 (Which managed to sell a whopping 7 copies worldwide!)

So, over the years I shortend it to just "Sid" - besides, I was getting sick of joining CS games as "Call_Me_Sid" and then everyone would type "Sid" - and I'd be all, "What?" and they would say, "You asked me to call you it.."

The first couple times it's cute... but after the 100465th time, I just changed it to Sid.

Hmm, let me think, several to come up with here...

Start with my until-recently offical name...

[CBL Staff] Patch (Adam)

CBL Staff, because of the working at a gaming center with recently closed, hence the sig
Patch, because of below
Adam, because that's my name, and it had to be added because the little kids didn't know who the staff really were.

Patch

This has been my nickname from High school, because of my Electronics coursework was handed in after it was dropped. Cover in gaffer tape and it STILL WORKED!!! Got it after one of the tutors said it looked really good patched up in tape, as a sarcastic remark, but it stuck. *shudders* I got my nickname from a tutor!

Lt Patch

Lt... always been a lieutenant, even in a CS clan, where it was shortened from Sniper Lieutenant... go figure
Patch- see above

Malibu , then [Dd] Malibu

This is a Halo one, which I got when the clan was formed over a round of triple AfterShocks, after which one of the members passed out directly because of them.
We had 4 of our shots, and then a triple AS. I had 4 Malibus, and the name stuck. We all ended up being named after our drinks, and the Dd bit comes from the iGames CTF premier league team, as we were all disciples to the divine lord of DRINK!!!!

Banana Phone

Go figure...

The first time I chose it I was playing another game, and I wanted a cool-ish name with a catchy thing to it.
I chose Toxicity first, but that sounded daft. I also tried Sugar (but that was taken) and Chop Suey, but that also sucked.
But Suite-Pee sounds like a name-ish,and a lotta ppl call it Sweet-Pee to p**s me off.

Well, I was playng Vice City day and night when I signed on for these forums, but the name I use everywhere else and in-game is TerranGrunt.

TerranGrunt came to be for 2 reasons:
In Halo my name was BabyGrunt because the grunts are soo cute!!! ^_^
Then, after reading way too much sci-fi, I decided the humans are the best race ever and made it TerranGrunt instead of Baby.

My first nick was "Pool" simply because my first name is Paul and I had absolutely no imagination at all. Go me.
However, after two years of complete Gamesnet madness, I eventually stumbled on another Pool.. Poor me couldn't get his nick back.

That's when I decided to come up with a new name, hurray! I wanted something original, beginning with T and ending with TH (randomness for the win ftw). And so I began adding random letters until it shaped good enough for me.

> Tresth <

Btw, why must people pronounce my nick TRESH ? Can't you people see the T in there? It's pronounced TREST not TRESH! Rawr.

Rowr I'm remembering now!

RaVe - Actually comes from a character I made up a VERY long time ago. I think it was role playing. Strangely enough I found it scribbled on an old piece of paper. I liked to bold the beginning and the end of names of characters a long time ago, and when I found it, I saw RaVe. The word was sort of funky at the time.

Doodie Man - Literally translated off my head : Spawncamped abused nubcaek.

Kronus - This goes waaaay back to Sonic. I was sort of thinking 'Wow it would be nice if I could run there in a short amount of time like Sonic' and uhh...my interest in old mythology got to me. Make it also notedthat I called my Hero Chaos Chao in Sonic Adventure 2 Kronus as well.

Haisho - This one was actually from Xenogears. The original was Haishao but I thought it looked dumb, so I got rid of the a near the end. The result is as you see. Haisho also means Haiku writer, or a place of exile.

I have quite a few online aliases....

Back when I first started seriously gaming, I could think of nothing at all.

So I became the fabled expert at Fighter Ace 1.5 - "Dogs_Go_Woof"

Skip ahead while, and I picked up HL1 - Same name for awhile, then when TF 1.5 rolled around, I loved playing my medic. Half the team got poisoned by another teams medic, so I ran around and cured every one of em'. One then typed "omgz you are my savior!"

Click. Rattle. Gears turn. I changed my name to "The Savior" and it stuck. It is now the name I use in all FPS based games, aside from Planetside.

In all Flight sim games, in honor of my first ever alias, I remain "Dogs_Go_Woof".

Now, in RPG's, the first one I ever played was Everquest, around 1999-ish. I went in, did Random Name Generation, saw a jumbled mess, and modified it a little and came up with my primary RPG name. "Kelverese" Prnc.*-Kel-vuh-reese-* Last name "Aysen" Prnc.*-A-sin.-* Later on, I needed new charachters. "Tildaras" Prnc.*-Til-der-us-* and "Kimoso" Prnc.*-Key-moe-so-*

Niether of those two have surnames. I actully have an extensive list of names I use, roughly 30 or so, but those are my primary online aliases.
