If it's NS it is impossible to be bad. Well worth the money. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I said no because I simply don't have any method of paying the $25 online unless NS2 were shipped to retailers or retailers like say Gamestop took pre-orders. I'm all for paying $50 retail when it comes out though.

If I was in your shoes, I would NOT ask the community for money for 2 main reasons:

    1. The contributers, although a pre-purchase, will feel they should have a direct voice in the development of the game. If you ignore them, they will surely turn on you. The constie program was a donation program, but this, like you said, is an investment.

    2. Other gaming companies (the makers of fable ring a bell) have tried to keep their communities informed/gave promises/etc and in many regards failed in some aspects, and where labeled for their short-comings. You would have to sit down and seriously build yourself a plan, a reasonable one, as to how you want to handle keeping the "investor" fans happy. Plus legalities etc etc... you wouldnt want some idiot kid complaining to his Lawyer dad who thinks he should get his kids money back.

However, I WOULD pre-purchase, because Im not an average asshat and I have faith where the development of this game would go.

no method for payment? Well there are many:

Those of you without a credit/debit card or checking can ask a parrent for a check, goto bank and get a temporary pre-set credit card number for a 1 time use thing (someone post the name of this system), mail the cash (risky) or ask a friend to do it and pay them back...

    I have to agree.
This is why it would be good to have a system like that discussed here:

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86678' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....showtopic=86678</a>

Thus, basing the predictions solely on the current community and constellation status, it'd be hard for UWE to go out of buisness.

I voted no. I dont really want to change ns. I love it soo much as it is now, I am scared that a revamp would change the game significantly, like ns2 sounds like it would, and we'd never get to play ns again....

But i'd probably get suckered in like I did with the constie <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> and buy it anyway.

However I would feel strongly for it if I knew that the game style would be very similar, and still have significant changes. <-- i.e. more info

Yes, but only with more concrete information. Like a publisher, an engine, etc. I don't think it would be fair to ask for a customer investment on a completely nebulous game concept with no immediate evidence of its reaching retail.

I am all for it, would definitely pre-purchase.

Wondering though, would there be an option that once we pre-purchase, could we add on an extra <i>x</i> amount of dollars for a hard copy, manual, etc? Kind of like Valve did with HL2? get different levels of stuff?

Flayra, I'd gladly pay 25$ to help design NS2 - or any other game UWE decides to make.

Hell, I'd pay 50$ now, and 75$ for the actual game.

I would but I would need more information.

A long interview about ideas and possible directions would be great.

I also think that if you where to pick an engine, it may help.

This is the first thing I have herd of NS2, I know there were anouncments of an NS2 like game but nothing that said it will be "This specific game".

We are all mini investors/publishers, and just like them we need some info. You also need to try and grow the current community as its a great way to build hype. i.e. release it on steam.

I will gladly donate $50 to the project at regular intervals because I would like for this to happen. Unfortunately, I agree with a previous poster about the backlogs with the site and delays with version upgrades. If a site that was to take 3 days takes over a month, when you say a game should take about 5 years to make, I will expect it when I am 30. (I am currently 17) While I have no qualms about donating, and I would rather use that term than investing personally, I know it will take much longer than posted/updated. My trust in the company wavers but my love for the game does not.

I'd look at it as a consumer vote for better video games and not a the lot of the unfinished games that seem to be so popular on the market now. I voted yes.
  • SentrySteveSentrySteve .txt Join Date: 2002-03-09 Member: 290Members, Constellation
I voted "no" because, although the first release of NS was impressive - in my opinon, it all went down from there and radical changes that were unneeded were done - making the game, in certain stages, less balanced and leaves it in it's current state where NS classic is just not fun to play. I also never understood why you didnt want to make NS Classic and Combat too different games - thereby allowing you to alter the health / armor points in one of the modes without effecting the other. If NS2 was just like NS1 I would not buy it for $50 becuase the game does not have the replay value that my $50 should warrant.

I'd pay $50 for a manual and box and a nifty NS CD and maybe even a T-shirt... hell for the T-Shirt, I'd pay $75! $100 for Onos Pants (onos head on front, onos butt on back) *snicker*

I'd be willing to take the risk, but I seriously doubt you will ever get enough funding this way. Pity, it would be neat to bypass publishers, and its something I've always wanted to do myself.

i believe the idea here isn't to take the place of the publishers etc... This bit of funding is to kickstart things, to get a good plan together thta will allow the team to call the shots on the project. If there is a complete vision, a direction in which to move, publishers will be more inclined to see it come to pass rather than make a game before one exists...

    1) Show your appreciation for an otherwise free game you've played a great deal.

    2) Pay less for a game that, if released, you'd definitely buy, and if it's not released...well don't think about that <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Wow you want me to pay money just because I played the HL mod version of the game. Why would you go around giving 25 bucks to everyone who you had some small appreciation for. Oh hey steve I agree with you, appreciate it and give me 25 bucks. I doubt I'd buy it if it did come out. I already asked why I would, I didn't ask why you would.

i donated to support the development of ns, however due to my personal life issues i dont know if i would spend money now on a game, as i have more important things to save up for.

however if i had the money to spend, sure, id do it!
