Misuse Of The Knife...

Well, each marine has his knife and it's ok if it's used to finish wounded skulks or lerks in close combat.
Wounded. It's normally not a good idea to try to kill even skulks with your knife only.
Quite normal scene on pubs: A skulk attacks a heavie. The heavie thinks "Hey a little skulk, he cant do anything to me, lets knife him!" Most of the time the skulk will be killed. But the heavie also will loose his armor! And if a fade comes around the next corner the heavie is most likely dead himself.

Another point is the use of the knife against fade and oni. There shouldn't be any use at all in my opinion, but I've seen many player emtpy their clip into a fade and then start knifing. That's completely pointless!
If you are on the field and couldn't kill the fade with lmg/pistol/whatever then you won't kill him with your knife! (in 99,999999%)
Reload your weapon instead - if you weren't killed while reloading chances you kill the fade are much better.

I totally agree, but when fighting lower-level lifeforms (Gorges, Skulks, and Lerks), I find that when I empty my primary weapon clip, I switch to my knife first. If they start to run, I whip out my pistol and bust a cap in their arse

The advantage of knifing is that if you crouch and knife upwards, the fade or onos will be knocked back a few meters, thus having the potential of preventing him from escaping, which is useful if there is someone else with you to shoot him down.

Apparently knife knockback will be gone in beta 6, meaning you won't be able to do this. But it will be a bit easier to knife down skulks, because they won't be knocked back away from you, and you'll be able to hit them with several knife slashes in quick succession.

Who says you shouldn't resort to knifes when your attacking a fade. Even on a full health fade. I've done it before and won, granted I emptied my smg and pistol first though =]

"Knife? THERES A FRICKIN KNIFE IN THIS GAME! OMG I HAD NO IDEA! EVEN THOUGH I'VE HAD NS FOR OVER 2 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!" Is my opion on the knife, seldom used seldom actually even pulled out. I'd rather reload my hmg than use the knife.

it was a joke for **** sake, calm down and dont hurt yourself.

i knife when my lmg and pistol are dead or i am on my own in a crowded area against a structer with chances of being rushed by many (unles my comm tells me to shoot the structure)
    HAPPY?!

some dmg > 0 dmg.. no matter what. most time u wont live long enough against an onos/fade to reload but the dmg u do inflict from a knife might be the decider.

Hey, I need to continue collecting screenshots of knifekills of lerks, fades, and onii (only one of those so far )
But yeah, when I'm onosing, it's the most annoying thing to get knocked around by a bunch of marines with knives out, while two more shoot me with hmgs....stupid stupid stupid

    yeh.. knife can be powerfull.

last on the xs4all classic server I saw a egg.
shot my LMG in it, my pistol, and since reloading takes time, and I had no clue how long it egged I took me knife out.

A onos hopped out, but was hurt enought to die by my knife.
    That person left the server.

Now if I had bothered to reload I would not have made it.

If you get yoru LMG clip and pistol clip into a fade, chances are you can now knife it with in 1-4 hits. its realy worth a shot.

    knifing fades/onos can be good

if you empty your lmg + pistol at a fade he will have almost no armor, or no armor left. now reloading your lmg takes a few secs. pulling out your knife takes no time. if a fade sees you with a knife out he thinks i just got another kill and will not blink away, he will try and kill you. during these 1 or 2 secs before you die, when your knife is countering the regen other marines could be getting close enough to finish off the fade, or could be moving into the place where the fade is next going to blink to. a fade with no armor is probably going to head towards a gorge or some dcs for faster healing. if there is another marine between these 2 places. there is a pretty good chance he will kill the fade.

Decent fades will run if they have low health.
May work on pubs though, but I havn't seen a fade-knifekill for ages now, and I really play alot.

in b5 if you crouch and hit their legs you can get some serious knockback, even start juggling the onos thats why.

This isnt true. Every weapon and ammo clip you carry will slow you down however, so if you drop your pistol and lmg you will speed up significantly. Just drawing your knife while still having your other guns equiped wont help though.

Well, the major problem with even trying to knife is that people underestimate their enemy's range. From what I've tried (not very often, mind you, so it has a pretty good chance of being mistaken), knifing a skulk front-on, even is suicide. Their bitegun range is longer than your knife's. So really, beyond structures there's not much point to knifing, as any lifeform that survived your lmg/pistol probably has enough sense to hit you from a direction other than the side. Well, unless you're the amazing circle-strafe, hit the fade in the back while it swipes where you just were, master that is.

Nice to see familiar guys here!

Yup knife is terrbile weapon due the knockback and skulks are often hindered to be picked by one swipe (if not wise/tempting faith[me pubs ] )

But you have chances of maybe 5% to kill that onos/fade with knife so you could just reload....

I hate that when I'm a fade or onos against one marine and he just keeps knifing me... I mean, I'll still kill him, but it takes a bit longer and it's irritating being thrown around by a minuscule knife. But yeah, it's good that they're taking the knockback out. It might even be better for marines in some cases.
