I want $1,200 Senhauser headphones. :o

I figured out that if you want LONG laser beams, you have to set the speed really low, and if you want fast bullets, too high a speed will make certain lengths incompatable. If you set the speed to extremely low, the tracers wont go away. Setting tracerspeed to 1 or 5 makes them crawl like snails.

I have Sennheiser HD-202. $30, much better than the Sony 150/250's that I "permanently borrowed" from someone.

So you enjoy the rumbling of a subwoofer yet keep the sound enclosed in dinky headphones, that makes sense. I prefer being able to convince the building that world war three is being fought outside.

Same rennex, my neighbors know there's a war going on when I play. Lord knows what they think after hearing HL2 the past 15 hours.

Location detection through sound with headphones > Location detection through sound with speakers.

Besides, I'm on a 'quiet' floor of the dorms - you aren't allowed to use speakers after 10 PM, when I play most. It's a 100-300$ fine if you get reported for sound violation (Ouch) - I'd rather keep my money. ^_^

just to add, changing these tracer settings also applies the same settings to the lines that you see moving into the center of a phase gate whenever someone phases in/out.
I remember someone saying something about tracers only being rendered after a phase has been built, but im not sure about that one...

Yeah, Syndicate was great. The Atlantis mission was insane, though. I got it done eventually, but I had to self-destruct one of my agents because an enemy agent was hiding inside a building and wouldn't come out. Whenever I tried to open the door, he just shot my agents back and the door closed. Ah, good times.

My soundcard is too new now, though. I can hear music, but the sounds are gone. *Sniff*

should i use these

tracerred "1"
r_shadows "1"
tracergreen "1"
tracerblue "0"
traceralpha "150"
tracerlength "4"
traceroffset "-90"
tracerspeed "3000"
gl_max_size "512"

tracers on my marine game?

also, waht does gl_Max_size do?

gl_max_size actually has nothing to do with tracers - it is a tweak that allows higher resolution textures on models such as weapons. I accidentally put that in since it was on the next line of my userconfig.cfg file. It can make weapons etc. look much better, but should only be used if you have 128Mb or more of VRAM or it might cause serious framerate loss IIRC.

I'll get a shot of that tracer setting in a few minutes when I finish installing UT2K4.

[EDIT] Replaced with a better shot:
• c4tc4t Join Date: 2003-09-06 Member: 20619Members
yeah i tried it at first and im like, i notice nothing. then i read that you have to have atleast weapons 1... and the frequency of tracers go up.

so yeah i have that in my alien config now, we will see how it goes.

does gl_max_size pose any advantage during gameplay at this value?

and waht does r_shadows do?

No it just looks better if the model maker is using a 512x512 texture, instead of a default texture size of 256x256. The details on the skin will look sharper and more defined.

On the top, 256x256. On the bottom, 512x512:

uh sure..... add it to the 'userconfig.cfg' aye..

well it would be so easy but,
that config appears to be Non-Existant
can somebody give me a Directory Tree of NS,
and the location of the file..........

or are you refering to the autoexec.cfg...

You need to create one, or you can just extract this to your NS file. It's blank, so you'll need to put whatever configs you want in it.

Just go into your Steam folder-->SteamApps-->folder named after the Email you gave steam-->Half-life-->ns.

That is the default installation of Steam I guess.

there you will find a file named config.cfg
Copy that file and rename the copym to userconfig.cfg and here you go.
now you can edit your userconfig.
The last line in the config.cfg is exec userconfig.cfg.
That will automatically load your userconfig as soon as you start NS.

If you erase this file, you can also manually load it on the console.
You can make different configs for aliens and marines and load them when playing.
Toy around a bit. have fun.
