<div class="IPBDescription">Gamespot's behind the scenes article</div> <a href='http://www.gamespot.com/features/6112889/' target='_blank'>http://www.gamespot.com/features/6112889/</a>

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Now, for the first time, the team at Valve opens up about its journey in stunning detail. No question was off limits: From the missed release date to the code theft to the lawsuit with Vivendi, you'll hear directly from Valve about what really happened. And you'll find out about other struggles that have never before been revealed to the public. Ultimately, this is a story about sacrifice. A story about how 84 passionate gamers gave up nearly everything over five years to create what Newell believes is the best first-person shooter ever created.

This is the story behind the making of Half-Life 2. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Interesting read, they talk to Valve about the sept 30th fiasco.

    Well that was a long read, but very informative. It's always nice to know what goes on behind the scenes. And unfortunately no one ever releases 'making of' dvds for games.

    It was interesting. I didn't realise how much of a crunch it was for them, as well as the Sept 30th release date fiasco.

    I wonder what happened to the german guy after he was arrested.

    Great read, had a few good laughs. Gabe should have so used the golden crowbar on that scanner though.

    Very touching. Really adds a human side to the whole fiasco that most people probably hadn't considered.

    Most people had, but some people(yeah, most of the people on these forums) just didn't want to get flamed because they still had faith.

    I find the nabbing of the hacker to be anti-climatic, and just plain silly. I mean, GOD, how stupid can a hacker be? I had really wished it was the dedicated fans that nabbed the hacker. Oh well, it was very illuminating tale.
  • UKchaosUKchaos Join Date: 2002-08-10 Member: 1132Members
    Actually it was the fans that helped tract the source of the leak and so helped make a stronger case against the hacker(s).

    Definitely worth a read.

    For those who don't like to read anything longer than a page

    "Newell is already thinking about where Valve goes next. One thing is for sure: The company won't embark on another five-year project anytime soon. "We need to do smaller and shorter projects at first to avoid burnout," he says. On that note, one cabal has already started work on what Newell refers to as the "ATI levels," a series of single-player levels that will require a super-high-end graphics card to run. Valve hopes to release those over Steam later this year. Newell is hoping that the other cabals will move on to creating episodic single-player content that will be released in chunks over Steam. One tentative plan calls for Valve to start developing an episodic game that lets players assume the role of Alyx Vance. "I'd love to play a game that tells the story of Alyx and Doc, her pet Robot," Newell says. "

    Hadn't really heard about this stuff, interesting <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
